I have curly hair type. When I sleep with the back of my head on the pillow at night I wake up and the back of my hair is really dry and frizzy and it looks weird cuz the rest of my head is curly but the back is frizzy. How do I solve this issue? And I can't brush my hair because if I do it gets really dry and frizzy. I do comb my hair though when its wet and I get out but I cant comb my hair when its dry.

Answer
lol that's why curly girls in the know use a satin pillow case or a cap. Also, do the pineapple! http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/hairstyles/how-to-pineapple-your-hair

Also, you must try the No shampoo method, it's a miracle to get rid of the frizz!
http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/curl-products/all-about-the-no-poo-routine-2

NEVER comb your hair, wet or dry! No, no, no.

How to prevent hairstyle from being ruined?

Waqas

Is there anything that I can use on my hairs before going to bed, so that next morning when I get up my hairstyle is not ruined and bounce is not lost! Please help me :) I am guy with front hair near eye length and side puff!

Answer
You'll think I'm crazy but what ruins many dos is actually your pillow. Sleep on a satin pillow, it is very gentle on your scalp, and in years to come it's recommended to minimize facial lines and wrinkles. Google it if you dont believe me!

If you have dark hair, is there any way to lighten it without bleach?

best hair color to lighten dark hair

best hair color to lighten dark hair image

Kat P

I really don't want to bleach my hair, and i kind of like my hair color now, but just for reference, will a semi-permanent blonde dye lighten dark hair?

Answer
You can use lemon juice, then add head (like from a blow dryer) or go out into the sun. This is a natural lightener.

Speaking from experience, personally as well as professionally, do NOT use blonde hair dye on dark hair. It will lighten it to some degree but will more than likely turn the color of burnt cheese. So be careful on this. The only way to lighten dark hair chemically is to use bleach, but most hair dyes that you can buy in stores use a safer type of bleach than the old school ones.

I'd recommend going to a professional if this is what you are trying to do. You'll end up with brassy orangey hair from your at home dye job and then have to spend more money than you even set out to, to fix it. Anything extreme usually requires a professional. You could start out small, like with highlights, and over time, your hair will be more and more lightend, because if you keep going back to get your highlights done, more and more of your hair can be used.

If you are bound and determined to do it yourself... I wouldn't use a ready to use kit from Walmart or a drug store. Go to a beauty supply store, such as Sally's, and buy it piece by piece. That way you can get it the exact way you want it. Most of the people who work at Sally's are in the Beauty field, and can help you with any questions. If your hair is very dark, you should try a developer at 30 and then a bleaching kit. Just please... be careful.

Lighten dark brown hair with blond hair color?

Would blonde hair color lighten virgin dark brown/almost black hair to a nice mahogany brown or would it turn orange? And if it were to turn orange would using brown hair dye afterward fix it? D:

Help!

Answer
hi!

I think if you put blonde hair color on dark brown/black hair, then it would turn like mahogany brown. I don't think it's going to turn orange.

If it turns orange, you can put light brown hair dye afterwards to return to your hair color!

Hope I helped!

Im getting highlights for my birthday and im not so sure of what color to get. My natural hair color is a light brown. What color of high lights should i get?

Answer
If you already have brunette hair and are looking for ways to save some hard earned, beauty-splurge cash, why not go back to your roots and go the natural route? Despite popular fears that brown hair is boring, there are plenty of spicy ways to add a timeless look to your already beautiful brunette hair.
* Enrich: Enrich your natural color with an allover shade a few shades richer. To add some contrast and interest, ask your stylist to weave in a few copper hair highlights.
* Deepen: Go chocolate! If youâre natural brown borders on moussey, richen it up with a decadent shade of chocolate brown, which will add instant drama with little investment.
* Shine: Shine or color glossing treatments adds sparkle and sheen to dark hair. A glossing treatment can be done in the salon for a bargain price and will instantly add some life to your locks.
* Vanilla and Chocolate: Want the best of both worlds? Brunettes can still play with blonde without a large commitment. Ask your stylist to add a few strategically placed blonde hair highlights around your face to brighten your look while keeping the rest of your color natural.
* Chunk: Although not as trendy as days gone past, statement chunking techniques on a dark base add instant pop and a low maintenance color choice for those seeking a dramatic and bold look. Experiment with shades of blue, blonde, or red chunks. Get creative!

What is the best type of permanent hair color that you can buy in a Walmart kind of store?

Kate

I got a really bad highlight job last month and school is about to start and i want to fix it but have no money for professional color.

So what is a good brand of permanent hair color that makes your hair shinny and soft at the same time as it does its job, that you can get from a Walmart kind of store?

Answer
Well, it's expensive but totally worth it! The "Perfect 10"? It'll color those bad highlights-no problem! It usually costs around 10-12 dollars, but it's easy to find a coupon for them! It's a high gloss, fast acting hair dye that only takes ten minutes to do! It's so much fun, you don't have to wait so long to see how fabulous your hair will be! I've already used it twice and I'll keep using it because that's just how much I love it!

Good luck!

Xylia

I have a round face shape with long and thin hair. I cant find the right hairstyle! Would layers help? But that would only make my hair look thinner and flat!

Answer
Hi Rosie,

Layers are great for thin hair, trust me on this one. Try a feather or step cut. They'll add volume to your hair, making it appear less thin.
Make sure you ask your hair dresser to keep the last layer long (tell him not too cut off too much) and add lots of layers (usually we get 3-5 layers in a step-cut) The more steps he can add, the better!

Good luck.

Oh yeah I don't want to cut my hair really short. I want it about medium-length

Answer
Pixie cuts are best for a round shaped face. If you don't want to go too short, a cut that goes right below your chin would be fine too.

I have been looking for webpages to find ideas for new hairstyles. Any ideas?

Answer
Your still young! You can still look great with which ever hair do you like. Let's just say, you don't usually see a 70 year old woman with long blonde hair with side bangs and foils... That's probably more suited for someone your age. I think soft layers and a little bit of bang make a nice looking difference, maybe even getting some highlights would look nice too .. What happens when you cross 2 white german shepherds?

best hair color kc image

lee

I am NOT, I repeat NOT going to breed them, In fact, I'm planning on neutering him.. I'm just curious because they are always crossed with black and tan or black german shepherds..

Answer
[truly yours]: Go STUDY that genetics manual. What you describe can't happen - but the opposite can. It's the same as with hair. One of my grandmothers was a blonde. Her children were all brunettes, thanks to Granddad. But one of their daughters produced "carrot tops" to her Irish husband, the other daughter's son produced a blonde to a bride who was a brunette but as a baby had "moulted" through blonde & red-head.
And self-white mating pairs can produce ONLY self-white progeny.

No, [Ashley], if both parents are self-whites the grandparents are irrelevant to the litter's coat-colour. Because both pairs of alleles needed for the absence of hair-pigment (without also de-pigmenting the skin the way the Spotting series' recessive alleles do) are recessives, grandparents become important only to indicate whether non-white parents are carriers.

[Jordan] has it backwards. The 2 pairs of recessives aren't FOR white; they are for BLOCKING pigment. The e^ e^ pairing that blocks eumelanin (dark pigment) is very efficient. The other pairing, that blocks phaeomelanin (tan pigment), is less efficient, often allowing "badger patches". The hairs on a white dog or person are not actually white, they are transparent, allowing all areas of the spectrum to be reflected and refracted. To prove it, place some "white" hairs side-by-side on a printed page and examine under a strong light & magnifier - the print colours will be seen THROUGH those hairs

[lee]:
You get bitten in 2 places at once? It's not a good idea to "cross" a GSD, let alone TWO of them at once! VBG

Assuming that your "german shepherd" mispunctuation & abbreviation actually means members of the German Shepherd Dog breed, you get either no pups, or every pup a self-white GSD.

It is MIGHTY rare for a fancier of white GSDs to cross to a non-white GSD.
For a white GSD to be re-registered as a Berger Blanc Suisse by the Swiss KC, it must have ONLY registered-as-white GSDs in the closest 6 generations. I don't know what other FCI members are doing, but in Australia and Germany no white GSD can be registered as a GSD, and nor can it be registered as a BBS there or in NZ even if it arrives with The KC(UK) or CKC or AKC registration showing 6 generations of only-whites. Note: The official KCs of those last 3 nations are not members of the FCI, so won't recognise the BBS - but they cheerfully register as GSDs the off-colours, weak characters, etc etc.

But when a white GSD IS mated to a non-white, there will be no white pups UNLESS the non-white parent is a carrier, in which case you get about 1 in 4 pups being a self-white. But you will have VERY indifferent quality in such litters, as no-one with a Breed Surveyed GSD will allow an unsurveyable pooch to be mated to it. And pooches that CAN'T pass a Breed Survey are unworthy of the proud designation "GSD".
However, all such pups will be carriers for both types of recessive allele. AND are almost certain to possess various undesirable genes that cause black loss or colour-paling (because fanciers of white collect them to reduce the effect of "badger patches"), so that either their black area reduces to almost nothing by 2½ years old, or the tan fades to palest cream/fawn, or both happen.

Are there any home remedies or good shampoo or products that will restore my hair? I have tried a few things, even buying 40$ shampoo and conditioner which did not work. My hair is very thick and is curly/wavy. I have never dyed it but I do use the flat iron straightener with heat protection. My hair seems a little brittle and I would like it to be soft and silky and healthy again. Im open to anything.THANKS

Answer
Heat protection doesn't protect hair 100%. Like using sunscreen, you still get sunburned. Same with hair.

I did my part of abuse in the 80's & 90's. Look @ my hair now.

Good genes, good hair care and all the healthy foods from Mother Nature, that's where you get all your vitamins & minerals for growing from head to toes. Shampoos are meant for cleaning the hair, not for growing.

When you wash your hair with one of those nutrient-rich shampoos, most of the nutrients and active ingredients in the product donât actually end up in your hair, they wind up down the drain⦠along with all the money you spent on the shampoo. It is HOW you use to style your hair or what styling tools that damage the hair, and what chemicals you're adding to the hair, not the shampoo.

Washing less often, builds the natural oil your hair needs, to get them smoother, shinier, silkier, softer. Man-made products are just temporary, until you wash them again, and at the same time washing off the natural oil your hair NEEDS. Hair products just absorb on your hair if they're dry, like a sponge.
Jessica Simpson have figured it out, she said she wash her hair every week. She used to abuse her hair, then start selling hair extensions because her hair starting falling from all the chemicals, but she woke up and found out how to keep her hair healthy AGAIN.

Shampoo. Condition. Towel dry, scrunch with gel like Samy, or hand lotion, blow-dry using a diffuser briefly, tousle the hair, finger comb, shake your head & you're good to go. If you don't have a diffuser, use a blow heat dryer on low for 5 mins. Give it a final rinse with carbonated or sparkling water. Sparkling water reduces frizz because of its low pH level. This is a good treatment if you often let your curls air-dry because it will help to eliminate the frizz caused by humidity.
When you wake up, instead of shampooing again, keep a bottled water filled with water/conditioner and spray on your hair. Scrunch, finger comb and you're good to go! Google Haley Rinehart - American Idol she's got long beautiful curly hair! When my hair was permed in the 80's, my hair looked like hers.

One method to make it look fuller, add body, tame the curls, bouncier, thicker, SEXIER, softer & shinier hair is to set your hair with plastic curlers (not Velcro) after you towel dry, you'll end up with uniform balance of curls. Blow dry briefly while curling them in curlers. Take them out, and finger comb to style. Used by the best hair color models, and the fashion industry, like Victoria Secret Fashion Show Dec. 2009, 2010, & 2011, America's Next Top Models, EXPRESS, Toddlers & Tiaras, Dance Moms, Dancing with the Stars, even used on Oprah's hair . . . . and continued to be used today where salons care about pampering your hair. When you see hair on TV a hair color commercial, they're not done by curling or straightening tools. Hair that shines like that and feels like hair, not hay, has to be done by the best hair tools available w/out damaging to the hair. When you take the curlers out, finger comb to style or lightly brush. Tousle the hair up. or shake your hair. You can use large, medium or small curlers, that depends on the length of your hair. Think of JLo's hair, she was voted as the Sexiest Woman by People magazine!

If you've straightened your hair in the past, it may grow slowly or none at all.
Google: "Foods for Healthy Hair" - Your hair may be the fastest-growing tissue in the body but, unlike the skin, it cannot repair itself. That is why getting the right balance of vitamins and proteins is imperative. Don't expect to look like you've stepped out of a hair commercial the day after you've changed your diet. It is likely to take at least three months before you actually see tangible results.

Growing healthy hair doesn't come from a bottle or pills and hair products do not speed hair growth. Any hair oil, is another form to keep hair moisturized, nothing more. But when hair isn't growing as fast, it's because they've been tampered with: chemicals, hair straightening, etc. . .

Cutting your split ends yourself, spend 5-10 mins. on a sunny day so you can easily spot them, using a 2" scissors, cut strand by strand, section by section, allowing new growth to take over. Then 2x a year, get a good hair cut. This won't speed things up, but it will make the hair look healthier while it's growing. Even healthy hair like mine get them, due to normal brushing & styling.

Man-made products & supplements can do more harm than good.
Beginning in February 2008, they experienced one symptom after another: diarrhea, joint pain, HAIR LOSS, lung problems, and fingernails and toenails that fell off. FDA has received numerous reports of harm associated with the use of these products, including stroke, liver injury, kidney failure, heart palpitations, and death. 3-15-11.

What are some great hair products for repairing naturally curly hair?

Blah

Recently I've found out that I have curly hair after about 2 years of getting my hair deep conditioned & straightened. I have between 3B & 3C hair type but its frizzy with heat damage. So id like to go naturally & find some washes/products that hydrate my hair without being too oily, repair my frizz & split ends, & defines while holding my curls without gels making it crunchy & too shiny looking. How to dye my hair a somewhat darker auburn myself for cheap?

15 best hair color products image

Hunter

My hair color is the same as my avatars. I want my hair to be a darker brown with a hint of red in it. I'm not really sure what to call the color I am looking for. Auburn I guess.

Is their a product or a few products that I could buy for cheap (less than 15 dollars per product) that would allow me to do this?

Girls any preferences?
I want to dye my hair darker than it is. So a dye that will make my hair a darker brown with a hint or red in it.
And yes I don't mind using women's products :)

Answer
You don't mind using dye for women do you? Lol. I know garnier nutrisse has an auburn colored dye. They have dark intense auburn, medium intense auburn, and light intense aurburn. I'm guessing you would want the dark intense auburn. And this brand of garnier nutrisse is for darker colored hair, so it will make your hair look lighter, and give you that hint of red as well.

Edited: ok so you want to go darker?? Hmmm maybe you can try a mahogany color. I know mahogany is a dark brown with a little hint of red. You can go to www.garnierusa.com and check out the colors if you'd like :)

How to bring out my natural hair color?

L

I have very dark brown wavy & thick hair that looks a bit red in the sunlight, and I have never colored it before in my life. Sometimes I feel like it looks dull but I'm afraid to color it because everyone says it'll damage the hair, you can never get your natural hair color back, etc. Are there any hair products out there that could help bring my hair's color back to life? Or any natural recipes?

Answer
Do you see the light shining on my hair? That's AS NATURAL as Mother Nature intends for my hair to be!

Yes, dyeing your hair is tampering with your hair. Meaning: not only making the hair more dull, less shine, less soft, less silky, less everything. Washing the hair less, less exposed from the sun, can make the hair healthier, not duller. Hair products are just that, they coat the hair, and when they're done coating the natural finish of the hair, it's like putting a ton of wax on a brand new car. Does it need it? No, not right away. Will you sometimes need it? Yes, after maybe several years after you own it. But what will happen if you wax the car every time you wash it? You get wax build-up, same with your hair.

The hair industry is a billion dollar business, they sell products that cleans & condition the hair. They also sell products that damage and causes hair loss. They also DO NOT give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss due to 'abuse'.

The secret, really? Washing less often, builds the natural oil your hair needs, to get them smoother, shinier, silkier, softer. Man-made products are just temporary, until you wash them again, and at the same time washing off the natural oil your hair NEEDS. Hair products just absorb on your hair if they're dry, like a sponge.

The only product I use for my hair, to keep it as healthy is hampoo. We have soft water. I haven't used conditioner for over 15 years. When traveling, I briefly rinse with bottled water. Celebrities use Perrier water to rinse their hair.

2nd secret: Google: "Foods for Healthy Hair" - Your hair may be the fastest-growing tissue in the body but, unlike the skin, it cannot repair itself.

If you're in HS, your hair & nails should be growing normally, and as healthily as possible, since you're eating healthy foods. But when hair isn't growing as fast, it's because they've been tampered with: chemicals, hair straightening, etc. . .

DYK, as you get older, your hair starts to aged? Red will have about 4-7 colors mixed into your hair. My orig. color was blue-black (in the sun), now it's got 4 other colors, and that gives it MORE UNIQUE. People @ the salon, comes over to touch my hair: "hair that long is never healthy, but yours is beautiful." People on the streets, asked me: "what brand of dye do you use to streak your hair? It's so beautiful!" Honestly, I tell them, it's not from a bottle. Yes, I have streaks in all the right places. . . . I've posted 37 styles in a year.

What does "progressive hair coloring" mean?

best hair color home product image

Sheryl S

I've always had my hair colored by salons but cannot really afford that now. I looked at store products like Nice & Easy, and one box said, "Do not use if you have had progressive hair color."

Someone else told me not to switch to home products if I've been going to a professional salon all this time.

What to do? I am brunette and usually get it colored dark auburn but can live with brunette again if I have to.

Answer
Progressive hair coloring is the act of repeatedly getting your hair dyed until you reach your desired hair color.

A home kit would probably say not to use it if you have been getting progressive hair coloring because it will interfere with what your stylist has been doing

Progressive hair coloring products contain lead acetate as the active ingredient. Lead acetate is approved as a color additive for coloring hair on the scalp at concentrations not exceeding 0.6% w/v, calculated as metallic lead (21 CFR 73.2396). Bismuth citrate, the other approved color additive (21 CFR 73.2110), is used to a much lesser extent. Progressive hair dyes change the color of hair gradually from light straw color to almost black by reacting with the sulfur of hair keratin as well as oxidizing on the hair surface.

Semi-permanent and temporary hair coloring products are solutions (on rare occasions dry powders) of various coal-tar, i.e. synthetic organic, dyes which deposit and adhere to the hair shaft to a greater or lesser extent. Temporary hair colors that must be reapplied after each shampooing. The vehicle may consist of water, organic solvents, gums, surfactants and conditioning agents. The coal-tar dyes are either listed and certified colors additives or dyes for which approval has not been sought. The dyes may not be non-permitted metallic salts or vegetable substances.

The active ingredient for progressive hair dye products is lead acetate. In the U.S, the current regulation governs that lead acetate can be used as color additive for hair coloring as long as the concentration is less than 0.6% w/v. The most noticeable difference between oxidation and progressive hair dyes is that progressive dyes are intended to give a more gradual change in hair color.

Semi-permanent and temporary products are either in the form of aerosal spray, solutions or dry poweders (or sometimes called fibers). The key ingredient is usually coal-tar carried by a vehicle that may consist of water, organic solvent, gums, surfactants, conditioning agents. In the US, the rules governing the quality of coal-tar dyes are confusing and there is no guarantee that the temporary or semi-permanent dye products you are using contain non-approved ingredients. Ethical manufacturers should always issue a caution statement in the packaging of their products advising consumers to do a small patch testing for skin sensitivity. Specifically, the US government suggests the following caution statement: "This product contains ingredients which may cause skin irritation on certain individuals and a preliminary test according to a accompanying directions should first be made. This product must not be used for dyeing the eyelashes or eyebrows, to do may cause blindness." The US government further indicates that the manufacturer will be subject to regulartory actions if the caution statement is not properly addressed and if their products are found to be harmful under customary use.

Hair dyes work more like paint by covering hair strands with chemical colors or by mixing with the melanin granules without altering them.

There are three basic categories : 1) permanent, 2) semi-permanent, 3) temporary. Temporary form can be washed out instantly. As of now, permanent hair dyes are the most popular. They can be sub-divided into 1) oxidation hair dyes and 2) progressive hair dyes.

Oxidatioin hair dye products consist of dye intermediates and a solution of hydrogen peroxide. An example of dye intermediates is p-phenylenediamine which form hair dyes on chemical reaction. 2-nitro-p-phenylenediamine is another type of dye intermediates. They are already dyes and are added to achieve the intended shades. The dye intermediates and the hydrogen peroxide solution, often called the developer, are mixed shortly before application to the hair. The applied mixture causes the hair to swell and the dye intermediates penetrate the hair shaft to some extent before they have fully reacted with each other and the hydrogen peroxide and formed the hair dye.

Progressive hair dyes for men are products that gradually build up to the desired color with repeated use. Make sure that you educate yourself on the process by reading the box carefully before trying it. There is also a lot of controversy surrounding the long-term effects caused by the lead acetate often found in these products. So again, inform yourself and make sure you don't use a product that might be hazardous to your health

What is the best hair color product that will stay in my hair?

Dawn s

My natural hair color is a light brown. I use Sun-In to lighten the color for many years now. I tried to dye my hair my natural color and the color washed out in a month. What will stay in my hair?

Answer
Firstly, any at home product isn't as good quality as salon products. Go to a salon and explain to them what you want. Sure the costs is more, but the quality is also. Avoid at home coloring in the future, you are runining your hair with all these chemicals. If you want color or highlights, visit a local salon! Their work has a better guarantee!

How can i look good for my yearbook picture?

trendy hair color pictures image

Jess

I'm probably the least photogenic person ever, and my yearbook pictures always suck.

What are some tips on what to wear, makeup, and hair for the picture?
Also maybe how to smile or something, lol. Anything is appreciated.

BTW im going to be a sophomore in high school.

Answer
Practice your smile (especially in the mirror) Don't wear colorful makeup because you might look like a clown in a circus if you do-wear makeup that has natural colors. And don't have your hair super-trendy because 10 years from now you might regret having your hair so fashionable, wear it as a classic. Also, try to use matte colors on your face, so it won't look shiny [for the camera].

What is a cute simple halloween costume that doesn't cost a lot but is trendy too?

BlairWaldo

i want something that is quick trendy and not expensive but i want it to be really simple.

Answer
Here is a list iv shared a few times but it answers you question also.
Here are some of my homemade costume ideas.
You could be a scarecrow really easily.
Amywinehouse would be easy, or Sara Palin.
A zombie with all your old clothes.
A football player as long as you have a jersey.
An old lady.
If you have an old prom dress or something you could be Ginger from Gillian's Island.
A gypsy would be easy, look up pictures it would be fun makeup too.
You could be an 80's workout lady with leggins and big hair and head band.
You could be pretty much any animal for cheap all you have to do is paint your face and wear a solid color shirt or something.
Cowgirl.
An angel if you have a white dress, you can make a halo easily or buy one at walmart cheap.
My sister is being a girl/doll zombie thing with a kids dress she bought at the Goodwill.
Its really short and looks like a doll and shes going to wear those lace socks and cary a teddy bear that is missing an eye.
Its all about imagination because you can be almost anything you want with stuff at home as long as you aren't lazy with it.
Makeup is the key to pulling it off.

How to color your hair at home with Goldwell Elumen?

Yes, I know Goldwell Elumen is a professional Salon hair color product. But some of us can't afford to go to salon's but you can buy these products online so I thought I'd give it a try. I will also try it on one hair strand before doing it on all of my hair of course.

Problem is though, I can't seem to find a guide on how to color with these colors anywhere. I've only heard that if you mix it with water it gets totally ruined. Anyone who can help this girl with ugly boring hair? The color I was thinking of was their PK@all, the super pink one.

Answer
Call Customer Service. We don't sell nor use Goldwell Elumen.

Style meets chemistry meets biology: We're talking hair coloring.

Playing with chemicals is not like playing with clothes, or doing a manicure, there are penalties for playing chemicals in the lab. Even hair color experts at the salon are not rocket scientists, they do a bang up dye jobs to their clients or their own hair.

Chemicals can enter the body through the skin.

London, Feb 20, 2013 I've been saying that since 2009.
Hair dyes, which include home hair colouring kits and those used at pricey salons, are linked to deadly cancer-causing chemicals, warn scientists. In 2009 the Mail revealed that women who used hair dyes more than nine times a year had a 60% greater risk of contracting blood cancer.
A year later the European Commission banned 22 hair dyes which put long-term users at risk of bladder cancer. < < < <â¨

The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. Itâs made from coal tar and is used in both permanent and semi-permanent hair colours. Itâs well-known to be a cause of serious allergic reactions -- including something called contact dermatitis which can lead to rashes, blisters, and open sores.
PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time.

The British woman who went into coma after a reaction to hair dye has died after a year. Updated 11-25-12. The woman suffered a heart failure, struggled for breath and became unconsciousness. Her family blamed paraphenylenediamine, a chemical found in hair colour. Her family has now called for paraphenylenediamine to be banned from home dye kits. In 2000, a 38-year-old Indian-origin woman from Birmingham, Narinder Devi, died after an allergic reaction to hair dye.

On average, how much does it cost to get your hair colored at a salon?

Scarlet

I want my hair colored at a salon, but I'm not going to if it costs way too much. It's not a high class salon, but it's not a low class chain salon like SuperCuts. What would you say is the average price of getting hair coloring done at a salon like that?

Answer
it depends where you live at but for girls probabaly around $60 average.

I have a medium hair length and wavy texture, and bangs. I want hair extensions but don't know where to start? What are the different methods and styles that I could try?
What are the most common and what do celebrities usually do?
Thanks! I would like to know what ARE the options. And I'm also not asking for your opinion on hair extensions.

Answer
Check the below websites for the best hair extension methods, too many to list out in this section

How long does your hair have to be to use Hair-do's Jessica Simpsons clip in hair extensions?

I Have short hair (sides are just below my ears), and i want long hair but i made the mistake of cutting it, so the only way is to get hair extensions. I like the idea of Hair-do's hair extensions but i don't know if it would look like a mullet as my hair is short. Also can you tie it back comfortably with the extensions in? Would the 19'' straight style work well?

Answer
i heard those arent the best quality i have been looking into hair extensions myself and i found headkandy.com. since your hair is so short you would have to get the full head set. you email them your picture and they tell you what color they suggest for your hair. i found headkandy b/c of youtube vidoes so just type it in on youtube. they do look natural b/c a girl with short hair used them :) good luck!!

I want the best hair dryer I don't care how much it costs. I have thick curly hair. right now i have a solia it's decent but I think there's something better out there.

Answer
Honestly if you're already using a good ionized hair dryer with cool shot it's probably not going to get any better. If you're having hair troubles there's more than likely something other than your blow dryer to blame in that case. Do you use any oil or silicone products prior to blow drying? Do you use a diffusing attachment? Do you use any leave in conditioners? Do any protein treatments? Use any styling products? etc.

I use a Bed Head Clean Freak hair dryer. It's tourmaline & ceramic with cool shot and runs about $40. I couldn't be happier with it. It has everything I need (ionized air, cool shot, finger diffuser) and it doesn't give me any technical issues. That's really all you can ask for out of a blow dryer (that it has the technology you need and doesn't break down).

A good test for your hair dryer: try going a day without it. Do you still have the same problem you do when you use it? If you do, it's pretty definite that it's not the hair dryer but your routine. If you don't, then there's either a. something wrong with the hair dryer or b. something wrong with how you're approaching the act of blow drying itself. See how this helps narrow down the possibilities on what is going on with your hair?

Good luck. :) If you still think you need a new hair dryer, well, I can testify that TIGI's Bed Head Clean Freak hair dryer is pretty good, and cheaper too. ;)

Just FYI, this is my hair regimen. Mind you that I am biracial and have 3b ringlets, so this probably not exactly what you should do, but it will give you a rough idea on what your regimen should be looking like:

- I wash with conditioner. Shampoo is unnecessary unless your hair is really oily or you use styling products that leave build up. I used to do the once a week thing but then I realized this was completely unnecessary for me and cut it out. Less shampoo equals a lot more health when it comes to curly hair.
- I use a braid sheen with conditioner. Using a leave in conditioner isn't necessary for some curls, but for most it's pretty influential. I like braid sheen because it's lightweight but rich. You can also use regular leave in conditioner, curl activator, hair moisturizing lotion, or regular conditioner.
- I comb my hair with a detangling comb. Curly hair is fragile and can't handle brushes or regular combs. Always use a wide toothed comb or detangling comb on it.
- I use some hair oil. It's important for people with curls to use a product that will coat their hair shaft and seal in moisture since their hair tends to be more porous than straight hair and loses moisture easily. Silicone and oil are both capable of doing this, and it depends on the hair as to which suits it better. Less dry/looser curl types may prefer silicone such as hair silk and hair serum, while dryer/tighter curl types may prefer oil products such as hair oil and oil sheen. Very little of any of these products goes a long way so they require care in application. These are aslo the products that protect your hair from heat styling damage. Even with the best hair dryer, one should make sure they use a product that will protect their hair from any damage the hair dryer or (more importantly) the climate may bring to their hair.
- I put some foaming wrap lotion in my hair. I choose this styling product because it's extra moisturizing and provides a better, shinier seal than mousse while still giving the same natural feeling hold that mousse provides. Gels, mousses, pomades, and setting lotions also usually do well with curly hair so long as they are alcohol free and non-drying.
- I blow dry my hair. Sometimes if I want things to go quickly I start out with warm air, but I ALWAYS finish the last half with cool shot to prevent myself from over drying my hair (which can cause frizz). If I want lots of volume and loose curls I will use the blow dryer by itself on low, but if I want to create tighter and more reformed curls I use the finger diffuser with the dryer on low and scrunch my hair.
- I then usually finish off with a little braid sheen with conditioner to re-moisturize my hair a little and help soften up the styling product's hold a little bit so I can shape my hair precisely the way I want it to look.

This is what it looks like in the end (I think this pic was taken about five hours after I had styled it):

What kind of hair dryer should I get for my wife?

DeepThough

My new wife is a professional cosmetologist at a high-end salon (One of the top salons in our area).

She needs new curling irons and a hair dryer for work, and I was thinking of buying her a hair dryer for Christmas, but I have NO IDEA what to look for, this is way out of my sphere of knowledge. It needs to be super high quality, durable, and otherwise high end. I'm able to spend up to 150, though would prefer to keep it under 100.

Any cosmetologist professionals out there with recommendations? Product links or just tips on what to look for would be greatly appreciated.

How can I make myself look older?

caramel_la

I'm 20 years old, 5'3, dark blond hair and hazel eyes. Almost always people don't believe me when I tell them I'm 20, they usually think I'm somewhere between 14-17. It's really embarssing because I would like to look my age, and it hurts when people I don't even know tell me I look like I'm 14. I wear make up and clothes appropriate to my age, so I'm wondering what else can I do to make myself look my age? My sister is 12 and a couple times people have said we look the same age. Please help me.

Answer
I can sympathize. From the time my sister was 11 and I was 15, people thought she was my older sister. I'm sure part of it is height. I'm 5'0" and petite.

You'll appreciate it later in life, but until then:

Start with hairstyle. I loved having longer hair, but getting my hair cut and permed always seemed to help add a couple years to my apparent age.

Dressing a bit more formally also seemed to help. Even though they're age-appropriate, trendy styles just make us look younger. Go for the classic look. A blazer type jacket, even over jeans, seemed to help make me look responsible (and thus older.)

Tape your voice and see if it's adding to the perception of your being younger. Listen to people your age, then go listen to a bank or store manager. Can you hear the difference? Slow down. Speak clearly, enunciate your words and use good grammar. Speaking with confidence and authority helps clue people to the fact that you're not a teenager.

Go people watch for a while and notice body language of mature women vs. women your own age. Look at posture, where they're looking when they walk, what they're doing with their hands, etc. (Younger women tend to fidget and look around to see who is noticing them.)

Although your makeup is age appropriate, maybe you're using too much (we tend to use far more than we should when trying to look older). Go to a big department store and ask one of the cosmetic reps to update your look. It's free, but be sure to thank the person who helps you. (Having good manners always makes an "older" impression.)

Good luck, and hang in there. You'll appreciate your young looks far sooner than you think!

Some hair color use ammonia in them. So is the ammonia harmful to the brain once the hair color that contains the ammonia is used to dye the hair?? What are the bad effects?? Thanks.

Answer
All the reactive ingredients that are left when you use hair dye are washed out in the rinse. No problem there.

Ammonia is an ingredient in household cleaners, and is inhaled when you use them. It isn't particularly harmful in small quantities.

should I get my highlights done at a salon that uses ammonia free hair color?

I want to get highlights for the summer, but I also want them to last very long, without it fading. Should I go to this salon who uses ammonia-free hair coloring? Does ammonia free highlighting mean the color will fade faster? I have medium-dark brown hair and want cool blonde highlites.

Answer
defiantly solan
