What color should I dye my hair based on my skin tone and eye color ?

betterinti

I have fair/light neutral skin tone I have pink and yellow/ olive tones to me and my eye color is hazel light brown and green. My natural hair color is what I have now it's a medium ash brown and my eye brows are the same color so they're pretty dark I want to do something for it before the summer thank you any ideas ? :)

Answer
Well there's only so many choices for hair color and you pretty much have a nice color. Why dont you just get it lighyened? The medium ash brown would lighten to a nice level in a 3rd of the time it would take someone with black or espresso hair. Because you have those ash tones it should really pop, plus less damage because you already have medium.hair. Just amp up what you already have. Throw some BW hair lightener on it (professionally of course) mix it with a 20 or 30 developer and let it sit for under 5 mins and youll look kissed by the sun, also summer is coming up so.... That should be hot

My teen wants some blue highlights in her natural black hair & I'm afraid to do the lift myself - would rather pay a bit more & have it done by a professional. But, most of the salons in our area are geared towards the soccer mom set. How can I find a more punk/teen oriented salon?

Answer
There are several who do what you are looking for but the one that focuses strictly on punk/rock styles is Milio's on Belmont. Check out http://www.milioshairsalon.com for pics and more info.

I need hair advice? I am not girly and my hair is usually in a pony tail help!?

foq23

I have thick, dark brown hair that has no volume, it usually lays completely flat. My friend is at one of the top beauty schools in the Seattle area and wants to do my hair. Without coloring I am considering a body wave perm, or just a simple hair cut. I am not a fan of bobs on me. FYI. Thanks.

Answer
from experience do not get a perm
i usually keep my hair in a ponytail too so we prob have the same taste
its wayyy to hard to manage and just ends up looking messy
im not too girly either so i went with side bangs
they're not too hard to manage but still end up looking cute when you dont feel like doing anything with them
maybe some simple low layers
not a fan of bobs either, thick dark brown hair too--same taste, hope it helps :)

I have really dark brown hair (level 3 for those that are colorists/stylists) so it's almost black. I want to change the color to a medium caramel brown color, (sort of like J.Lo's hair color without her blonde highlights.) What kind of store-bought hair color can I buy to make this happen? I really don't have a ton of money to spend at a salon, and I'm not looking for a major change, just something to brighten up my dark hair and make it a warm caramel color. Thanks! :)

Answer
I don't think so... I have dark brown hair too and I've tried all types of hair dye, even the lighter shades make my hair a reddish, auburn color... you have to bleach your hair first if you want your hair to be that color.

What hair color shade should i buy to get a light brown with no red tones!?

adribaby12

So, I wanna go for a light brown hair color, but every hair color shade i've tried has reddish or orange tones that i don't like. What hair color dye can i buy to get a light brown with noo red or orange tones, i want just a light pretty brown. Please help, thanks!

try clairol. i always recommend this brand for hair dyes because of the chart they have that makes it so darn easy to find the right color

What is the best hair color brand to cover grey hair?

pam e

I just turned 47 this year and cannot seem to find a brand of hair color that covers grey. I have dark brown hair and I was really happy with Natural Instincts. But it does not seem to cover the grey. The last brand I used was ION from Sally's. I am also concerned with the amount of damage certain brands cause. Any ideas out there?

Answer
If you are concerned with protecting your hair while getting the best grey protection, you can use an ammonia free hair color line. Herbatint is a great Italian hair color a little pricey but personally I think its much better than the grocery brands. http://www.thebeautycenter.com/brand/herbatint

Is there a hair color that does not color the gray hairs?

I love my gray hair (about 25%) but would like to add auburn tones to my natural color. I don't want to lighten or darken, just add a little bit of red.

Is there a hair color that would just add a little color to my "regular" hair and leave my gray hair as is?

Answer
Use gray dye for all the hair, it will do the job.

I have wondered if all the people who are loud and obnoxious were neglected as children. They seem to shouting. "Look at me. Listen to me. I feel invisible!" Some enjoy the power of making others miserable by infringing on their personal space. Other people are just plain ignorant when it comes to social graces. They may have lived in a culture that did not value consideration of others. I traveled in Japan and was very pleased to ride quietly on the trains with little to no conversation, no cell phone usage of any kind, and no other form of rude behavior.

I'm going to dye my hair with Wella permanent hair color. idk how much creme developer i should use?

AnnaKrisha

I have black hair but I already colored my hair with Revlon Red 150 and it turned out to be brown not red. I am planning to use one bottle of the Wella hair color but i don't how much developer i need to use and idk if i have to use a bowl and a brush or if i can use a bottle to apply it to my hair. Thank you.

On the other hand, I attached Wella color chart, Koleston particularly, I wanted the color: 7/44 or 6/45 or 7/45

Will you recommend me to used a developer creme to achieve my desired color because I know if I only use Wella Koleston alone, I will not achieve the color indicated on the color chart.

I hope somebody and answer this for me. Thank you!

Answer
if you have dark hair and want to achieve that colour, you would have to bleach your hair first. if not the colour will not show up and just end up brown again.
anyway, the bottle of the hair dye should mention how much developer to use

I recently began getting my hair colored at a salon, instead of home coloring, and when I get my hair cut along with the color it's $x.xx but when I asked for no hair cut, it came out to almost the same price because she charged me for shampooing and blow drying my hair after coloring it. It doesn't make sense to me because you are coloring my hair...you have to shampoo it out, as part of the color, and you have to blow it dry, for me to see the color.

Answer
YES, they also charge extra for trimming your bangs.
It is part of a trillion dollar business. My son took less than 5 mins. to chop off 12" off my hair, the salon usually takes almost 2 hours for the full monty! Then, I have to go back again, because they're NOT EVEN. Takes me 25 mins. for the wash, blow, style.

Why do people think that hair color from sally beauty supply is professional when it is open to the public?

beautygeni

Sally beauty supply is not a professional hair color store. Salons don't buy their color from sally's (BECAUSE ITS UNPROFESSIONAL DUH!) why do people keep ruining their hair with this crap?

Answer
1. Haha, a LOT of salons buy their color at Sally. Have you ever noticed that Sally sells developers in gallon sizes, or bleach powder in 2-pound tubs? They're not really for the average retail customer who needs to touch up their roots once every six weeks. Have you ever noticed that Sally has shopping carts? They're not really for the walk-in customer buying a lipstick and a bottle of shampoo.

Younger stylists typically like the brands found at pro-only stores because that's what they've learned with, and that's the kind of hair they do. But stylists 40 and up usually really like to stick with what they've been using since they began, and that's going to most likely going to be Clairol, Loreal, and Wella. Which Sally just happens to carry. Some of them don't even have instructions on their packaging, because they ARE meant to be sold to professionals. They just have no buyer restrictions placed on them [like, for example, Quantum perms, which are pro-only at Sally], so anyone can buy them, even if they're not the intended customer.

My store's four highest spending customers buy about 300 bottles a month each of these brands. And it's not just the brands that have been around forever. We even have a couple professionals that use our brand, Ion, on their clients. Thus, I think it's fair to say that we can consider these brands "professional". :)

2. Give someone a tube of color from a pro-only store, and they could ruin their hair with that, too. People "keep ruining their hair with this crap" because they don't know what they're doing. They dyed their hair with a box once and think they've got it all figured out. Or they have a friend who has like 75 hours of beauty school and thinks *they've* got it all figured out. Or they are relying on Sally employees to teach them how to color their hair, step by step, when it is NOT our job to do so, and we are not formally trained to do so. Stores in my area each have about 7 employees, and usually only one or two of them are cosmetologists. If something is way out of our scope of knowledge, or if they're trying to do something complicated, or if their hair can't take much more abuse, we always suggest they get it done or fixed professionally... but only maybe one in five people take that advise.

People CAN do their own hair, and it doesn't always result in "damage and embarrassment". Just as many people can do beautiful things to themselves as people who screw it all up. Even highlights and bleaching. I guarantee this. I saw it every day for four years. You just don't see it because people come to salons needing help, not to show off the beautiful new color they did without any help from a pro.

Looking at answers you've given on other questions, I'm not really sure why you have so much hostility towards Sally [my guess is you're a disgruntled former employee or customer, heh]. If someone has messed up their hair using something bought at Sally, it is most likely user error. No reason to hate on my store.

Pretty self-explanatory. I recently posted pics of myself on here and everyone said to lose the hair gel, but I can't think of anything to do without using any hair gel. Otherwise it's just going to lay there. Long hair doesn't work for me, it grows a little in length and then just goes out and thick.

My sons both have thick hair. They stopped putting gel on their hair.
Too much work!

They just cut it themselves. They each live in different states, so they have their own clippers.

Been doing that since they're in HS. They're always trendy.

Front bangs or a longish sideswept fringe would look great. if you get an eyebrow sweeping fringe it draws attention to your eyes and make them stand out. for colours, i guess it would depend on your eye colour. if your eyes are dark brown, for instance, then dye your hair jet black, it'll make them "pop". with the bangs and your eyecolour, it would look absolutely amazing and trendy! :)

I've never been much of a trend follower, but lately I'm realizing that my style that I've had for years is becoming trendy (I was definitely wearing Toms and tribal prints before it was "cool"!) I'm interested to hear how my personal fashion sense compares to the mainstream one, so what are the big trends for this year? I'd also love to hear your predictions for what the fall trends will be! clothing: I would say bright colors like from the 80's. You can get stuff like it at 344. Also baggy crop tops with tank tops underneath. I think you can get some from places like wet seal

shoes: A lot of people are wearing gladiator sandals

Hi I've been getting relaxers for ten years now and am wondering if it's ok to use a semi-permanent hair color of Red a couple days after getting a relaxer?
The dye washes out after about five rinses...will it be ok? And can anyone refer to some safe for African American hair?

Answer
Yes but has to be semi because no ammonia afterwards sleep on pillowcases you dont care about will rub off some .if you have black hair it will add a tone in sun wont be a big change. Clairol makes a demi permanent color (same like semi) use it with the developet made for the demi line. Mixed 1oz color to 1oz developer . Ensletbeautysupply.com

I have thick, curly hair. The curls are loose, but there's a lot of them. I straighten it usually, but sometimes I like to wear it culy. Whenever I do my hair, it involves getting it wet in the morning, and I hate to go out in the cold with wet hair. Does anyone know a way to style curly hair to keep it under control and defined all day?

Answer
You'll be wanting a diffuser and blowdryer. I much prefer to air dry my hair, but it is easier to blow dry it when it's cold outside. brrrr ~:(

Anyways there are two main types of diffusers. One is the bowl diffuser which is great for scrunching the hair, and then there's the hot sock, which is less clunky and good for travel. It also fits on any blowdryer. There's more explanation here:
http://www.wikihow.com/Follow-the-Curly-Girl-Method-for-Curly-Hair

In addition your could try plopping overnight--putting your hair up in a turban. See the above article for info on that as well.

Help Please? How to style Curly hair and reduce as much frizz as possible?

I have naturally curly hair that is about the length to my shoulders. What I do is take a shower with Tresemme Keratin Shampoo and Conditioner. Then I don't rub my hair with a towel because I hear that it causes frizz. Then I put Mousse from Vidal Sasoon. Then I put some sea salt spray in that I made. Then after that I put a tiny drop of conditioner to give it some moisture. I think my hair is still a little too frizzy. Any tips or tricks too reduce as much frizz as possible and best way to style curly hair?

Answer
My hair is super curly, thick and frizzy and I mostly use argan oil products on it. Mainly pro naturals Moroccan argan oil products, and maybe some almond oil. I use a few drops of argan oil on my hair after showering and that helps de-frizz and smooth my hair a lot!

Answer
U can't cover brown hair with a semi or demi blonde dye. Those dyes are deposit only so they cannot cover anything that is darker than the color u are applying. The only way to get the color u want is to pull the pigment out of your hair.

Other than blond, what kind of highlights would look good on dark brown hair? I really like the way purple looks on black hair, but my hair isn't black. Would it still look good?

Answer
Depends on the rest of your coloring. Look at the Color Me Beautiful website & see what your total clothing look should be or think of the color of clothes that you already wear.

For me, I need autumn colors, & naturally have yellow-gold highlights in my hair, especially when I'm in the sun a lot. For you, it might be cool colors, called Summer or Winter, based on your skin tone. (If you have brown eyes, it's definitely not summer.) It could be ash, or it could be purple. If that's your real name & you're Japanese, you probably have the coloring that fits the Winter category.

Who knows? It would take an expert who sees you in person to know for sure, but I think they have an on-line quiz that you could try. It helps when choosing make-up & everything. It helps me find clothing faster, whether it's new ones in dept. stores or big box stores or if it's used stuff in a thrift shop.

Have fun. Purple highlights sound fun regardless. Why not just try it this summer? As long as it's not roots, it should grow out or gradually wash out pretty quickly if you don't like it. Or you could always put a brown rinse over it.

Just don't go for anything with bleach, such as an extreme blond. A few strands of highlights like that, as long as it's not ash blond, might blend in with my brown & gold hair, but that's probably not a good look for dark brown hair. That's just a guess based on what you said.

How to choose a good short haircut for a girl?

newrose

I want to try something short, I'm a 14 year old girl... can't part too far to the side otherwise it looks bad, I have fine/thinish hair. It's mostly straight but has a slight wave to it, when I pull it into a ponytail some of the shorter pieces get all curly/frizzy but it looks bad if I gel it because it then shows my (semi-large) forehead too much. My hair is slightly layered but to my shoulders right now. I want something different. Any really good quizes to help find what's good or your own advice? THANKS!
lots of women/girls have short to shorter hair.. i'm looking for something that's jaw-length or shorter maybe? i could do part long part short too... i'm trying to mix ideas of a bunch of rockstar people (davey from AFI and jon from Kill Hannah) to get a look i want, i just dont know if it would work on ME.

Answer
This reminds me of this show where this girl had a huge forehead (which half of the time was normal sized) in an anime called Naruto (kinda fun to watch). She used to have long hair but she hacked it off while she was fighting...

Anyway, this has a lesson. I think it said that her forehead looked bigger when she tried to hide it...but it's a cartoon. Nevermind.

Hairstyles can affect a persons look, making their face look narrower, or their ears look bigger...etc. Your hair color might also affect it...

Search hairstyles to find out what compliments, or what doesn't.

BQ: Would you consider most of the women in your area to be "feminine"?
Metalhead, that is a terrible hairstyle. I can see why you hate it, lol. =^-*=

Answer
In this town, everyone wants to be unique, to set their own style, so you can see literally anything; though, they mostly follow the trends set by the fashion industry; lately, I've noticed they like putting hair on one site and doing all sorts of things to it I don't know the name of. Examples in the pics, just with the black/brown(ish) hair.

Make up...depends on the occasion. I think most of them are good at it and don't go overboard...just right.

How can you get a bob hairstyle above your chin for long hair and for the ends to frame your face slightly?

kylie n

http://www.women-hairstyles.com/images/asain-hair.jpg I want to do my hair like that and it always comes out looking like that after I go to the hairsalon. But, when I do it at home my hair just stays flat and doesn't really go in around my chin to give it a bob look.

Answer
If you are wanting a style like the picture, that is not a bob. If you have your hair cut into a bob but having trouble styling it in a bob try this; After you shampoo your hair while it is still damp apply a small amount of mousse to your hair paying close attention to the ends. Blow dry your hair when it is about 75-80% dry start using a round brush. Concentrate the hot air on the top of your hair, so that it smooths as you dry/curl your hair, as you slowly dry down the hair shaft. Follow up with a large barrel curling iron. Spray with a light hair spray to hold it in place. It's pretty hard to describe. Because you like your hair when you leave the salon ask the stylist for detailed instructions as they style your hair. They can give you the best advice for hair products as well.
Good Luck

I have no trouble finding photos of guys with greased up and slicked back hair but I was wondering if there are any old styles for curly hair. I have curly hair, not tight curls but past 1'' it begins the curl, I'm looking for classic hairstyle, something simple with that old-timey feel. Photos would be great or a link or description. Thank you!

How can I help my hair grow longer, faster, and beautiful?

Tay Leslie

I need help guys! Anything that can help me, please say it. I cut my hair like last year in June like a bob, and it has grown like 3 inches or 4. :| I want my hair really long, like waist length. How long would that take? Oh and i want some hairstyle ideas for when my hair is that long or cute haircut styles. :) thanks! (I'm assuming it'll take 1-2 years for it to grow :( )

Answer
Shampoos are meant for cleaning hair, eating is for growing and you can't speed up time, nor can you speed 'perfection.' "If you have no patience, you have no right growing long hair." ~ Hair expert of the 80's.

Save your money instead of buying hair growth products or supplements. Vogue Dec. 2010, Vogue Feb. 2011 issue has a section on biotin, supplements, fish oil, etc. . Fish oil for example: Read the labels if they state that it contains: "one or more of the following: Cod, English Whiting, Shark."

The FDA don't even approve of them. Because of inadequate quality control and inspection, supplements contaminated with heavy metals, pesticides, or prescription drugs have been sold to unsuspecting consumers. And FDA rules covering manufacturing quality donât apply to the companies that supply herbs, vitamins, and other raw ingredients.
Beginning in February 2008, they experienced one symptom after another: diarrhea, joint pain, hair loss, lung problems, and fingernails and toenails that fell off. FDA has received numerous reports of harm associated with the use of these products, including stroke, liver injury, kidney failure, heart palpitations, and death. 3-15-11

Google: MSN "Vitamins Can Do More Harm Than Good."
According Dr. Melissa Piliang, a dermatologist at the Cleveland Clinic. Americans spent an estimated $176 million on hair loss products last year, and chances are some of that money was not well spent. Donât let charming salon owners, seductive ads or fancy gimmicks convince you otherwise.

CNN, Slate, Consumer Reports, MSN, YAHOO have posted them online for years how people spend $20 billion per year on vitamins and supplements.  According to Everyday Health, here's an article that will tell you why . . . those PRODUCTS by any other name do NOT WORK.  It is false advertisements. Google: Are Supplements Good For You? About 7,430,000 results (0.15 seconds). THEN Google: Are vitamins & supplements good for you? About 4,250,000 results (0.14 seconds) Some can actually shorten your life!
Google: Hair growth caused other men nationwide in class-action lawsuits. About 1,640,000 results (0.10 second.

Best advice from Hollywood's well known hairstylist in the 80's once said: "Keep foods in your mouth and hair products on your hair."

If you've straightened your hair in the past, it may grow slowly or none at all.
Google: "Foods for Healthy Hair" - the website had moved, type it in.
Your hair may be the fastest-growing tissue in the body but, unlike the skin, it cannot repair itself. That is why getting the right balance of vitamins and proteins is imperative. Don't expect to look like you've stepped out of a hair commercial the day after you've changed your diet. It is likely to take at least three months before you actually see tangible results.
Growing healthy hair doesn't come from a bottle or pills and hair products do not speed hair growth. Any hair oil, is another form to keep hair moisturized, nothing more. If you're in HS, your hair & nails should be growing normally, and as healthily as possible, since you're eating healthy foods. But when hair isn't growing as fast, it's because they've been tempered with: chemicals, hair straightening, etc. . .

Cutting your split ends yourself, spend 5-10 mins. on a sunny day so you can easily spot them, using a 2" scissors, cut strand by strand, section by section, allowing new growth to take over. Then 2x a year, get a good hair cut. This won't speed things up, but it will make the hair look healthier while it's growing. Even healthy hair like mine get them, due to normal brushing & styling.

Best answer comes from people with Avatars, showing their healthy shiny, soft, silky, smooth hair.

Sources:
I know hair. I have over 4 decades of hair know-how. I have silky, shiny, soft, smooth very healthy hair down to my knees, started growing them in 2003. Previously damaged by perming & dyeing in the 80's & 90's. I've known people in their 30's whose hair stopped growing from ironing their hair in the 70's. When I was in HS, my hair grew from bob to waist length in 3 1/2 to 4 years, and cut 2x a year.
