How can I get my hair healthy?

Chastity

My hair is very damaged from perming my hair and relaxing it and dying it. I've already cut my hair it's to my shoulders. It's really dry it looks dry and unhealthy. What are some suggestions to get it healthy and looking better? What are some products I could use too?

Answer
Heat & chemicals are hair's worst enemies. Natural hair means no relaxer, no chemical to straighten your hair out, no styling heating tools. The way it grows out your root, thatâs the way you rock it.
Always choose a shampoo that's tailored to your hair needs. For example, certain shampoos are created for fine, curly, color treated, or dandruff-prone hair.
Best advice from Hollywood's well known hairstylist in the 80's once said: "Keep foods in your mouth and hair products on your hair."

CARE: 1. Washing less often, builds the natural oil your hair needs, to get them smoother, shinier, silkier, softer. Man-made products are just temporary, until you wash them again, and at the same time washing off the natural oil your hair NEEDS. Hair products just absorb on your hair if they're dry, like a sponge. Shampoo & condition is all you need.
Jessica Simpson have figured it out, she said she wash her hair every week. She used to abuse her hair, then start selling hair extensions because her hair starting falling from all the chemicals, but she woke up and found out how to keep her hair healthy AGAIN.

When you wash your hair with one of those nutrient-rich shampoos or conditioners, most of the nutrients and active ingredients in the product donât actually end up in your hair, they wind up down the drain⦠along with all the money you spent on the shampoo. It is HOW you use to style your hair or what styling tools that damage the hair, and what chemicals you're adding to the hair, not the shampoo or conditioner.

2. If you want your hair soft, you can briefly blow dry it, set them in curlers or pin curls them, blow dry, let them cool off, take the curlers &/or pins, finger tousle the hair or brush lightly to style. They will be silky, soft, smooth & shiny (for straight hair).

3. Cutting your split ends yourself, spend 5-10 mins. on a sunny day so you can easily spot them, using a 2" scissors, cut strand by strand, section by section, allowing new growth to take over. Then 2x a year, get a good hair cut. This won't speed things up, but it will make the hair look healthier while it's growing. Even healthy hair like mine get them, due to normal brushing & styling. but mostly from using stretchy chord for stressing the hair.

DIET: If you've straightened your hair in the past, it may grow slowly or none at all.
Google: "Foods for Healthy Hair" or http://gulfnews.com/life-style/beauty-fashion/beauty/best-foods-for-healthy-hair-1.1183522
Your hair may be the fastest-growing tissue in the body but, unlike the skin, it cannot repair itself. That is why getting the right balance of vitamins and proteins is imperative. Don't expect to look like you've stepped out of a hair commercial the day after you've changed your diet. It is likely to take at least three months before you actually see tangible results.

Growing healthy hair doesn't come from a bottle or pills and hair products do not speed hair growth. Any hair oil, is another form to keep hair moisturized, nothing more. If you're in HS, your hair & nails should be growing normally, and as healthily as possible, since you're eating healthy foods. But when hair isn't growing as fast, it's because they've been tampered with: chemicals, hair straightening, etc. . .
RE: HAIR OIL: "You find people oiling hair every single day, the hair sweats and it doesnât get washed. What do you think happens? It goes limp and becomes thin because it is not breathing,â Shamillah Mohammed, a hairstylist at SUQA, says.

Best answer comes from people with Avatars, showing their healthy, shiny, silky, soft, smooth hair.

How can I make my hair look good without heat styling it?

Just Me

My hair is currently about 3 inches below my collarbones. I'm trying to grow my hair down to my natural waist. I know, it will take a long time. I also know heat styling (flat iron, curling iron, etc.) is bad for your hair. The thing is, if I don't heat style, my hair looks like bedhead. It's wavy but not pretty wavy, it all just goes in different directions. So I was wondering if anyone has any techniques or tips for styling hair without heat! Or products like curling/straightening shampoo/conditioner that work well.
Thank you!

Answer
Hair products, as you've discovered are NOT MADE OF GLUE to fix, prevent, reverse, hair from getting frizzy. Frizzy, means they're dry, and they lack moisture.

Drinking water does nothing to the hair that's DEAD already. Hair products does nothing to the hair that's DEAD already, and they feel like sponge. Google Snopes, & search Drinking 8 glasses of water. Totally false! Just another reason to sell bottled water & to pee more.
Best advice from Hollywood's well known hairstylist in the 80's once said: "Keep foods in your mouth and hair products on your hair."

When you wash your hair with one of those nutrient-rich shampoos, or conditioners most of the nutrients and active ingredients in the product donât actually end up in your hair, they wind up down the drain⦠along with all the money you spent on the shampoo or conditioner It is HOW you use to style your hair or what styling tools that damage the hair, and what chemicals you're adding to the hair, not the shampoo.

2. Your hair is envy from us stick straight haired girls! If you know how to care for your hair type, you won't have this problem. Melina Kanakaredes, Keri Russell are examples who has hair like yours and they've got beautiful wavy hair. Watch Deandre Brackensick on American Idol. Google them.
Shampoo. Condition. Towel dry, scrunch with gel like Samy, or hand lotion, blow-dry using a diffuser briefly, tousle the hair, finger comb, shake your head & you're good to go. If you don't have a diffuser, use a blow heat dryer on low for 5 mins. Give it a final rinse with carbonated or sparkling water. Sparkling water reduces frizz because of its low pH level. This is a good treatment if you often let your curls air-dry because it will help to eliminate the frizz caused by humidity.
When you wake up, instead of shampooing again, keep a bottled water filled with water/conditioner and spray on your hair. Scrunch, finger comb and you're good to go! Google Haley Rinehart - American Idol she's got long beautiful curly hair! When my hair was permed in the 80's, my hair looked like hers. Look @ my hair now.

In a pinch lip balm can double as hair wax to add definition and get rid of hairline frizz.

One method to make it look fuller, add body, tame the curls, bouncier, thicker, SEXIER, softer & shinier hair is to set your hair with plastic curlers (not Velcro) after you towel dry, you'll end up with uniform balance of curls. Blow dry briefly while curling them in curlers. Take them out, and finger comb to style. Used by the best hair color models, and the fashion industry, like Victoria Secret Fashion Show Dec. 2009, 2010, & 2011, America's Next Top Models, EXPRESS, Toddlers & Tiaras, Dance Moms, Dancing with the Stars, even used on Oprah's hair . . . . and continued to be used today where salons care about pampering your hair. When you see hair on TV a hair color commercial, they're not done by curling or straightening tools. Hair that shines like that and feels like hair, not hay, has to be done by the best hair tools available w/out damaging to the hair. When you take the curlers out, finger comb to style or lightly brush. Tousle the hair up. or shake your hair. You can use large, medium or small curlers, that depends on the length of your hair. Think of JLo's hair, she was voted as the Sexiest Woman by People magazine and Glamour's Woman of the Year 2011.

Google: Imogen Thomas wears rollers in her hair to take out the trash.

Last: In the beauty & hair industry, there is no industry-agreed meaning for terms like 'organic' or 'natural'. Unlike the food industry, these terms are not regulated for cosmetics which means companies can use these terms pretty freely

How can I get my eyebrows to match my hair color?

best hair color summer 2013 image

My natural hair color is very light brown, some people even call it blonde. But my eyebrows are dark brown. It's not so bad in the winter but in the summer I constantly have people asking me if I dye my hair, and I don't. If I get them bleached, does that last forever, or do I have to keep doing it? I've read that you should tweeze them, but my eyebrows are kind of thick and pronounced. And I do NOT want to dye my hair to match them. I just want to know how to lighten them without making me look ridiculous or spending a ton of money. Help please?

Answer
Unless you're born with MATCHING EYEBROWS & LASHES with your hair color, you don't.

Myth 7: Dye your eyebrows to match your hair color.
False: â Your hair color and eyebrows should not be a perfect match. A slight contrast is good,â says Warren, makeup artist to the stars. To lighten up your brows and fill them in for a natural look, use a brow pencil or powder one shade lighter than your hair color.

Never dye your eyebrows or eyelashes. This can hurt your eyes. You might even go blind. FDA does not allow using hair dyes on eyelashes and eyebrows.

That's why someone invented eyebrow pencils. If you want to change the color of your eyebrows, shave them, then line them with eyebrow pencils. Google celebrities with different color hair and see what eyebrow colors they have. Google Lady Gaga and check out what color eyebrows she's got with her so many wig changes. Have you seen Miley's eyebrows? She's now blonde!
Google: Anne Hathaway blonde hair. See what color her eyebrows are.

Example from one salon to a client: "i have been a beauty therapist for 8 years and have never experienced a client react to an eyelash tint..
The client came in to have her hair done and while she was having this done asked about the eyelash tint.. she told me that she had a reaction in the past when she had it done so i gave her a patch test. about 40 Min's later she said that by now she would have reacted to it and said she would like to go with it and have it done.. so taking her world for it i done the tint she then asked for her eyebrows too..
this was on a saturday, monday morning i got a phone call from my boss saying i had to come in as the client had a reaction anyway when i got there i was a bit shaken as i didn't know what to expect the client was very sore.. she then said that she didn't want to take further action and that she just wanted me to know to be more careful for next time :s . . . . i think I'm going to give up my job too as my confidence has gone down the drain :( "

Watch Mirror Mirror - observe Lily Collin's eyebrows, that had become her trademark. Glamour magazine in Sept. 2012 issue was focused on her, by guest editor, Victoria Beckham. Lily is a model, English & British actress & TV personality. She's 23.

Chemicals can enter the body through the skin.

London, Feb 20, 2013 I've been saying that since 2009.
Hair dyes, which include home hair colouring kits and those used at pricey salons, are linked to deadly cancer-causing chemicals, warn scientists. In 2009 the Mail revealed that women who used hair dyes more than nine times a year had a 60% greater risk of contracting blood cancer.

What Color Should I Dye My Hair And What Brand?

Rachel

So I'm dying my hair an unnatural color for the summer and originally was planning to dye it a bright fire truck red. I'm dying it today or Tomorrow and I'm in between the colors red teal or lilac. I have dark brown hair (I am bleaching) dark brown eyes and a medium skin tone. What color do you think would look best for me and what brand do you recommend ? Thanks so much if you answered!! Have a nice summer!

Answer
Dyeing your hair in the summer is the worst thing that could happen to your hair: Chlorine, the sun, all fades the dye faster and the sun causing your hair to get sunburned more.
Red, white & blue, it will go well for the Fourth!

Overlapping dye onto previously colored hair is what creates dullness and dryness. If you color your hair @ home or salon, let your roots grow out as long as you can stand, so the line of demarcation is easier to spot. Only run color through the lengths for five minutes to refresh the ends. To extend the time between touch-ups, use a gloss and deep -conditioning treatments. They will help smooth cuticles roughed up by daily wear & tear, and the hair will look shinier. ~ Harry Josh, hairstylist of the celebrities.

Celebrity wears two-tone hair dye all the time, trying to grow out their dye. They call that the ombre style.

Style meets chemistry meets biology: We're talking hair coloring.

Playing with chemicals is not like playing with clothes, or doing a manicure, there are penalties for playing chemicals in the lab. Even hair color experts at the salon are not rocket scientists, they do a bang up dye jobs to their clients or their own hair.

Google: Teen 'feared she would die' after reaction to hair dye
The allergic reaction was caused by a well-known brand of semi-permanent hair dye Chloe used to turn her hair black for a Halloweâen party. . . . . called for beauty bosses to ban hair dye chemical PPD (para-phenylenediamine) from the shelves. 11-04-11

The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. Itâs made from coal tar and is used in both permanent and semi-permanent hair colours. Itâs well-known to be a cause of serious allergic reactions -- including something called contact dermatitis which can lead to rashes, blisters, and open sores.
PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time.

Google: A 38-year old mother left in a coma after using hair dye. SHE DYED HER HAIR MANY TIMES BEFORE, USING THE SAME BRAND. The British woman who went into coma after a reaction to hair dye has died after a year. Updated 11-25-12. The woman suffered a heart failure, struggled for breath and became unconsciousness. Her family blamed paraphenylenediamine, a chemical found in hair colour. Her family has now called for paraphenylenediamine to be banned from home dye kits. In 2000, a 38-year-old Indian-origin woman from Birmingham, Narinder Devi, died after an allergic reaction to hair dye.

Permanent black hair dye is linked to causing leukemia and lymphomas.

i'm wondering how to get scene style hair, but fromthe pics i've scene it looks like not many of thwm have short hair.so the real question is how do i get short scene hair. i'm going to be scene cuz that's what i like but i dont want to be a poser.what should i do?

Answer
first bring a picture of short scene hair to your hairstylist...one of these is good..:
http://media.photobucket.com/image/short%20scene%20hair/btmrocks1/thscene_hair.jpg?o=1
http://media.photobucket.com/image/short%20scene%20hair/ladydog2006/short%20scene%20hair/hair656.jpg?o=7
http://media.photobucket.com/image/short%20scene%20hair/elizabethwalker09/Short_Black_Scene_Hair.jpg?o=20

then go out and buy a teasing comb:
http://www.manicure4u.co.uk/images/6029.JPG
you can get them at any beauty supply store just ask for one

then buy hairspray..you need EXTRA STRENGTH hairspray trust me i have 6 bottles and i only use one because i had to test all the other ones so use tresemme tres two extra hold(i got it at target)
http://www.tresemme.com/classic-styling/products/tres-two-extra-hold-hairspray.aspx

also you need to get hair bows! i buy mine at claires at the mall

now you are ready to get your scene hair but if you dont want to look like a poser then after you get your hair cut dont tease it for like a week then start teasing it..
# Spray the hair with an aerosol hairspray first and let it dry.

# Using a rattail comb or other fine toothed comb, and part off a section of hair from the rest of the strands. Many women tease their bang section, so if thats what you're doing, leave bangs down only. Clip the rest of your hair out of the way. Smaller sections work best and will provide for tighter and longer lasting hold.

# Hold the hair strand straight up with one hand while you hold your comb with the other hand. Comb (or stroke) the hair strand from the ends of your hair down towards the scalp. Repeat this until all the hair looks teased. The backcombed strand should feel thicker than the rest of your hair. Spray the section with hairspray and go on to the next section.

# If you want a more uniform and long lasting style, hold the new section so that when you tease hair you are actually grabbing a small piece from the last section. This will prevent "holes" in your hair style.

# When all your hair is teased, take a soft natural bristled brush and gently smooth the hair down. Take care to not brush too hard since you only want to smooth the very top layer.

# Finish your style with a flexible hair spray or a freeze spray, depending on how long you want your style to last. Add a touch of spray shine or shine product to smooth any stray hairs.

*If you want your hair to stand up at the roots, another way to get them to cooperate and achieve this is to:

1) Decide which hair sections you want to lift up. (i.e. bangs)

2) Spray the roots with either freeze hairspray or use a apply a firm holding gel or mousse on the roots.

3) Holding your hair straight up by the ends, use the low control on your blow dryer and dry the roots that you sprayed with hairspray or applied gel or mousse to.

This will freeze your roots in the upright position. You won't have to tease hair to get it to lift. This will also hold for hours if the air around you isn't too humid. The more humidity in the air, the less time the effect will last.

and ta-da you are scene hope i helped

So I live in part of the country where it is humid right now. I normally use honey to style my hair, sounds weird but I learned this trick a few years back and its great for your hair, however in this humid weather it goes flat. Answer
Well since you are into the scene emo style do your hair like. Awsome, you could make it big or just do straight with bangs. Anyways, to custom your look, you should have jewlery, maybe some wristbands with syaings or logos on them like your fav band, or eg./ stop bullying. And even silly bands they are epic with anything. Like today i wore my uniform a plad skirt with a black tee and i wore silly bands and it still worked. And if you really wanna custom it maybe a tie, or long chain. Dont forget makeup, all you have to use really iis eyeliner (pencil) and mascara. Oh and if your aloud wear a skirt with spandex instead of pants.

Does Sarah Palin remind you of Hitler in some ways?

Laurisa

Sarah's main selling point is her backwoods/rural persona, Hitler was viewed as somewhat of a country bumpkin. Sarah has the trademark hairstyle and glasses, Hitler had the mustache. Both had a celebrity style twin (Tina Fey and Charlie Chaplin, respectively).

This isn't a 100% serious question I just thought it would be amusing to explore.
@DxLugio - I said "in some ways." Hitler hadn't killed millions of Jews yet either when he was Sarah's age.

Answer
The Chinese government likens the Dalai Lama to Hitler.

Are you like the Chinese government, or is Sarah Palin Like the Dalai Lama?

Perhaps all 3 suppositions (plus that your question) are fanciful in the extreme.

are white german shepherd dogs the same as standard german shepherds?

Are they considered equal in intelligence, obedience, and behavior. Why are they white? Is it because of cross breeding or genetic mutation? Do they cost more?
P.S. Is it basically the same dog except for the color?

Answer
â¢â¢ Despite the beliefs of a very vociferous segment in the USofA (about 5% of all Yank GSD breeders), there is no White German Shepherd Dog. And AKC rules prevent recognition of any breed or variety whose distinguishing feature is a fault in the parent breed's Standard.
At about the turn of the millennium a group of Swiss fanciers of white GSDs (note the difference between a capital W for part of a breed name, and an ordinary w for an adjective) persuaded the Kennel Club in Switzerland to open a separate Breed Register for those of their pooches that had pedigrees where, for at least 6 generations, every ancestor was a GSD registered as being white. Those are now the BBS = Berger Blanc Suisse.

Although fanciers of self-whites consider the banning from shows (although the UKC accepts white GSDs, the UKC is an outcast internationally; its registrations & titles are unacceptable to any official Kennel Club) as mere racial prejudice, the fact is that ALL sheep herding dogs - Shelties, the various Collies, the Belgian & German Shepherd Dog breeds - are required to be DARK on top. There are at least 2 valid reasons: (1) So the shepherd working far away can see what the dog is up to. (2) Colourless dogs get little respect from sheep so have to work MUCH harder, which burns up energy (that must be replaced by food) and time (which cannot be replaced).
A white coat is also totally unsuitable for almost all a GSD's other tasks, such as a dog used to alert a military patrol that they are near the enemy, an avalanche rescue dog, and so on.

That said, the better-bred white GSDs can do fine in KC obedience. But they are untypical as GSDs. And because their breeders focus on producing whites, many of the ancestors have been used for their coat despite being poor in health or behaviour, whatever. Some years ago a brave set of Yank breeders for white set up an on-line data-base - I'm told that it shows that 1 in 4 of their pooches has at least one fault (other than being white), a percentage I consider unacceptable.

â¢â¢ Genuinely white dogs are white because they have 2 pairs of recessive alleles - one pair blocks the production of eumelanin (dark pigment), the other blocks the production of phaeomelanin (tan pigments). So a white GSD actually has colourless hairs. But, unlike an albino, it does have pigment in its "leathers" (eye rims, nose, lips, pads) and eyes. And the mutations that created those alleles happened LONG before there were actual registered breeds of dogs, so are now merely alleles, no longer mutations. A note: The alleles that block tans are not 100% effective, and so many self-whites have "badger patches" in their coat.

â¢â¢ Because it has a much more limited scope of use than does a typical GSD, a self-white should cost less than a genuine GSD. There is not room here to go into how to tell a greedy, ignorant BYB gouger from a dedicated, knowledgeable breeder.

â¢â¢ Structurally, most white GSDs are not only white but also too damned big. In addition, because they have been bred by so many pet-is-all people, the odds of finding one that is mentally strong enough for protection work are slim - not that civilians should NEED a dog for protection. Although rarely as exaggerated as the dreadful NAmerican Ski-Slope Dogs that masquerade as GSDs in AKC & CKC rings, they do not meet the requirements of the International Standard of the GSD: http://www.fci.be/uploaded_files/166A1991_en.doc
But a pet doesn't need to be typical of any particular breed.

To ask further questions about GSDs, join some of the 400+ YahooGroups dedicated to various aspects of living with GSDs; most also let you post pics of your pet as it grows up. Each group's Home page tells you what they like to talk about, and how active they are.

Munchkin's

I have naturally ash brown hair, right now, medium ash brown, light blue eyes, and very fair skin with light brown freckles and high cheekbones. I want to dye my hair for a change, and Ive had red b4 and ppl always assumed it was my natural color as most natural redheads are pale, but should I dye it red again? Or blonde? Or darker brown? What hair colors look best with pale skin that has pink and blue undertones and even slightly yellow undertones (but more pink and blue) (and light blue eyes to go with it)? I heard blonde hair can make you look tanner, then I hear it can maek you look paler. I also heard dark hair can make you look paler, if youre already pale. And I heard red hair looks better with tanner skintones, but if thats the case why are most natural redheads pale? So what hair color would look best or prettiest with my skintone?

Answer
Going too dark may give you a goth-like appearance. It may look exotic and intriguing, but only if you have the personality to match it. Going with blonde (or red again) is a safer bet because it will look more natural against your fair complexion. You are right that dark hair could make you look paler, and you would probably want to avoid an "anemic" appearance.

What hair color looks good on people that have really pale skin?

Mariana

I have brown/yellow/green eyes and natural dirty blond hair. My skin is very pale so I was wondering which hair color would look good on people with my skin tone?

Thank you.
I apologize for my bad English.

Answer
A medium Brown, not black as it will be too harsh or
Blond and maybe a few darker (low-light) mixed in between will be nice (dark too because we do not want your face and hair to look the same
Find out from your hairdresser if gold blond h/l or ash will be right for you skin tone

How to get ombre or dip-dye on very dark relaxed hair?

Tiffany

Hi. I already asked a question about this but I forgot a couple details. Okay..

History of my hair-
When I was younger I always wore my hair natural. I am African-American and partially Native-American so my hair (in it's natural state) is coarse and SUPER THICK. My hair color is black with natural red undertones. My mom managed my hair for me and kept it pretty healthy and wanted to keep my hair natural for as long as possible. Then my mom decided it was time for me to start getting my hair relaxed. I first got it relaxed a little bit after I turned 12. I've been getting it relaxed about every 10 weeks since then. Also, I've never dyed my hair, never used any bleach or peroxide. Nope, nothing. I have went to get bangs cut a couple of times and the person who relaxes my hair cuts off the split ends of my hair every once in awhile.

Now: I'm almost 15 and my hair is slightly past shoulder-length. Right now, I'm trying to grow my hair a little longer. I use a shampoo & conditioner that does not use parabens, silicones, sulfates, alcohol, blah blah blah and it's mineral and plant based. I wash my hair once a week ( I wait 2 weeks after I relax it) and I deep condition my hair and I oil it. And I use this product chi silk infusion which I LOVE. I like my natural hair color. When I part my hair, sometimes you can see the lighter parts of my hair. Now, since I like my natural hair color for the most part and don't want to go through the trouble of my roots or anything, I only want to dye the tips of my hair. I honestly don't care if the ends of my hair turn out super bright or if they're just tinted a different color. I just want it to look a little different. Now here's what I want and don't want.

1. I don't want to have to use bleach or anything that will cause bad damage/breakage to my hair or leave it dry.
2. The dye or whatever has to be safe to use on my hair and I would prefer it to be a natural product.
3. If you EXTREMELY suggest I just leave my hair alone, please tell me.

Also, I'm going to wait until my hair is at the desired length before I do anything. Plus I am looking for great haircare tips and products in general :) Thank you!

Answer
First of all, heat & chemicals are hair's worst enemies. The relaxers on your head, already contains formaldehyde causing cancer. If they're dye, they're all chemicals, even Henna which is supposed to be better for you than reg. box dye. It's a good read! Google: Henna for Hair Warnings.

Celebrity wears two-tone hair dye all the time, trying to grow out their dye. They call that look ombre hair color â darker roots, lighter ends â but colorists sees that fading. Women are wanting dimensional color with natural highlights that look like they've been playing out in the sun. On Fashion Police 1-29-13 episode, Khloe Kardashian said: "I had that in 2011!"

"Ombre is the number one poorly done color in this country! It takes a lot of blending and finesse to look natural. The key is to highlight the whole head, then deepen just the roots. Unfortunately, a lot of the ombre I see today is bad - I'm ready for that to be retired! Dye should make hair look expensive and chic. Otherwise, what's the point?" ~ Harry Josh, Hollywood's top hairstylist, who have given Gisele ombre color for 13 years.

They DO SELL OMBRE kits. They also sell hair extensions that you can clip on, comes in various colors, 2/$5 @ Claire's and take them out when you get home. They're fun, funky & safe!

A year later the European Commission banned 22 hair dyes which put long-term users at risk of bladder cancer. < < < <

Your hair is the most fragile of all hair types. They snap & break easily. So you need more TLCs than thin hair. No chemicals. No relaxers specially! No heating styling tools. Finger comb is best or use a wide tooth comb. Do what Oprah & Michelle Obama have been, going natural, using plastic curlers to set their hair. Use oil or conditioner to keep them moisturized. Heat & chemicals are your hair's worst enemies.

The hair of many black women is very fragile and studies have demonstrated that normal brushing and combing the hair can result in breakage. Brushing your hair 100-times a day is a no-no for your hair. Only comb and brush your hair to style it. Also avoid rubber bands or other implements that can physically cut into and break the hair shaft.

Google: Rhonda Lee. Copied & pasted from her getting fired @ the KTBS station.
"I am very proud of my African-American ancestry which includes my hair. For your edification: traditionally our hair doesn't grow downward. It grows upward."
"Many Black women use strong straightening agents in order to achieve a more European grade of hair and that is their choice. However in my case I don't find it necessary."
"I'm very proud of who I am and the standard of beauty I display. As women we come in all shapes, sizes, nationalities, and levels of beauty."
"Showing little girls that being comfortable in the skin and HAIR God gave me is my contribution to society," the TV personality concluded.
Watch: Good Hair - Documentary by Chris Rock 2009. or Tyra Banks What is Good Hair. Black women spend 80% of all hair products. She's got good advice!
Michael âRahniâ Flowers, who served as Obamaâs hairstylist in Chicago for more than 20 years, knows full well the importance great hair plays in a womanâs lifeâand so does Michelle, he says. âSheâs always taken very good care of her hair,â Flowers explains. âHaving beautiful hair is such a sign of health and attractiveness, particularly for black women, because their hair tends to be very fragile, and it needs extra care. Having it look good at all times is an amazing feat in itself. âSheâs never been the kind of woman that obsessed over hair and makeup too much.â

I want to dye my hair today and tomorrow put a keratin treatment in it?

AskAnswerD

I am African American with 4b/c natural hair.

I want to dye my hair using SheaMoisture Coloring Line system and then follow up shortly with Organix Brazillian Keratin 30 Day treatment.

Has anyone used both of these products on natural hair? I currently have SheaMoisture's Dark Golden Blonde hair color in my head now. I dyed it about a month ago. I have never used a BKT before.

Please advise and suggest! Thanks!

Answer
Heat & chemicals are hair's worst enemies.

Chemicals can enter the body through the skin. BOTH causes cancer.

A year later the European Commission banned 36 hair dyes which put long-term users at risk of bladder cancer. < < < <â¨

Skin specialist Najjia Ashraf reveals that there are barely any dyes that donât contain this toxin; even the ones who claim they donât, are not being honest. âBig brands often escape the blame by suggesting they are ammonia-free. However, ammonia and PPD are two very different things and PPD is present in nearly every dye because it is what gives off the colour,â she explains.

Permanent black hair dye is linked to causing leukemia and lymphomas.

Hair straighteners are known as hair relaxers, keratin treatments and hair-smoothing products. They work by breaking and reforming the chemical bonds in keratin, which is the main protein that gives shape to each hair.

Google: keratin treatment warnings. About 2,620,000 results (0.36 seconds) 6-24-12.

The FDA has previously received complaints that the products cause adverse reactions, including nervous system problems such as headaches, respiratory tract problems, nausea, chest pain, vomiting and rashes.

Google: What Does Organic Mean for Beauty Products?

Hair-straightening products are allowed to contain small concentrations of formaldehyde (0.2 percent). But several hair-straightening solutions have been found to contain well above the allowable limit. For example, one popular hair-straightening product that advertised itself as âformaldehyde-freeâ actually contained 6.8 percent to 11.8 percent formaldehyde.
Another example: Fourteen women, including two from North Texas and one from Houston, are suing Unilever, the maker of a product they claim caused permanent damage to their hair.
"It transforms frizzy, unmanageable hair into hair that's sleeker and easier to style," said the commercial for the Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion 30-Day Smoothing Kit, which is no longer being sold
When she began looking online for more information about the product, she said she found some people who said it worked, but more who said it damaged their hair.
She discovered a Facebook page devoted to angry consumers, and there are multiple postings on YouTube. I've been warning people about relaxers since 2009 and people are giving me thumbs down!
BTW: A variety of hair-straightening products used in professional salons can expose both hairdressers and their customers to formaldehyde. The results show that three professional hair-smoothing treatments labeled "formaldehyde free" can produce the cancer-causing chemical at concentrations above the occupational exposure limits set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. They tested four products: Coppola Keratin Complex Blonde Formula, Global Keratin Juvexin Optimized Functional Keratin, La Brasiliana Escluso Keratin Treatment with Collagen, and Brazilian Blowout Acai Professional Smoothing Solution. While ChemRisk tested four popular brands of hair straighteners, THERE ARE HUNDREDS on the market. Nov. 11-11

By contrast, beauty salon owners and stylists generally lack a scientific background and don't have a keen awareness of the danger of working with products that contain formaldehyde, experts say.

Why are little Black girls the only ones who have a distinct look?

A little M

Little Black girls have hairstyles that older Black women never wear, and they have barrets in their hair and things like that, but other races of girls seem to have the same look as older people For instance, I see a lot of non Black moms who think it's cute to put their daughters in "trendy" looking clothes these days, but little Black girls still seem to wear little girl styles. Have you noticed this?

Little boys all tend to dress similar though.

Answer
I think it depends on where you live? Here I see little girls of all colors dressing trendy. I live in a big city.

I want to go to Sallys tomorrow and buy a hair color developer because I want my hair a lighter brown. I will probably get the 30. The thing is though, how do I use it? There is no tutorials on how to use it. I tried to dye my hair lighter brown yesterday but it didn't work because my hair is so dark. And it has been dyed black before. But do I buy hair dye and mix it with the developer? How much do I use? Help me please! I wanna do this right. Thanks! xx

Answer
OK the deal with developer is that you want to use equal parts. Most hair color tubes are 2 oz. so you would want to add 2 oz of developer to the color. If you use 2 tubes of hair color then you would add 4 oz of developer to the color. But ALWAYS read the instructions because there are some times when you may have to mix the developer a little differently but in general most of the time its equal parts.
Now when you go to Sally's tomorrow check out their L'Oreal Excellence collection - that is formaulated for people with darker hair. This is a safer way to lift your hair and get the color you desire. You can read about it on Sally's website I'll put the link for you in the source box.

Can hair color and developer be saved for later use?

Q. I want to die my hair, but won't need the entire bottle of the hair color and developer once mixed. Can the leftover amount be saved for later use since it will be mixed?

Answer
no and it actually tells you that on the box and leaflet inside

How do I get the green out of my hair from using a "ash"color hair rinse.?

ready2004

I have ebony relaxed hair. I use bold beautiful hair color (rinse) light ash brown to cover my gray hair. I accidentally used dark ash brown which left my hair color too dark. I then used the light ash brown which turn my hair green. Can anyone tell me how to get the geen out without damaging my hair any further.

Answer
Toner alone (without developer) won't damage it any further. It will layer more color on, and you need to be under a dryer for 10 minutes for it to saturate the hair shaft. To get the green neutralized, you may have to use a red/golden base toner.

You may need to see a professional.

How would i introduce a vintage look for myself?

trendy hair colors for black women
on Two Toned Hair Color Ideas for Black Women
trendy hair colors for black women image

Camera-gir

I am tired of being 'normal' (fashion wise anyway) i really like the Vintage look, i have a few vintage pieces. What are some staple vintage items to get started on my new look?

Answer
Vintage looks consist of basic, well fitted pieces in traditional colors and modest coverage. Try some fabrics like tweed, wool, corduroy, and cotton. A basic button down oxford shirt or a soft sweater set in cashmere would look great with a knee length pencil skirt or thin wool pants. A pretty cotton skirt with a floral or polka dot pattern looks nice too. And you can't go wrong with a classic looking sundress with a sweater over your shoulders. Shoes should be genuine leather. Try a nude or black leather heel or a basic brown loafer. Try to avoid synthetic fabrics as these are more modern looking. It's essential to incorporate some feminine items that will personalize your look like a pretty strand of pearls, interesting broaches or a gold locket. Try to wear your hair in simple, pretty styles and avoid things like "messy buns" or "beach waves". Soft curls are a classic look for women. On a windy day wear a pretty silk scarf over your hair to hold it back or wear your hair in a clean looking bun. You can always add a pretty jeweled pin as an accent.

Try a simple tan trenchcoat that is good quality and well fitted. And don't do the oversized, slouchy bags. Carry a medium sized leather purse or a simple clutch. In the evening, you can carry a gold clutch.

Keep makeup simple - red or soft pink lips, black eyeliner and black mascara, powder and a rosy blush. Nothing with glitter or shimmer and no eyeshadow. And avoid the tanning bed!

The reason "vintage" styles have never gone away is because they give the look of high quality and class. The clothes are always well-fitted and tailored, look modest, but still feminine and beautiful, and incorporate classic pieces in fabrics that don't look too trendy or "now".

Great stores to shop at are J. Crew, Macy's, Belk. But you can find these kind of pieces anywhere. I wouldn't spend to much time at a thrift store unless it's a higher end one. Most of them carry nothing but junk.

Have fun and hope this helps :)

What should you say on the phone to a job you applied for to see about your application?

hola :]

I applied for a job and I want to see what's going on, but I'm not really sure what to say when I call.

Answer
Persistence and etiquette go a long way in applying for a job.
Give a call and ask to speak to the Human Resource manager or the office manager or owner depending on the type of business.
Be sure to get their name and correct spelling.
If they are unavailable ask as to when they would be.
It is not always advisable to tell the person who you are and the nature of your call because they may be what is referred to as a gate keeper, meaning their job is to screen what is and isn't important and they can be very subjective in their view.
Ask the person in charge if they have received your application and if everything was in order or is there additional information they need.
Inquire as to what the time frame is as to when they plan to finalize a decision.
Tell the person you are looking forward to setting up an interview and thank them for their time.
If you do not have their correct street address and spelling of the name for the person with whom you spoke call back and ask it of the person answering the phone, and or check on line.
Write out a simple thank you card- (you can even pick up packs at a Dollar store or for a few bucks at a retailer)
Your note should read
Dear Mr/Mrs_______
Thank you for taking my call on date_____
It was a pleasure speaking with you.
I look forward to meeting you in person when we schedule an interview.
Sincerely
Name______
Telephone #_________
Email____________
Not those exact words are necessary but a polished cool professional approach.
After your interview be sure to send a second thank you.
Dear________
It was a pleasure meeting you.
I am looking forward to the opportunity of working with Company name______________, and know I would be an asset to you.
Thank you for taking the time to review my application/resume as well as the interview.
Sincerely
Name________
Phone#_________
Email__________________
All ways be sure to be polite.
Hold yourself confidently in your body posture, not cocky but assured of yourself.
(Smile, have good eye contact, shake the persons hand, sit up in the chair, speak in clear complete sentences, no snorts, eye rolls or âya sureâ, no ticks like tapping, shaking a foot, etc)
Dress professionally.
A clean ironed solid color button down shirt is preferred with a clean properly fitting pair of pants. This works for both men and women in most setting.
Anything baggy, dragging the ground, ripped, see through, to short, showing skin and tattoos is out.
No thong underwear or ones that have a panty line or show though (donât go without underwear though) or bras that create lines and bulges.
No cloths that are being held together by safety pins, tape or unmatched thread.
If the pants donât stay around your waist with the shirt tucked in then donât wear them.
Women can wear the tail of their shirt out if it is presentable.
A simple belt is fine but nothing drastic, like studs and skulls, with chains hanging.
Keep make- up simple and light. Jewelry to a minimum.
Any piercing other then an ear should be taken out.
Hair neat and clean- no spikes, colors or greasy gels.
Shoes should be clean and in good shape- shoe polish can do a lot to dress up worn shoes.
A darker shoe like black or brown is best and not real trendy and chunky.
For a woman a hand bag that is small to medium matching her out fit or black, brown or tan in a simple design is best.
No Gum.
Be sure you have eaten before you go, have brushed your teeth, and have mints in your pocket.
If these clothing choices are not in your closet get them. You can find them even at thrift stores which won't kill your pocket book.
It is best to have two shirts in case you get called back for a second interview.
A rule of thumb is wear the lighter color of shirt first, color can intimidate or give the wrong first impression in an interview.
These may sound silly or simple, but there a lot people passed over for these simple reasons.
Carry a pen and a copy of your resume. If you do not have a resume create one. There are a number of simple templates on line check around like schools and job centers for free help in creating resumes.

I dyed my hair black a really long time ago & I just want a change.
I am a very "do it yourself" girl, so that's why I have always used drugstore hair color.
I'm just looking for the best one that can actually change my colored black hair to maybe like a dark brown or lighter...I just want to get rid of this hair color.
Any suggestions as to what brand of drugstore hair color I can use on my black dyed hair would be lovely & greatly appreciated!

Should I use volume 20 or 30 for my hair?

Ash06

I usually color my hair with a garnier fructis blonde color. My hair just gets brown/brassy/orangey. It does get lighter though. I want a Nicole Richie blonde. Should I mix 20 or 30 volume to the hair color, and should I buy beauty supply hair color instead of drugstore brand?? Thanks.

Answer
When it comes to developer, the higher the number, the higher the lift. That means, the color that's being lifted out of your hair. For example... someone with medium to light brown hair, dyeing to a dark to light blond, would probably only need a 20. Someone with light to medium blond trying to dye to a medium brown, would need 20. Someone with dark brown to black hair dyeing to light brown would need 30, maybe 40. But... the developer strength doesn't do much for already dyed hair, I'm only referring to natural colors being dyed to another color. That being said... what color is your natural color? And what color are you trying to achieve? And, how many shades difference are we talking here? If it's a 1 to 2 shade difference you're fine with a 20 or even store box dye (most box dyes contain 20 developer). If you're still confused, go to your local beauty supply store and ask an employee what they would recommend... if the difference you're trying for is more than 3 shades away from what you have you might have to use a bleaching kit or color stripper, then your color, then a toner.

It's always dry, a bit tangled, and just gross. today after getting a haircut, I was wondering what products I can use to get the salon style hair that you get in your hair when you come back. You know- your hair is smooth, smells good, and you can run your fingers through it kind of hair. Also, how do you use these products so that you'll get this kind of hair?

Answer
moroccan oil proucts are amazing! they make your hair feel and smell so good and blowdrying your hair with a round brush and straightening it intensifies the softness and makes it silky :)
