I am African American with 4b/c natural hair.

I want to dye my hair using SheaMoisture Coloring Line system and then follow up shortly with Organix Brazillian Keratin 30 Day treatment.

Has anyone used both of these products on natural hair? I currently have SheaMoisture's Dark Golden Blonde hair color in my head now. I dyed it about a month ago. I have never used a BKT before.

Please advise and suggest! Thanks!

Answer
Heat & chemicals are hair's worst enemies.

Chemicals can enter the body through the skin. BOTH causes cancer.

> > > Hair dye chemicals linked to cancer
London, Feb 20, 2013 I've been saying that since 2009.
Hair dyes, which include home hair colouring kits and those used at pricey salons, are linked to deadly cancer-causing chemicals, warn scientists. In 2009 the Mail revealed that women who used hair dyes more than nine times a year had a 60% greater risk of contracting blood cancer.
A year later the European Commission banned 36 hair dyes which put long-term users at risk of bladder cancer. < < < <â¨

The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. Itâs made from coal tar and is used in both permanent and semi-permanent hair colours. Itâs well-known to be a cause of serious allergic reactions -- including something called contact dermatitis which can lead to rashes, blisters, and open sores.
PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time. Skin specialist Najjia Ashraf reveals that there are barely any dyes that donât contain this toxin; even the ones who claim they donât, are not being honest. âBig brands often escape the blame by suggesting they are ammonia-free. However, ammonia and PPD are two very different things and PPD is present in nearly every dye because it is what gives off the colour,â she explains.

Permanent black hair dye is linked to causing leukemia and lymphomas.

Hair straighteners are known as hair relaxers, keratin treatments and hair-smoothing products. They work by breaking and reforming the chemical bonds in keratin, which is the main protein that gives shape to each hair.

The FDA has previously received complaints that the products cause adverse reactions, including nervous system problems such as headaches, respiratory tract problems, nausea, chest pain, vomiting and rashes.

Google: What Does Organic Mean for Beauty Products?

Hair-straightening products are allowed to contain small concentrations of formaldehyde (0.2 percent). But several hair-straightening solutions have been found to contain well above the allowable limit. For example, one popular hair-straightening product that advertised itself as âformaldehyde-freeâ actually contained 6.8 percent to 11.8 percent formaldehyde.
Another example: Fourteen women, including two from North Texas and one from Houston, are suing Unilever, the maker of a product they claim caused permanent damage to their hair.
"It transforms frizzy, unmanageable hair into hair that's sleeker and easier to style," said the commercial for the Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion 30-Day Smoothing Kit, which is no longer being sold
When she began looking online for more information about the product, she said she found some people who said it worked, but more who said it damaged their hair.
She discovered a Facebook page devoted to angry consumers, and there are multiple postings on YouTube. I've been warning people about relaxers since 2009 and people are giving me thumbs down!
BTW: A variety of hair-straightening products used in professional salons can expose both hairdressers and their customers to formaldehyde. The results show that three professional hair-smoothing treatments labeled "formaldehyde free" can produce the cancer-causing chemical at concentrations above the occupational exposure limits set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. They tested four products: Coppola Keratin Complex Blonde Formula, Global Keratin Juvexin Optimized Functional Keratin, La Brasiliana Escluso Keratin Treatment with Collagen, and Brazilian Blowout Acai Professional Smoothing Solution. While ChemRisk tested four popular brands of hair straighteners, THERE ARE HUNDREDS on the market. Nov. 11-11

By contrast, beauty salon owners and stylists generally lack a scientific background and don't have a keen awareness of the danger of working with products that contain formaldehyde, experts say.

Is it possible to reverse the effects of hair colouring or to remove hair colour from hair?

Q. I've dyed my hair several times over the last 2 or 3 years, and I realize it's impossible to get my natural hair colour back, but are there ways to remove hair dye from my hair? I've heard the term 'getting hair stripped', what does this mean? If there are procedures to remove hair dye, how much would this cost approximately?
Not sure if it matters, but my natural hair is a light dirty blonde, and I've dyed it a very dark brown as well as orangey red colours in the past, so right now it's an ugly brown with red tinge.
If I decide to let it just grow out, will I somewhat get my natural colour, even after years of dying?

Answer
Try just 'letting it grow' for about two months and then go get a 'crew cut' from your hair dresser ... the hair that is left will be your 'natural color' and that might be 'different' from the color your hair was before you started coloring it ... but it is still your 'natural color.' DO NOT HAVE ANY MORE CHEMICAL PROCESSES done to your hair. Eventually it will all 'grow out' and you'll have your 'natural hair color' again ... that 'crew cut' is just because you are 'sick of' your 'colored hair' ... and most women actually look really good with a 'crew cut' ... even for just as long as it takes to 'grow out' again ... and as to 'cost' ... I pay my hairdresser $30 for each 'haircut' he gives me, which is a bit on the 'high side' but I TRUST HIM with my hair, totally. You could go to a 'barber' and get it done for around $12 ... which isn't bad, considering how much you've 'damaged' your hair with all the 'color' you've put in it.
