What kind of haircut would fit a person with round face but have thin hair?

Jets

and what kind of haircut/hairstyle to make thin hair have more volume?

Answer
A round face is wide with a round hairline and round chin line. With this shape, it is best to create the illusion of length. You will want some height on the top, close at the sides and bangs brushed to the side.

What is an easy hairstyle for long thin hair?

Stephii

I have very thin hair that comes to the middle of my back. I will not cut it.
What is a simple hairstyle made for my hair type?
Most styles I see don't look right since my hair is so flat

Answer
AVOID using heat & chemicals = hair's worst enemies.

HOW TO STYLE LONG HAIR:
Dress up an easy down day with a bow.
Try the trendy wrap-around braid with bangs.
Make your hair and accessory with a huge topknot.
Scrunch with a texturizing spray for a beach-y look.
Soften up a work blazer with a sweet side part.
Use a round brush for a full-of-body blowout.
Rough up a side pony with a rugged safari hat.
Try a classic French braid, coil to the side.
Embrace fluffy curls - the bigger, the better!
Do Duchess Catherine brown (the new blond).
Disguise grow-out bangs with a single braid.
If you dare: shaved sides are having a moment.
Do a Farrah-style flip, any face shape.
Whip up a Rapunzelesque rope braid.
Days-old hair? Do a double deck pony.
Rock an easy side braid for a weekend look. Add Wafarer-style specs and a red0hot lip. Fierce!
THINK BIG: The new blowout is all about big, bouncy volume. Start blow-drying hair with a large barrel brush, set in loose pin curls for 10 minutes, then shake out until ends are wavy.
CREATE A HALO: Braiding hair horizontally on either side of a deep side part creates a whimsical, hippie-like effect. I call it the Hunger Games style. Other magazines called it the 'goddess' look. I've seen them last week during Dancing with the Stars. Dayana Mendoza the Miss Universe, recently on the Apprentice had that same hairstyle, & recently Florence Welch wore her hair during the Met Gala. Google her. Took about 10 mins. to do, use bobby pins to secure the braids to your head. Other magazines called it, the Goddess look. Victoria Newman on the Young & the Restless did a similar a week ago! Kelly Osborne wore it during Fashion Police 10-8-12.
I'm sure NO ONE in you school have done that! Today, first day of spring, I added some funky flower hair clips, looking like Flower Power!

Google: Peopleâs Choice Awards Hair: Helmet Braids Dominate 1-10-13

Soft updos and silk scarves at Dolce & Gabbana. The summery hair at Dolce was anchored by beautiful printed scarves that hairstylist Guido Paulo wrapped around textured, pulled-apart updos. He started by rough-drying the models' hair with mousse before pinning it into an updo that was "not really a twist, not really a knot, just exactly how a Sicilian woman would pin her hair up," he said. To keep the headband from looking severe, Paulo left a few centimeters of the hairline exposed, covered the very tops of the ears with the scarf, and tied it on the side.
HOW I STYLED MY HAIR IN HS with past the shoulder length to long hair?
My hair cut was below my boobs, until I grad. from HS it went down to my waist. I have various styles for my hair, didn't have bangs then.

1. I parted them in the middle, had two baby pony tails right where the top of my ears, and they fall to the front, while the rest of my hair hang loose on the back. I also curled the ends under, using plastic curlers (when I go to sleep).

2. Other times, I braided my hair after they're washed, so they're curly for days! I have about 6 sections that was braided so the curls are tighter. In the morning, when I take the braids out, finger comb so they don't get frizzy.

3. Do the Pocahantas bun. Divide your hair vertically in 2. Coil the top section, using bobby pins. Let the other bottom half loose.

4. Add hairsticks to your bun, instead.

5. Coil the top, coil the bottom section.

6. Braid the top coil, bun it. Let the rest fall out.

7. Add hair sticks to the braided bun.

I can do 7 different styles per week (even now). The idea is to experiment, practice the night before, so you can easily do them by morning. Takes me 2-10 mins. to style my knee length hair. I've posted 98 on Facebook.

Hey all. Well I'm getting tired of not always getting the haircut I want, and it's mainly because I've been going to places like Supercuts where they basically cut your hair the way they want to. I've decided to go with a friend to his barbershop to get this same exact hairstyle. I have the same color and my oval face shape could make it look good without a problem. Here's some pictures on how I want it:

Answer
None of those haircuts were cut by a barber. They are stylist's renditions of a short regular hair cut or a long ivy league. Expertly tapered and well blended classic versions of these styles cut by a good barber more fully suit most guys. The haircuts below are how these styles appear when cut by a barber. Show the barber a photo of the style of haircut you want.

short crew cut:
http://www.gstatic.com/hostedimg/dfbf10e504bce8a1_large
Some barbers consider that all crew cuts should have a flat top, so it is best to not rely on words alone for even a widely recognized style like a crew cut.

Search the internet for images of football(soccer)star Lukas Podolski for examples of ivy league and crew cut styles. A minute dab of control wax aka butch wax will keep the hair looking well groomed at crew cut and ivy league length. A butch comb also helps with grooming the short pomp styles- the small, flat, plastic, oval, pocket brushes that one finger fits through and barbers sell for about a dollar. A boar bristle military brush is usually available for a few dollars and while too large for a guy to carry in his pocket, is nice to have at home.

I am a natural redhead. Looking for advice on dying back to natural?

Ruby Red

I am a natural redhead. My natural color is a lot like Connie Britton on Nashville. But with age comes white hair. Does anyone out there know which hair dye would be the right one for me, to get my hair color back to my natural color. I have tried a few out there, Auburn is way too dark, and usually has a pink or burgandy tone to it. Which I hate. Please help me.

Answer
Hi :)

If your hair is the same colour as Connie Britton, Then you are Strawberry Blonde :) So if your picking a colour to dye it as close as you can to yours, then go for a Strawberry Blonde coloured dye :D

I want to go pixie cut short in the back with a lot of layering in the front and I was wondering do I have to use shears to cut my hair or can I go straight with a razor. If so what recommended guard should I use? How exactly do I layer the top? Photos will be used to show what exactly I'm looking for but not exactly that kind of combination lol.

I have African American hair, my last relaxer was about 4-5 months ago and my curl pattern is wavy and curly and at the roots it's kind of kinky.

Can I put semi permanent blonde on my dyed brown hair? My natural colour is a dirty hair color and I haven't dyed it in 3-4 months so my roots are pretty bad... Can I do it with out and green or orange mixed in?
-Ross<3

Answer
U can't cover brown hair with a semi or demi blonde dye. Those dyes are deposit only so they cannot cover anything that is darker than the color u are applying. The only way to get the color u want is to pull the pigment out of your hair.

What to expect people to do or say after dyed hair color?

Shelbs

My hair color is black right now but I'm planning on dying it a different color. Don't try to convinceme not to do it because I'm not changing my mind. I was just wondering what I would expect people to say or do when they see me with a un natural hair color. I am I'm high school. I'm 17 and I'm scene. I've been scene for 3 years I think. But haven't colored my hair an un natural color before.please no bad comments. Thanks

Answer
People probably won't be surprised, they'll probably love it! I've dyed my hair before, but not the whole thing, and others liked it. If your scene, and have been for awhile, others probably expected you to do that, lots of scene people do, so... Yep.

How Blonde can I go with my hair?

I'm planning on going Blonde in a few weeks. Only Problem is, I'm not sure how blonde I can go. I have rather pale skin, with yellow undertones, that does not tan easily. My hair is REALLY thick and my hair color right now is a red/brown with blonde highlights. My natural color is a very dark blonde, almost brown. During the summer it is impossible for me to keep a vibrent red because it fades very quickly. So does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Answer
be careful as very blonde hair can be very ageing. If you're young that's fine, but if you're a bit older you could end up looking like trailer trash mutton dressed as lamb.

What the best hair color for yellow undertones?

Q. Is it better to go cool or warmer if you have a really yellow undertone. Im trying to find a color that will cancel out the yellowness of my skin because i hate it I always look like im sick or something.

Answer
I have a really "olive" skin tone, I always try to go with dark ash brown.. make sure it's ash though, the golden colors always make my hair get this reddish tint and makes me look sick.

Okay, I am a novice when it comes to this sort of thing, so here it goes: What is in for fashion this Fall and Winter? Colors, textures, graphics/patterns, accessories such as jewerly and belts, suits, etc? For beauty, what makeup looks are in for these seasons? The last thing I want to look is outdated. What colors are in for eyeshadow, polish, mascara, lipstick, flavor for lipgloss(most popular), and blush? I would like your opinion on makeup looks for holidays or parties too please, same goes with clothing. If this helps I am a plus size woman with a round face so please do this around my body type and/or face shape if at all possible. And for the makeup I have light brown hair and blue eyes. Thanks a bunch!!! =)

Answer
I don't tend to change my make-up with the season - I was always taught that it was most ladylike to wear as little as you need, and stick with muted, natural colours. I always use Elizabeth Arden Light-1 powder and matching foundation, cream coloured eyeshadow, a little rose blush and brown mascara. The brown colour really makes blue eyes "pop." If it's a special occasion, I wear cinnamon coloured lipstick, very natural, and brown eyeliner.

You should try brushing on your blush (or dabbing, if it's liquid blush) on an angle to make your face look longer and slimmer.

In winter I always stick with lots of wool and woolly-looking fabrics - wool skirts, tweedy pants, that sort of thing, in houndstooth, tartans or checks - textured, wintery patterns, and pair it with clingy, slim sweaters. I own black, brown, and a bright red one - black and brown are slimming and will go with nearly any clothing, whereas the red complements my very white skin. I usually stick with darker, earthy colours. Either that, or I wear plain, dark pants or a pencil skirt with a businessy blouse worn underneath a tight v-neck sweater.

If I'm doing business with someone that day, I wear a long, pointy-toed shoe with a low heel. The long, pointy shape of the shoe really makes your leg look thinner. If it's just me around the office or at a friend's house, I just wear a pair of tidy-looking black slip-on flats that I bought at Payless.

I wear a lot of to-the-knee wool coats, paired with tight leather or microfibre gloves. My favourite colours for coats are navy and black, as they're very slimming, with dark gloves. I pair that with one of those Indian pashmina-style scarves in a bright colour.

I personally like wearing big, clunky earrings, though I can't really do that at the office. I also like strings of pearls or Czech glass necklaces in shiny colours. If I'm out on the town, I'll wear clunky jewelry, a black dress, and some trendy looking shoes - stiletto heels in patent leather, maybe, or some glittery or metallic peep-toed heels.

Remember, certain pieces of clothing will never become out of date, and can be dressed up with cheap jewelry and shoes - a little black dress, a blouse and pencil skirt, etcetera.

I personally have a certain style because I'm young and in a conservative profession. Pick up a copy of Vogue, or poke around Fashionologie.com or a similar site, and pick things that attract you.

What is the best technique for coloring long thick curly hair?

Pook

my hair is really thick and really curly, and long. I'm afriad that it will take soo long on one side of my hair, once I move to the other side, the first side would already be processed. Which is the best and painless way to color curly hair at home? I don't want to go to a professional.

Answer
I used to think the same thing..I have long. thick, curly hair as well. Most colors only process to a certain level. If you are making your hair lighter..you may have to be a little more careful, but it's really not that different. And be sure to get more than you think you will need!
I always start with the top...and work my way down, instead of moving from one side to the other;)

I am looking for a stylist who knows how to cut and color naturally curly hair?

Sara P

I moved out to Ventura county (CA) a year and half ago and have been searching for a stylist who KNOWS how to cut and color curly hair. Do any curly girls out there have a great stylist they don't mind sharing?

Answer
That's where I'm from!!! Go to the hairstylists downtown, they're pretty good, but also, I used to go to this spa ( little pricey) called Yamaguchis but I was completely satisfied with the work - that was over 7 yrs ago, so they've been there for a while, but yeah, give them a try, and if you choose someone else, just bring pics with you on how you want your hair to be and be specific - it's your hair and they're supposed to give you what you want. Good luck & try the burger joint - Dukes down by Seaward - towards the coast they have wonderful burgers!

New clothes? wear something different? a way to make my face look better?

thanks!

Answer
Hey! (:

I'm sat with my boyfriend and asked him what he thought would help to improve your looks as you asked. He replied "I'm dog ugly and I've got a girlfriend. Just tell him to wait. - Besides, he's not ugly."

So, that's his advice! (; (but he's not ugly! - he just thinks he is) and that's probably your problem too!

Anyway, I don't think you need to try and improve your looks. I think you look perfectly fine. (:

But if you really are conscious of your appearance, then it's always the clothes that make a big difference. When looking at your appearance, I get the idea that a style that would suit you best is "sophistication", so, here goes! ^-^

I'd ditch the light blue jeans - they are seemingly going out of fashion now (especially with the girls' attention) - dark colours are more trendy now, in straight leg or skinny styles. Try shopping around in Topman, Asos, H&M, Next, Ebay, Amazon, Joe Browns (This shop is great for trendy styles! Check it out!), Primark, House of Fraser, Debenhams & Ted Baker. They are always ontop with clothing - check out the mannequin dolls for further inspiration if you need it. (:

Here are a few outfits I have made in the past - they are trendy, modern outfits that I am sure you could rock! (:

As for your hair, why not run a bit of hair wax into the hair to add some volume?
You could always try highlights in your hair? Get some brown shades in there! (;

The only way to feel good and confident on the outside is to feel good inside - eat a good diet - eating lots of fruit and veg always make me feel great! ^-^ And exercise regularly. That also makes you feel better. ^-^

Hope this helped! (:
And good luck

I want to dye my hair today and tomorrow put a keratin treatment in it?

AskAnswerD

I am African American with 4b/c natural hair.

I want to dye my hair using SheaMoisture Coloring Line system and then follow up shortly with Organix Brazillian Keratin 30 Day treatment.

Has anyone used both of these products on natural hair? I currently have SheaMoisture's Dark Golden Blonde hair color in my head now. I dyed it about a month ago. I have never used a BKT before.

Please advise and suggest! Thanks!

Answer
Heat & chemicals are hair's worst enemies.

Chemicals can enter the body through the skin. BOTH causes cancer.

> > > Hair dye chemicals linked to cancer
London, Feb 20, 2013 I've been saying that since 2009.
Hair dyes, which include home hair colouring kits and those used at pricey salons, are linked to deadly cancer-causing chemicals, warn scientists. In 2009 the Mail revealed that women who used hair dyes more than nine times a year had a 60% greater risk of contracting blood cancer.
A year later the European Commission banned 36 hair dyes which put long-term users at risk of bladder cancer. < < < <â¨

The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. Itâs made from coal tar and is used in both permanent and semi-permanent hair colours. Itâs well-known to be a cause of serious allergic reactions -- including something called contact dermatitis which can lead to rashes, blisters, and open sores.
PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time. Skin specialist Najjia Ashraf reveals that there are barely any dyes that donât contain this toxin; even the ones who claim they donât, are not being honest. âBig brands often escape the blame by suggesting they are ammonia-free. However, ammonia and PPD are two very different things and PPD is present in nearly every dye because it is what gives off the colour,â she explains.

Permanent black hair dye is linked to causing leukemia and lymphomas.

Google: January Jones: "My Hair Is Falling Out In Clumps" 1-28-13 To quote Joni Mitchell, "you don't know what you got till your thick hair is gone."

Hair straighteners are known as hair relaxers, keratin treatments and hair-smoothing products. They work by breaking and reforming the chemical bonds in keratin, which is the main protein that gives shape to each hair.

Google: keratin treatment warnings. About 2,620,000 results (0.36 seconds) 6-24-12.

The FDA has previously received complaints that the products cause adverse reactions, including nervous system problems such as headaches, respiratory tract problems, nausea, chest pain, vomiting and rashes.

Google: What Does Organic Mean for Beauty Products?

Hair-straightening products are allowed to contain small concentrations of formaldehyde (0.2 percent). But several hair-straightening solutions have been found to contain well above the allowable limit. For example, one popular hair-straightening product that advertised itself as âformaldehyde-freeâ actually contained 6.8 percent to 11.8 percent formaldehyde.
Another example: Fourteen women, including two from North Texas and one from Houston, are suing Unilever, the maker of a product they claim caused permanent damage to their hair.
"It transforms frizzy, unmanageable hair into hair that's sleeker and easier to style," said the commercial for the Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion 30-Day Smoothing Kit, which is no longer being sold
When she began looking online for more information about the product, she said she found some people who said it worked, but more who said it damaged their hair.
She discovered a Facebook page devoted to angry consumers, and there are multiple postings on YouTube. I've been warning people about relaxers since 2009 and people are giving me thumbs down!
BTW: A variety of hair-straightening products used in professional salons can expose both hairdressers and their customers to formaldehyde. The results show that three professional hair-smoothing treatments labeled "formaldehyde free" can produce the cancer-causing chemical at concentrations above the occupational exposure limits set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. They tested four products: Coppola Keratin Complex Blonde Formula, Global Keratin Juvexin Optimized Functional Keratin, La Brasiliana Escluso Keratin Treatment with Collagen, and Brazilian Blowout Acai Professional Smoothing Solution. While ChemRisk tested four popular brands of hair straighteners, THERE ARE HUNDREDS on the market. Nov. 11-11

By contrast, beauty salon owners and stylists generally lack a scientific background and don't have a keen awareness of the danger of working with products that contain formaldehyde, experts say.

How much damage will I cause my hair?

Esme

I am planning to bleach my hair (already a mid to dark blonde) with 20 volume bleach and then leave a week (in which I am planning to use a deep conditioner or protein mask every day) before dying it a light pastel pink. I will leave this colour 3 weeks, maybe dying it over and maybe not, depending how fast it fades. After that I am planning to dye it a mid or dark brown (my school does not allow unnatural hair colours :'( )

Does anyone know how much damage this is likely to cause, considering I have very thick, strong hair already?

Answer
That's A LOT of chemicals on your head!

Overlapping dye onto previously colored hair is what creates dullness and dryness. If you color your hair @ home or salon, let your roots grow out as long as you can stand, so the line of demarcation is easier to spot. Only run color through the lengths for five minutes to refresh the ends. To extend the time between touch-ups, use a gloss and deep -conditioning treatments. They will help smooth cuticles roughed up by daily wear & tear, and the hair will look shinier. ~ Harry Josh, hairstylist of the celebrities.

Celebrity wears two-tone hair dye all the time, trying to grow out their dye. They call that the ombre style.

Style meets chemistry meets biology: We're talking hair coloring.

Playing with chemicals is not like playing with clothes, or doing a manicure, there are penalties for playing chemicals in the lab. Even hair color experts at the salon are not rocket scientists, they do a bang up dye jobs to their clients or their own hair.

I have a small, round face and I kind of want to change up my hairstyle. I'll be going to the salon on saturday to get my hair done, and I've been thinking of getting it done like this:

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l51/RaeRae-Chan/fringe-hairstyles-2012-for-women-80_zps8898cb29.jpg

Would that work with my face shape?
Oh! And my hair type is thick, too, so I wonder if it'd even work with that style.

Answer
I have a very round face, and once did a hairstyle similar to this. It would look so cute!

How do black women maintain their hairstyle after exercising?

best hairstyle for a 50 year old woman image

Jennifer H

I exercise almost daily. I need a style that is attractive and not hard/ghetto. I am a thirty year old Black woman. Thanks!

Answer
I thought I was the only one with this problem! I wear my hair in a straight sewed in weave and when I just get it done (like yesterday morning) it makes me not even wana workout because I dont wana sweat it out! Anyway, of all the hairstyles Ive had I find that this is the best for working out. Being that only the front of your natural hair and maybe the back is out, that can be easily touched up. I am able to just wrap my hair after I leave the gym and the next day it looks fine without flat ironing it. You can also go with a wavy or curly sew in which will really blend with the texture of you hair after working out, just moisturize and go! Remember the type of hair you purchase makes all the difference. Try REMI-VELVET or any REMI hair its about 50$ a pack for 12" but it can last for up to 4 months if it is taken care of and done correctly. It is so silky and doesnt crawl up the back of you neck! I hate to be limited to only braids because I workout. When Im not at the gym sometimes i want something cuter than braids!

What is an appropriate hairstyle for a 50 year old? I still have long hair. Any ideas for a new style?

I've been thinking about a new style for quite a while. I've been thinking of shorter hair, but have no ideas. Most women my age have old lady hair, and I don't want that. Thanks.

What are good hair styles for men with straight hair?

James Mart

I have very straight black hair. I want to grow my hair out a little bit - what are good hair styles for that? Examples? I don't want any "emo" hair, just normal stuff.

Answer
Justine Beiber hair. That's been around since the 60's, my exBF started that since the 70's. It is simple, shows how silky, shiny, soft & smooth your hair is.

My OS cuts his own hair, it's thick & straight, so he cuts them very short. So does my YS, his is short & curly, but he keeps his short too and cuts his own now.

They both used to gel & spiked theirs, but staying away from hair products now.

What kind of hair style should I get? What type of hair style do most girls find attractive in guys?

introverte

In recent years, probably more than a year now, the hair style I have been getting is buzz 4 on the side, and buzz 5 on top, is that out of style now? Also I usually put gel in my hair and spike it up with a comb, I am wondering is that an unattractive feature that girls do not like? What type of hair style do most girls find attractive? or does it depend on the guy?
Which hairstyle would go good with me? the way I dress is Quiksilver, Volcom, Billabong, Abercrombie, Hollister, Hurley, etc. I wear Vans shoes with jeans. Here is how I look, should I change my hair style? what should it be? what would look good on me?:

I usually use Clairol (permanent) hair color and I wanted to know if other people like other brands better. I'm brunette (ash brown) and intend to stay that way. I just like to cover the grays that are popping up.

Answer
Those cheap box dyes from grocery stores are terrible for your hair. You don't have to be a licensed beautician to get a tube of color, developer, and a brush/mixing bowl from a beauty supply store. I'd call them in your area before going to double check the ones in your area.

Advantages: more cost effective, better coverage, less harmful on your hair, not as toxic. There are more organic options available as well, but they don't tend to cover grey as well.

How do I hightlightmy darkbrown hair to to cover my grey but not with blonde?

I use Chi color products. Any suggestions?

[L]RawR?

Okay so im wondering what trendy edgy styles will work for me

Right now its long (past shoulders) Reddish blonde and wavy
it gets frizzy sometimes..

So i need help, ask me if you need pictures or something

Answer
You can go wild with whatever styles you want,
but KEEP IN MIND how short you cut your hair if you choose to.
I've seen way too many girls with otherwise beautiful hair decide to chop it all off, and then afterwards freak out and buy really unconvincing extensions.

Assuming that you have a hair straightener (flat iron, etc), you'll be using it a LOT with most styles, so also be ready to prepare for (and avoid!) damage from the constant straightening. So pretty much, condition well.

When it comes to colors, there are a lot more options than the usual two-toned jet black and bleach blonde. Reddish blonde is a nice color, so perhaps you might consider adding different reds and blondes throughout your hair to add sharp contrast.

makeup policy in the army?

me*

are females allowed to wear makeup while in the army? i doubt its allowed during basic training, but what about after? if so, how much? and i know that hair has to be in a bun above the collar but is that the only acceptable style?

Answer
Yes, makeup is allowed. Grooming standards for the Army are covered in AR (Army Regulation) 670-1 Wear and Appearance of the Uniform

http://www.army.mil/usapa/epubs/pdf/r670_1.pdf

The first chapter covers hair, nails, makeup, eyeglasses, jewelry and such.

"(a) Females may wear cosmetics if they are conservative and complement the uniform and their complexion.
Eccentric, exaggerated, or trendy cosmetic styles and colors, to include makeup designed to cover tattoos, are
inappropriate with the uniform and are prohibited. Permanent makeup, such as eyebrow or eyeliner, is authorized as
long as the makeup conforms to the standards outlined above.
(b) Females will not wear shades of lipstick and nail polish that distinctly contrast with their complexion, that
detract from the uniform, or that are extreme. Some examples of extreme colors include, but are not limited to, purple,
gold, blue, black, white, bright (fire-engine) red, khaki, camouflage colors, and fluorescent colors. Soldiers will not
apply designs to nails or apply two-tone or multi-tone colors to nails.
(2) Females will comply with the cosmetics policy while in any military uniform or while in civilian clothes on
duty."

Here's the reg on hair:

"(3) Female haircuts will conform to the following standards.
(a) Females will ensure their hair is neatly groomed, that the length and bulk of the hair are not excessive, and that
the hair does not present a ragged, unkempt, or extreme appearance. Likewise, trendy styles that result in shaved
portions of the scalp (other than the neckline) or designs cut into the hair are prohibited. Females may wear braids and
cornrows as long as the braided style is conservative, the braids and cornrows lie snugly on the head, and any hairholding
devices comply with the standards in 1â8a(3)(d) below. Dreadlocks (unkempt, twisted, matted individual parts
of hair) are prohibited in uniform or in civilian clothes on duty. Hair will not fall over the eyebrows or extend below
the bottom edge of the collar at any time during normal activity or when standing in formation. Long hair that falls
naturally below the bottom edge of the collar, to include braids, will be neatly and inconspicuously fastened or pinned,
so no free-hanging hair is visible. This includes styles worn with the physical fitness uniform/improved physical fitness
uniform (PFU/IPFU).
(b) Styles that are lopsided or distinctly unbalanced are prohibited. Ponytails, pigtails, or braids that are not secured
to the head (allowing hair to hang freely), widely spaced individual hanging locks, and other extreme styles that
protrude from the head are prohibited. Extensions, weaves, wigs, and hairpieces are authorized; however, these
additions must have the same general appearance as the individualâs natural hair. Additionally, any wigs, extensions,
hairpieces, or weaves must comply with the grooming policies set forth in this paragraph.
(c) Females will ensure that hairstyles do not interfere with proper wear of military headgear and protective masks
or equipment at any time (see 1â8a(1)(a), above). When headgear is worn, the hair will not extend below the bottom
edge of the front of the headgear, nor will it extend below the bottom edge of the collar.
(d) Hair-holding devices are authorized only for the purpose of securing the hair. Soldiers will not place hairholding
devices in the hair for decorative purposes. All hair-holding devices must be plain and of a color as close to
the soldierâs hair as is possible or clear. Authorized devices include, but are not limited to, small, plain scrunchies
(elastic hair bands covered with material), barrettes, combs, pins, clips, rubber bands, and hair bands. Devices that are
conspicuous, excessive, or decorative are prohibited. Some examples of prohibited devices include, but are not limited
to, large, lacy scrunchies; beads, bows, or claw clips; clips, pins, or barrettes with butterflies, flowers, sparkles, gems,
or scalloped edges; and bows made from hairpieces.
(e) Soldiers may not wear hairnets unless they are required for health or safety reasons, or in the performance of
duties (such as those of a cook). No other type of hair covering is authorized in lieu of the hairnet. The commander
will provide the hairnet to the soldier at no cost."

**You are authorized to wear makeup in BDU. You probably won't have time to put on makeup in basic, and it's usually frowned upon, but it's not unauthorized. In AIT you'll have more time and it's less restrictive and as long as you stay within the regs, it's allowed.**
