Marilyn Monroe Hairstyle?

I heart MH

Hello Everybody!!

I have been told by many people that I look exactly like marilyn monroe (ie facial/body features) - although i have goldy/brunette hair.

My hair is curly/wavy (depends on weather), and it is about 2" past my shoulder in length. It is very lightly layered in the bottom. And i am half italian (and half danish), so i have very pale skin, and VERY thick hair (but i think i am lucky, as i think it is really beautiful!)

I am in grade 10 at school, and have my semi formal in about 2 months. When i finish school i am going to cut, style and dye my hair to be like marilyn's. But for my semi, i wish to grow my hair as long as possible.

I am using all-natural home-made camomile shampoo which makes my hair grow faster than normal, and emphasises the blondeness in my hair.

i would like to know how to use hot rollers, or a hair straightener (brand - GHD :)), to style my long hair like marilyn monroe's.

Please give me step by step instructions.

Thankyou :)

Answer
Ooh great question! I do burlesque performances so I'm loving the 50's set. So much classier than straw like straight hair. So, if you want a perfect copy of marilyns do i would go to a hairdresser. But if you wanna have a go at home:
Put your GHD at the back of the cupboard.
Buy a set of heated rollers, with all different sizes and prefereably flocked (with velvety stuff all over - makes your set hair shiny!). Let them heat up until they are really hot!
Blow dry your hair with your head upside down so your roots are 'boofy'.
Run masses of product through your hair - try a few different ones before the big night. I went through about 10 before I found a combo I like. And you don't have to spend more than $15 on a hair product that is just plain stupidity when there are people in the world starving. I use a $5 moulding paste for guys and a $4 laquer together.
Divide your starting from the crown to the back, twist up with pins in the meantime. Takes practice! If you have thick hair I'd say 12-18 sections ought to do it.
Comb a peice of hair out straight, above or to the side of your head, put the roller about 5 cm from the end, roll the end over and tuck neatly under the other hair, then roll up (under and towards the back of your head for ones at the side, over and back for ones on your crown and top, and under and to the front of your head for ones at the back, if you get what I mean!). Pin and clip with the clips that came with your rollers.
Leave for 15 min, blast with a hair dryer (yes, you'll feel stupid blowdrying clips, it's the next best thing we've got to those mad heated caps hairdressers have), leave for another 10. Take out very carefully (helps to have another person help you). Spray each tendril with hair spray, turn you hair upside down, separate the curls with the tail of a tail comb (not too much, usually in half does it).
Turn your head back the right way and see if a part settles. If it doesn't, just pull some hair at your crown over, 'boof' it up and pin. Pearl pins would be super pretty with your blonde hair. More hairspray. (notice the pattern here?!)
Voila! Silver screen vixen!
Takes lots of patience and practise but well worth it! Good luck!

How do I do a 50's hairstyle if I have long hair?

Andrea

My friend is having a 50's themed party but my hair is like half way down my back and all the hairstyles I can find are for short hair.

Answer
I have hair down to my knees, and I've done SHORT HAIR STYLES on mine, by the use of claw clips and bobby pins, to look like BOB LENGTH.

Google 50's hairstyles for long hair. http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=50s+hairstyles+for+long+hair&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

Sure anything can be done, just be creative about it. Set your hair first to help manipulate hair better.

If you want curly hair, (or straight hair to tame your curly hair) look @ videos or hairstyles of women in the late 40's or 50's, and see how healthy & silky their curly hair was. Have you seen Miracle on 34th Street? Many women then wore hats, and pin-curled or plastic curlers curled HAIRSTYLES. The men too, have very shiny hair like the women . . .that was before Bumble & Bumble's production 70's, John Frieda's production 1988 or the invention of heating tools.

People slept with their curlers on, or sit in the beauty salon for 20 mins. under a helmet of hair dryer.

Curlers comes in small, medium, large curlers.
Small if you want tighter curls, shorter hair.
Medium: medium curls, medium length hair.
Large: longer hair, larger curls.

"smaller section of hair you use the tighter/bouncier the curl, and the longer bigger section you use the bigger the wave or loose the curl. "

Start your curlers, where you want the curls to begin.

You can also pin curls your hair, if they're short to medium. You can also braid your hair the night before, after they've been wash, all night and sleep with them, and take the braids out in the morning. Finger comb to style. Use scarf to keep them from the wind.

HEAT PROTECTION, does not protect hair 100%. Like using sunscreen, you still get sunburned. Same with hair. Hair products are not made of glue to fix, prevent, reverse hair from getting damaged or hair loss, they ARE A TRILLION DOLLAR BUSINESS, and the hair industry also do not give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss caused by heat & chemicals.

I like your hair color and I think you look innocent. But black hair will create a little witchyness. Try going redder. Like this.

should i dye my hair blonde?

This is the color I was planning on getting it dyed to (Elle Fanning). I have naturally ash blonde hair. My skin is cool, and very pale/fair. My eye color is hazel (greenish brownish hazel.) My hair ends under my shoulders. Would this color suit me? or would it wash me out?
http://www.thehairstyler.com/hairstyles/casual/long/straight/elle-fanning?ref=celebrities

Answer
So the picture of Elle fanning's hair is a little on the gold side, but it's not super warm. I would go for it. If it ends up being too yellow for your skin tone, then you can use a purple toner on wet hair to cool it.

Can you shampoo hair after coloring?

Stephanie

With a color safe shampoo and conditioner?

Answer
Did you used a box kit hair dye? It already comes with shampoo & conditioner.

Sun can fade color-treated hair (invest on a good wide brim hat), chlorine is blue, blonde is yellow, chlorine coats the hair, leaving it green, wear a bathing cap and rinsing your hair right after swimming. Hair products are killers on colored hair deep conditioning the hair once a week to retain moisture. But avoid products with keratin because that can actually harm the hair color. Volumizing products and clarifying shampoos can be too cleansing and can strip the hair of color. Brazilian and Japanese relaxers also limit what you can do with color because they really change the condition of your hair. Don't use Head and Shoulders, Pantene or Suave because of the build-up they can leave and the color-stripping they can do. - InStyle

whats a good color treated hair shampoo ?

KeLseYMaCp

i have died my hair atleast 5 times already .
and i need a good shampoo .
My hair is naturally straight , and i do have an oily scalp .
so i wash my hair alot.
& i do have some problems with my hair being flat & heavy like its greasy , when its not any suggestions there ?
i also want my hair to be super shiny to :)
lol . thanks guys :D

Answer
Your hair sounds EXACTLY like my hair...and I have dyed it just as many times. I always want my hair to be super shiny as well =)

Every time I dye my hair, I try to find a shampoo that will keep the red. Apparently it is the hardest color to maintain. Hairdressers and friends have recommended several brands of shampoo that I have tried over the years--all for color-treated hair. Unfortunately, I spent a lot of wasted money on expensive shampoos when I should have stuck with the brand I trusted before I dyed my hair. Dove. I buy the shampoo for darkened hair, and it does exactly what I want it to do. The color lasts a long time. My hair is soft and shiny, but never greasy. It is fairly cheap and found pretty much anywhere. Hope this helps!

Can Keracare be good for my hair?

charismati

I'm black and I have long natural hair where I usually wash treatment/ condition if I need it and blow dry and flat iron my hair and my hair stylist use Salon exclusive. Now that I am away in college (FAMU/Florida A&M University) it's hard to find a good stylist that does the same things my hair stylist does so far I had a hair comp in two places and they use keracare and they can't use salon exclusive and they say keracare is a natural hair care line and I'll be fine I'm a bit skeptic cause I don't want my hair to be cut, shaved or have chemicals in it or wear fake hair I want it to be long, thick, natural, healthy like it already is I don't want it to be messed up.
I went to one salon near my school and they said they'll do it for $80 I went to rattlers edge the salon in my school they said they'll do it for $70 but IDK I'm thinking about catching a bus from Tallahassee to Orlando so my old hair stylist can keep doing my hair every two weeks.

Answer
"they say keracare is a natural hair care "

In the beauty industry, there is no industry-agreed meaning for terms like 'organic' or 'natural'. Unlike the food industry, these terms are not regulated for cosmetics which means companies can use these terms pretty freely.
Also, products like shampoo, conditioner and body wash are mostly made of water so therefore are mostly natural (because water is natural, right?). So if a shampoo is 90% water, then a company can simply claim "90% organic or natural" and be telling the truth. Certainly, this isn't in the spirit of what people believe organic to mean, but it is within the law.

Don't believe the hype: "For skin care products, 'organic is not enough,. Some organic products are fabulous, and some are not." ~ Dr. Lisa Chipps , M.D. specializes in removing skin cancer & repairing the resultant wound (laser therapy whiz) in Rodeo Drive.

Heat & chemicals are hair's worst enemies. If you want curly hair, (or straight hair to tame your curly hair) look @ videos or hairstyles of women in the late 40's or 50's, and see how healthy & silky their curly hair was. Have you seen Miracle on 34th Street or Downton Abbey? Their hair wasn't styled by professional hairstylists. They were styled by maids. No hair oil, no serum, no hair sprays, and no gels with just the use of shampoo & conditioner. Many countries didn't even have bottled shampoo & conditioner, example in my country, all we've ever used was a bar of soap for our bodies, hair & laundry. I did that for 13 years, even though my hair was permed, but there was no frizzy, no drying and my hair was the same as today: silky, shiny, soft, smooth it IS HOW they are styled when they're wet, and no hair dryer (for 13 years I lived in Asia). Many women then had long hair, curly hair and they wore hats, and pin-curled or plastic curlers curled HAIRSTYLES. The men too, have very shiny hair like the women, although the men used pomade . . .that was before Bumble & Bumble's production 70's, John Frieda's production 1988 or the invention of heating tools. "SleekHair.com was established in 1997 to offer the world of beauty products at the ease of your finger tips. Our company began with the opening of our first retail store in 1992." There were MILLIONS OF PEOPLE with beautiful hair before then, too!

Another way to find the secret to beautiful hair? Find someone with beautiful healthy curls or straight hair and ask him or her to share secrets, preferably someone who is 40-60 years older than YOU.

What ruined people's hair was the use of heat & chemicals SPECIALLY RELAXERS for Afri-Amer hair, which contain formaldehyde causing cancer.

Watch: Good Hair - Documentary by Chris Rock 2009. or Tyra Banks What is Good Hair. Black women spend 80% of all hair products. She's got good advice!

The biggest savings you will find in bath and beauty is on shampoo. According to Consumer Reports, spending money on expensive shampoos does not improve hair any better than cheap store-brand shampoos. The only noticeable difference is in how the more expensive shampoos smell richer than cheap brands.
A good way to save money is by buying the less expensive shampoos and spend money on a good conditioner. Conditioners vary more in ingredients and the difference of using salon conditioners versus the dollar store conditioners is noticeable on hair.

Itâs the dirty little secret shampoo companies donât want you to knowâwhen you wash your hair with one of those nutrient-rich shampoos, most of the nutrients and active ingredients in the product donât actually end up in your hair, they wind up down the drain⦠along with all the money you spent on the shampoo.
Why does this happen? Because the shampoo molecules they contain are too large to penetrate the cells of hair and more importantly the tiny hair follicles where our hair actually grows. They sit atop the follicle until we wash them away.
Why is that a problem?
Our hair works basically the same wayâif you want to treat your hair right, you need to treat the roots.

It is HOW you use to style your hair or what styling tools that damage the hair, and what chemicals you're adding to the hair, not the shampoo or conditioner.

What's an example of a clear clarifying shampoo?

xGlitterx

Answer
Google search: CLARIFYING SHAMPOO. About 648,000 results (0.17 seconds)
Add clear before it. About 308,000 results (0.29 seconds)

Remember this: hair products are not made of glue to fix, prevent, reverse hair from getting damaged or hair loss. They are a trillion dollar business, and they also do NOT GIVE money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss caused by heat & chemicals = hair's worst enemies.

Short hairstyles for round faces?

Swooshie

I have a long choppy bob but I'm sick of it. I want really short hair! Any suggestions?

Answer
Wearing your hair short
Wearing short hair when you have a round face depends on the right haircut, layered bangs add a new look, while avoiding a bob because this style works best with a different face shape.

Having a oval face is flattering with the right hair style, the use of gentle waves in your hair texture especially the sections that frame your face should have the right ends and texture, straight edgy cuts are not as flattering.

Cindy should know she was having difficulty finding the right hairstyle for her face since her hairdresser told her that her face was round.

If she wanted to wear the new hip hot and trendy short hairstyles she would have to follow a few rules first.

It was not something cindy had thought of before, now why would it be an issue now, maybe it was because of the fact she had worn her hair long for most of her life.Hair photos for round shaped faces
Some of the best hairstyle photos for round shaped faces include those with celebrities who have the same issue but work around it with a great hairstylist.

Katie Holmes angled bob works well with long bangs and it gives a style of sophistication and a well thinning look.

Longer hair on the sides can be accentuated with short hair in the back of the neck, hide your round face with long tapered waves on the side next to your chin for the best look.

Celebrity Hair Tips
Lisa Rinna is another celebrity with a round face and she has used the varied lengths of layers to detract from her face shape and lead the eye out to her fabulous hair cut.

Bobby pins can be added at the ends of the hair at night to get your hair to lay flat.

Center parts are another thing to avoid these types of styles make your cheeks look wider and that is not what you want at all. While layers elongate or framing the face, straight blunt cuts do not.

Long Hair on Round Faces
Long hair can be worn up or down, loose or curled and it pretty much kept her round face hidden. Things change and Cindy wants to cut all of her hair off, a new makeover and wear short hair.

If you are like cindy and want to know if a short hairstyle will work for you her is the advice that I like to give those who are trying to decide.

Its all about having the best cut. Flat hair and curly hairstyles can make your face look rounder.

Creating volume in your hair tips
Your first priority is to create less volume around your face when choosing a flattering hairstyle.

So look for styles that hang just below they chin area and make sure the hair is layered, the more layers your hair has the slimmer your face will appear.

Sideswept bangs and tapered ends work best with giving you a less round look to your overall beauty makeover.

Can I learn how to style my own hair at home if I have a round face?
If you are looking for some do it yourself hairstyling tips the best place to find them will be at about.com or even ehow.com

How to videos show you how to style your hair no matter what shape your face is.

See it is all about finding the right hairstyle that will bring out your best features and it always starts with the cut.

Picking a haircolor
Once you know what cut you will need then its time to pick the right hair color.

This is done then its time to decide on the texture if it will be smoothe, straight, wavy or curly.

Then you will want to add the right highlights and hair accessories for a finished look, styling tools also is a must.

Heating styling tools
Some flat irons or curling irons may damage your hair so its important to get the right tools.

Use the correct combs and brushes for added salon looking hair even if you do it yourself at home.

Round Haircut getting the look
How to be up-to-date with the latest in hair design you can choose from a variety of looks no matter what color your tresses are.

Some of the new looks for the year with the round hair cut you will need a stylist who knows how to cut the hair all one length in a circular motion.

Most of these types of styles are for those men and women who like to wear their hair short on top with full bangs and trimmed on the sides above the ears.

The hair in the back of the neck is usually tapered and cut so that it has a round shape and goes with the overall haircut.

No matter if it is long layers and short sides you will have to keep the ends trimmed on a regular basis.

This can take having a professional stylist who know how to flatter your facial features.

Tips on achieving the trendy uneven hair which can look choppy at times is that you get it cut one time.

After that as the hair grows out you can blow dry it straight and then use hair mold or spray to kee

i want a japanese rock star haircut, or basically, sumthing trendy lolz

i have had this kinda hairstyle since i was 7, as my dad cuts my hair, and i want a change, so im gonna get my hair cut elsewhere.

i have looked at visual kei hairstyles, and they seem to be too extreme, but i then saw some j-rock bands had more 'casual' hair, and i wondered which would suit me, so pls help this poor deprived child!

yours,

langsta
also, if dyed, wat colour would fit?
also, this hair looks cool, would it suit me?

Answer
be careful with dye, a lot of japanese do serious damage to their hair with the bleaching process. And because of the dark tone of your hair, to get any color OTHER than black, you're gonna have to bleach.

I think before you cut, you should play with product. you have a very simple cut, but it has great potential! A lil wax or gel, to spike it up would be fun. You could probably faux-hawk it up fairly easy as well.

i suggest, going to a local salon (somewhere where you dont see 40+ year old women hangin out) and ask for a consult with a stylist (someone young and hip) Tell them you want something trendy, but dont know what your options are. They can show you all kinds of products and techniques to make your look unique.

good luck... and remember, its just hair... if you mess it up, it grows back!

Google Salon Hair Dye Lawsuits. About 336,000 results (0.17 seconds) Dec. 2011
When it comes to hair care treatments, product use or visits to a salon or spa, the consumer must take responsibility to do their homework and be aware of all the risks involved.
Vanessa Minnillo Lachey: "I dated a guy once who wanted me to have blonde hair. Clearly, he was the wrong guy for me! I went to a lady who bleached my hair and it literally fell out. So, not only did I go back to my natural hair, I broke up with the guy!"

Style meets chemistry meets biology: We're talking hair coloring.

Playing with chemicals is not like playing with clothes, or doing a manicure, there are penalties for playing chemicals in the lab. Even hair color experts at the salon are not rocket scientists, they do a bang up dye jobs to their clients or their own hair.

Chemicals can enter the body through the skin.
> > > Hair dye chemicals linked to cancer
London, Feb 20, 2013 I've been saying that since 2009.
Hair dyes, which include home hair colouring kits and those used at pricey salons, are linked to deadly cancer-causing chemicals, warn scientists. In 2009 the Mail revealed that women who used hair dyes more than nine times a year had a 60% greater risk of contracting blood cancer.
A year later the European Commission banned 22 hair dyes which put long-term users at risk of bladder cancer. < < < <

Google: January Jones: "My Hair Is Falling Out In Clumps" 1-28-13 To quote Joni Mitchell, "you don't know what you got till your thick hair is gone."

Google: Teen 'feared she would die' after reaction to hair dye
The allergic reaction was caused by a well-known brand of semi-permanent hair dye Chloe used to turn her hair black for a Halloweâen party. . . . . called for beauty bosses to ban hair dye chemical PPD (para-phenylenediamine) from the shelves. 11-04-11

The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. Itâs made from coal tar and is used in both permanent and semi-permanent hair colours. Itâs well-known to be a cause of serious allergic reactions -- including something called contact dermatitis which can lead to rashes, blisters, and open sores.
PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time.

What hair coloring brand is safest for my hair?

mcel.

I really like dying my hair, but I don't want to put it through too much damage! What brands use the least amount of ammonia and other chemicals? I use permanent dyes.. please do not tell me that semi-permanent products use less chemicals

Answer
no hair color is safe for your hair.... but if you insist on changing your color use a product that has very low ammonia try to stay as close as possible to your natural color and only lighten it slightly make it look more sun kissed then anything. dramatic changes are the worst. you have to consider that if you go from a dark brown/ black like my color to a light blond then you are taking all the color layering out of your hair and if you are not happy with the color then all those colors have to be readded prior to your natural color being re deposited

Hair salon in San Diego?

Q. I recently moved to San Diego, and I do not know my way around at all.
I really need my hair cut and I would like to color it as well.

I have had bad luck with salons in the past.
Does anyone know of a good salon in San Diego that is not too expensive? I know the better ones tend to cost a lot, and I do not have a lot of money.

I love Fringe in the Hillcrest area.

Hair Extension question?

honeypunki

I want to get glue in extensions for my hair. But my hair is two different colors. The underneath is blonde and the top is brown. Should I just dye my whole head one color? I feel like the extensions are gunna look weird if the blonde is all long and brown is short. >.<

Answer
Getting extensions are not that easy, like buying shoes. AND if you have problem styling your own hair, add hair extensions to the formula, it will be even harder to style when you have them.

People waste tons of money on extensions because it's the new trend. Without doing much research. Then, they come to YA HAIR and ask us questions on how to clip it on their hair, if they can go swimming, play sports, if they can dye or perm, etc. Do you think you'll have time for school, trying to put on hair extensions over 1 hour every morning? Then, they ruin it by dyeing to match their hair.
If you live in NYC, Chicago, Atlanta, Texas or San Diego and you wear hair extensions made by Remy, it COULD have been from a stolen beauty store and are sold for much more! It's also possible they're being sold ONLINE.
It's really not that simple! Then again, it will not work out if you have thin hair, the clip will be showing through! How embarrassing will that be, if it keeps falling out from your head, if it's not on right!?!
May 22, 2011: Model and businesswoman Katie Price, who was formerly topless model Jordan, is demanding compensation from a top Los Angeles hair salon after she spent $17,000 on hair colourings and extensions that she claims were botched, leaving her hair so damaged it began falling out.

Kate Gosselin got hers from a salon, and she was on the front cover of People magazine, but she HATED her hair!!!! Access Hollywood. She paid $7,000 for hers. Took 7 hours.

At the salon: 25-50 ($50-$100) extensions, they also have hidden costs, like monthly maintenance fees, one girl charge YA poster $248 more saying the salon put 120 extensions on her head, but she only counted 60. They are very charming!
Google Britney Spear's hair extensions. July 21, 2010.
Jessica Simpson & Paris Hilton don't even use their own hair extensions, plus they have stylists to do them in photo shoots or travel with them. Jessica was photographed, showing her clip-ons during a windy day.

EXAMPLES OF WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT their HAIR EXTENSIONS
well on friday i got synthetic extensions, and they dont curl very well, so i was wondering if i plaited them and left them over night would they go crinkly and mix in with my real hair
because theyre fake i dont know if i can actually style them very well, which is annoying!
+they are starting too get ratty, any tips on how to take care of them ?
thanks!

One more ex:
I removed my hair extensions yesterday after 4 months. My hair is really thin does any1 no any good products to thicken it?

And another ex:
i bought 100 dollars clip in 100% human hair extensions and it hurts and pulls my hair. u shud just wait til it grows out. my hair was real short and i wanted extensions real bad and now i feel bad wasting 100 bucks on that where i cud of spent it on clothes or sumother beauty thing. ur not going to wear them after a while cuz u get annoyed having to keep clipping them in and all or whateever kind of extensions ur getting.

This one says it all:
i have had hair extensions done in a hairdressers in melton mowbray 3weeks ago. i have been told they are 100% real hair but they look terrible,it looks like i have been back-combing it. if i curl them it just goes frizzy and if i straighten them it also goes very frizzy with the back-coming look. i have bought all the products that was advised and i have looked after them the way i was told to. i have had hair extensions before and they were lovely, i had no problems. i have been back 2 times to the hairdressers for help and advise and i was told that the hair is rubbing on my shoulders which is giving the back-combing look (my shoulders are not that big). i am now asking for my money back and the hair taken out but they are refusing. i have spoke to the hairdressing federation and they told me to call trading standards, they said to get them tested but i do not know where to send them. thanks for any help.

GLUE IN EXTENSIONS DAMAGING TO HAIR?
Example taken from YA HAIR - thinning hair
My natural hair was just past my shoulders. I had 16 inch glue in extensions put in and kept them for about 3 weeks. I took them out two days ago, and not only does my scalp still hurt (it feels as if I ripped out pieces of my natural hair...), but my hair is also SIGNIFICANTLY thinned and slightly shorter. I've done some research and I've found that glue in extensions can do this to your natural hair. Aside from constantly wearing my clip in extensions...what can I do to restore my natural hair back to it's original thickness? Is there anything else I can do?

what should 14 year old boys hair style be?

Jimbo

im a 14 year old and im 'oriental' what hairstyle would suit me, be specific and please give me examples thanks

Answer
Among the appropriate haircut styles for most fourteen year old boys in the summer would be a regular layer or taper cut- about three inches on top, brushed to the side and mostly off the forehead, ivy league(long crew cut), crew cut or flat top crew cut.
regular layer cut, before; short crew cut, after:
http://books.google.com/books?id=gEwEAAAAMBAJ&lpg=PP1&pg=PA46#v=onepage&q&f=false
ivy league(long crew cut) :
http://www.gstatic.com/hostedimg/9ebcfb16c33e10c7_large
Some barbers describe an ivy league as a crew cut just long enough to be parted and combed to the side, if so desired. An ivy league is usually worn with the hair brushed up off the forehead to form a short pomp front, and can also be worn with the short bangs brushed down on the forehead like a forward brush cut.
medium crew cut:
http://books.google.com/books?id=XFQEAAAAMBAJ&lpg=PP1&pg=PT1#v=onepage&q&f=false
http://books.google.com/books?id=x0EEAAAAMBAJ&lpg=PP1&rview=1&pg=PA44#v=onepage&q&f=false
A barber with a good aesthetic sense can usually design a short pomp style to fully suit most guy's head shape, face and neck shape, frontal hairline and facial features. Try an ivy league and then if you want to go shorter, go for progressively shorter crew cuts.
Edge: tapered or outlined
http://www.gstatic.com/hostedimg/9655e4d21019bc04_large
[crew cut above illustrates an outlined edge around the ear arches and an edge tapered to the skin at the nape of the neck. His crew cut is about 1.4" at the front hairline; 0.35" at the back of the crown; #1.5 blade around the ear arches and sideburns; #000 blade at the edge of hair growth at the nape of the neck.]
To know the approximate length of a hair in a photo of a particular style: measure the face length in the photo from the center of the front hairline to the tip of the chin; measure the hair in the photo; assume an average eight inch adult male face length; proportionally adjust the lengths of the face and hair in the photo by assuming the length of the face in the photo is eight inches.
To grow out a short summer style and have a nice looking style as it grows out and assuming an average rate of hair growth of 1/8" per week and haircuts every three weeks: short crew cut; medium crew cut; short ivy league; ivy league; long ivy league; regular taper cut. At this point there will be around three inches on top and the back and sides can start to grow over the ears and collar with haircuts every six to nine weeks to add shape and even up new growth.
A control wax will keep the hair looking well groomed at crew cut and ivy league length. A butch comb also helps- the small, flat, plastic, oval, pocket brushes that one finger fits through and barbers sell for about a dollar. A boar's bristle military brush is available for a few dollars and is nice to have at home.
Clippers, Blades and Guards:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Crew_cut#Clippers.2C_Blades_and_Guards
Basic short cuts:

http://i51.tinypic.com/2958em9.jpg
http://www.yalealumnimagazine.com/issues/02_04/old_yale.html
Grooming any of the short pomp(pompadour) styles- crew cut, ivy league, flat top crew cut- is basically the same and takes about a minute or two.
1) Towel dry hair.
2) Barely dip fingertips in jar of wax.
3)Transfer wax to palms.
4) Smooth palms over hair.
5)Brush hair off forehead to form short pomp front.
Whichever style you decide on, be sure to take a photo to help describe the desired haircut to the barber. If you need photos of any of the styles discussed above let me know.
Good Luck!

Tell me different hair styles adopting for boys?

Usually boys have short hair I thought there is not more hair styles than girls.. Tell me some of the hair styles which newly introduce in this 2009 yearâ¦

Answer
For young boys, hairstyles are usually not an issue until they turn 13 and are more socially aware of trends and what to fit in more. This makes the job of parents much easier as we can keep their hairstyles sweet and simple. Boys' hairstyles will usually range in three styles with some different variations. These are the crew cut or spike, the comb down, and the side sweep. Each boys hairstyle has its own looks depending on hair length and how the hair is styled.

Hairstyle for my face shape?

elish

I've always had trouble getting the right hairstyle.
I have this insecurity about myself in that i have a wide jaw bone which makes my face look wide and short at the same time. Therefore, hairstyles that i like does not suit me well. I long to have a narrower/ longer face which makes it easier in choosing the correct hairstyles. Anybody has any suggestions on what kinda hairstyle might suit my face shape?

Answer
I think the Best hairstyle for you is a short messy hair do. Even though your jaw bone is bigger and it makes your head look smaller, a short messy do length about to your ears is the right for you.

what hairstyles suit a long face?

Holly S

I have a big forehead, and i wear glasses, so i want to keep some type of fringe. My hair is shoulder-length, i'm growing it out after about 3 years of having short hair. What sort of styles will add width to my face, but keep some length in the process. I don't want really long hair, about arm-pit length is what i'm aiming for, but now ive started researching, all websites say never go past shoulder length.

does anybody know any type of hairstyle that suits a long face, with hair falling below shoulder length??

any advice greatly appreciated

Answer
as i a hairdresser i would always recommend the my clients don't grow the hair to long, i e past the shoulders as this can appear to drag the face down. if you really want it long its gonna have to be fairly big to add width. if its long and straight it will not work for you. a soft side fringe would b good keeping quite a bit of lengh to it so its got a soft sassy and most importantly sexy look about it. after all every woman deserves to feel great about there appearance and hair is always a good place to start. hope this helps you

Hairstyles ??????????????????????????????????????

Q. I don't know what to do for a hairstyle... I mean like, all I do for school is leave my hair down or curl it (I have straightened it, but doesn't work cuz my hair is already straight, and i don't have a crimper). I like Mileys Cyrus's hairstyle but don't know how to do it... Do you know how, and do you have any idea's for what I should with my hair... ???
Thanks!

Answer
Well you can scrunch your hair:
1.Take a shower 2. Blowdry hair 3. While your blowdrying it get mousse or gel and scrunch it. If you need more help with scrunching look on youtube(:
Another one is:
Leave your hair down but leave a couple TINY braids. Or what I like doing when I leave it down is curl some random hair but only a couple pieces, and do it naturaly dont put products in it.
More ;
1. Braids
OMG! I love this hairstyle I part my hair in two, then I brush it all and put heat protectant all over my hair(it makes it shine) but its optional. Then,I curl it. It looks realy cute(: & i get compliments.

Edgy hairstyle for 40 year old?

Violet

Please suggest an edgy edgy hairstyle/cut for a 'non-conforming' 40 year old lady. She currently has hair about 2 inches longer than shoulder length, all one length, very long side fringe, dyed fairly light golden blonde. She hates the classic 'bob' alot of women her age get, is not afraid of color (she changes the color of her hair often) and has a round face shape. Any ideas? THANKS x

I have black hair, brown eyes and light skin, what colors look good on me?

Greenglue

I have naturally midnight black hair. When I say midnight black, I mean really really really blue-black. I also have light skin that is sort of a pinkish color. I have brown eyes that change from nearly black to chesnut brown to a greenish brown to pure gold and everything in between all of those extremes, depending on the lighting, the weather, and my mood. What colors of clothing and makeup look good on me?
I'm a girl

Answer
The most important factor in choosing makeup colors is determining your skin tone. Here's how to determine your skin tone.

Warm skin tone:
1. Look at inner wrist - veins will appear green.
2. Gold jewelry is more flattering than silver jewelry.

Cool skin tone:
1. Look at inner wrist - veins will appear blue.
2. Silver jewelry is more flattering.

Look at your wardrobe and hold up a few items in different colors against your face. Which ones appear more flattering to you in a mirror with natural sunlight? Which colors are you drawn to?

If you are not sure, ask one or two trusted friends or family members who's style you admire.

This web page may be helpful. It has related sites listed at the bottom.

As for color palettes:

1. Earth colors are considered to be more neutral and natural
e.g. taupe or brown eyeshadow, soft blush (Nars Orgasm), lip colors that are like your own but with a little oomph (Revlon Lip Super Lustrous Gloss - Cherries in the Glow)

2. Jewel colors are considered to be more dramatic
e.g. blue or purple or green or shimmery eye shadows, black eyeliner, bold blush, deep burgundy or bright pink lip colors

You can choose from either palette as long as the tones are flattering.

Given your eye color I' recommend soft taupes, browns, and shimmery champagnes with a sheer deep red for a neutral look.

Blue shadows will contrast with the brown in your eyes and sheer soft pink lip tints would provide a more dramatic look.

I need a new look! Any Tips Products or Stores Appreciated!!!?

It'sMe

Hey all!!! So I'm in 8th grade, and my look is basicly t-shirts and medium wash jeans. I'd like to look more trendy, but also unique.

I am 5'3", and I have a hourglass figure (a little heavier on my lower half though, but not much)
My eyes change from blue to green, and they're this cool gold-ish color in the middle around my iris. Everyone says I have big eyes and I love my eyes. I have rosacea so my skin is red on my nose and cheeks, so I really need a good foundation. My hair is a very boring brown (I'm thinking of dyeing it a auburn color), medium length, really straight and fine. It has no volume at all, so I have to blowdry it upside down everyday (oh, the horror!).

Any tips, stores or products are appreciated! I'm trying to change my look over winter break, so I want to do something dramatic!

Answer

Answer
I honestly like your hairstyle the way it is now; it suits you. But if you're looking for other ones that fit youuuu.. you should look up hairstyles (pictures) and just see which one you prefer, then try it out!

But here are some styles that I found that, in my opinion, would look good on you as well.

Hair coloring---rinse & breakage?

Samaria3

Ok, so I'm getting my hair done this Friday. I just got it trimmed so it won't break off and so it will grow; I'm trying to grow my hair out. I want to color my hair, but I'm not getting a permanent dye because I know it will cause split ends. So I'm getting a rinse--- a non-permanent one. I just want to make sure that this will not have any effect on my hair after it's rinsed out: so, it won't cause any damage/breakage, right?

If this helps anyone, I'm mixed with black and white but my hair texture is more like a black persons, but it grows fast and is a bit finer than a typical black person.

Answer
First of all, I've been doing hair for a long time and there is no such thing as typical black people hair. our hair comes in all types and one type is not majority over other types. And no, a rinse will not hurt your hair at all. It is actually very good for the hair. I sometimes encourage my clients to put a clear rinse on even if they don't want color because it seals the cuticle of the hair and gives it a healthy shine.

hair color?

ghazal

i wanted to dye my hair black but it came out very pitch black and it looks very nasty, does anyone know anything i can put on my hair to make my color softer other than putting on more hair color.. Is there anything natural for making hair color soft?

Answer
Try putting a color rinse on your hair. If you don't know what it is, it is temporary color that is faint in the dark but can be "powerful" in the light and they work really well on dark hair and come in all kinds of colors from orange shades to blue black. It washes out gradually mine usually last about 2 months when I don't color my hair, and when I do color my hair the last months and they gradually lighten and change the dye color. But I suggest asking a stylist what color would be best for what color you want.
I had dyed red hair and my stylist told me to get it orange I had to put a burgundy rinse on it is what I mean.

Low volume hair(thin hair) and wide forehead men hairstyle?

Kelvin

Being a teenager, I'm conscious about my hairstyle. The problem is, I have a wide forehead and thin hair. Every time I make my hair sideways, I look like a nerd with a medium haircut, like a big head with a low volume hair. It looks like an alien.

Can you suggest any hairstyle to me? I want an asian one.
It would be nice if you provide an image. Thank you.

Addt'l info:
round face
I'm a man x__x

Answer
With the round face, the hairstyle should be cut to slim the face. Very short styles that follow the curve of the head (such as a butch, burr, or a short crew cut) will emphasize roundness and should be avoided. Leaving the hair a bit longer/fuller and adding texture on top will help lengthen the face. Beards should be styled to slim the face as well.

If you have a wide forehead, try parting your hair in middle. Those with prominent foreheads might try a close arrangement of hair over forehead; wearing the hair brushed upward can also make a tall forehead seem a little shorter.

Decisions about receding hairlines depend a lot on how far the line has receded! For those who are just beginning to lose their hair in the front of the head, wearing the hair in a caesar cut or an otherwise forward style can help minimize a receding hairline. However, if your hairline pattern has advanced quite a ways backward, wearing the hair forward begins to look awkward and should be avoided. Very closely cropped styles look very good on a markedly receding hairline, and many men at this stage of hair loss will opt for the bald or nearly bald look. You may also want to consider adding a close-clipped full beard, a circle beard, or a van dyck to offset a receding hairline. A circle beard or a van dyck can give the face balance if you are wearing a bald or nearly-bald style.

Hairline receding at 20 years old...?

Ben

I recently looked at my hair in the mirror a couple days ago, and was shocked to discover that not only was my hairline receding, but that it had receded pretty quickly. Based on the Norwood chart, I think it's Norwood III, but it would be a major relief to find out if it was just a "mature hairline". I'm starting to highly doubt this, sometimes based on the perspective it doesn't look so bad, but other times It's flabbergasting how much has been lost.

This balding surprised me primarily because of my age, since I'm only 20, and I thought at minimum this would be a problem at 25, and the fact that unless I pulled my hair back I never really notice. After doing some internet research, it seems that my situation is uncommon yet not unheard of. I've been dealing with some recent trauma and social anxiety plus depression, so I'm not sure if this truly contributes, but I am feeling a lot worse knowing that I'll be balding a lot earlier than most of my peers. When I'm nervous, I run my hands through the front of my hair, but I don't think this would cause baldness since it's supposed to just regrows back if it falls out. This is especially distressing considering my small frame, so I don't think I could pull off a shaved head.

I've looked into potential treatment, and correct me if I'm wrong but they seem to be a lot of effort for little payoff or possibly none whatsoever. The two drugs currently prescribed don't seem to help with temples, and they are apparently expensive and need to be taken forever. Will I be able to grow back what I lost or maintain what I have for a significant period of time if I take these drugs? Hair transplant seems to be another option, but I read a story in which a man's transplant all fell out and everyone could see the severe scarring everywhere on the head. I'm not clear how this works or how people manage to finance it. Is this a viable or reasonable option, or should I forget it?

Does diet and exercise also have an effect apparently? I've been trying both recently but since my discovery, my anxiety is becoming much more severe. I've read Zinc can help, and I've heard Camellia Oil too, but what seems to pop up most are the drugs. There's also another site I read claiming it's caused by too much estrogen, but it sounded like quackery...

What do you think? Thank you for your time.
Is it also really testosterone-based? I can't even fully grow a mustache yet, so the biological process confounds me a bit. I should also mention both my family sides' men have thin/bald hair, unfortunately as far as I know.

This is the site I think is strange, by the way. Claiming baldness is a byproduct of too much estrogen consumption (found in, say, soybeans, which I do consume and enjoy)
http://www.totalityofbeing.com/FramelessPages/Articles/real_reason_men_lose_hair.htm

Answer
I've looked at some of your pictured, but if you didn't say anything, I would have never known that your hairline receded. Recently, my brother has looked like his hairline was receding when he wore his hair a certain way but maybe it really is a maturing hairline. He's about the same age as you. My cousin went bald very young (about your age). He just shaved his head. He actually looks pretty good.
If you really want to find out, you should see your doctor or a dermatologist. I used to loose my hair in patches, all the spots recently grew back, but loosing hair is still never good. I found out that it was alopecia from my dermatologist. She gave me steroid creams to rub on the spots but I'm not sure how much that really helped. The hair falling out was triggered by stress because I have a low positive ANA. You can find out if this is the case by getting a blood test. This means that the stress triggers my body to attack the hair follicles because my body believes that it's foreign. The preventative measures that I take is maintaining a healthy diet, taking vitamins, and fish oil pills. I'm not entirely sure how I got it to grow back. I think it was a combination of trying to stay healthy, the steroid creams, and trying to take it easy.
This is just my problem, it might not be your problem. You should find out about your family history. It could just be the way your body is. I would recommend seeing a professional to get it straightened out.
