sharpie229

like say form blonde to brown... or like brown to black... is this custom for older (30-50s) women do?
i dont have a mom, im asking if it is customary to die your hair when you age... im a little blonde girl my hari gets darker every year... i dont want to go brown.. .but i might have to... i just wanted to know if thats what they do

Answer
Some women dye their hair, but this depends on the individual and has nothing to do with age. The only thing you can count on is, as people get older, their hair loses pigmentation, causing it to turn grey or white.

Hope this helps!

need help with hair color, need advice!?

Q. okay, well I bought BEYOND THE ZONE bleaching kit, and then i bought BEYOND THE ZONE color jamZ turqoise.
well, I bleached like 2 talis, and i liked the way it bleached my dark hair! okay well then I dyed it turqoise and it turned out like green kinda!
What i want to know is if i put it on again will it turn more like a blue??!
its like two little tails in the bottom and like in the back,
well my hair was kind of yellow after bleaching it,so i guess thats why. i left the bleach on for more then an hour and it wasnt getting any blonder, but it was blonde enough to dye.

Call the 1-800# found on the box of dye or email them, (to find #, go online & search the brand if you don't have the box) they're the hair color experts they can advice you best.

Playing with chemicals is not like playing with clothes, there are penalties for playing chemicals in the lab. Even hair color experts at the salon are not rocket scientists, they do a bang up dye jobs to their clients or their own hair.

I've responded to many girls (guys now too) under 15 experiencing in hair loss since 2009, due to hair straightening, relaxers and hair dyes. Women 60-90 have those same symptoms but it took them years to get there. But for 15 & under, giving advice here? They can't predict the future of their hairs, until they're in their 30's, but 15 & under with hair loss? C'mon! I've responded 7 in 2 hours 9-3-10 alone.
http://www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ByAudienâ¦

One example found from YA HAIR: "i am 17 yrs old. i had a curly perm when i was 13 years old . im thinking of going to a dermatologist to help me with my hair loss. what can they do
to help with my hair loss. its so embarrassing has anyone had help from dermatologistâ¦."
Hair protectant doesn't protect hair 100%. Like using sunscreens, you still get sunburned. Same with hair.

When it does that, it is too late to do anything about it. That's another reason why the hair industry is a billion dollar business, their main job is to make tons of money and they do not give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss, due to 'abuse'.

One example of hair loss on a 16 years old.
I'm 16 years old, i don't really die my hair that much i probably died it like twice this whole year. well i lose soooo much hair EVEY SINGLE DAY, i lose soo much, that I'm literally almost bald :,( my doctor said she thinks its some kind of hormone change, then my hairstylist says its because its waaay to dry, but idk what it is because it wont stop falling out!!! It might be because i use to straighten it when i had mouse in it, but that was like 2 years ago.. helpp!!!

Another example, ? about her age:
"I recently decided to dye my hair. I didn't like the first color so I dyed it again a week later. Then I permed it 4 weeks later, now its really dry and brittle and falls out everywhere, it comes out in chucks when I comb it or even wash."

Google hair dyes & cancer spec. black hair dyes which is made from tar. Some people smoke & tan all their lives and do not get cancer. But there are 2nd hand & 3rd hand smoke who are now carrying their oxygen tank so they can breath or have cancer. Same with hair dyes. I've responded 3 in the last 15 mins. 9-26-10. If you're not affected today, or next month, you may never be affected and you're one of the lucky ones. It doesn't take overnight, it takes years of hair experimentation with hair dyes.

Here's a new article I found re: henna, which is supposed to be better for you than reg. box dye. It's a good read!

One example on someone who had re-bleached her hair now they're falling out.

I know hair. I have over 4 decades of hair know-how. I have silky, shiny, soft, smooth very healthy hair down to my knees. Previously damaged by perming & dyeing in the 80's & 90's. I've known people in their 30's whose hair stopped growing from ironing their hair in the 70's.

How can I stop early greying of hair?

I am only 17 but some of my hair has already turned gray.I don't want to try hair colouring since they contain chemicals. What natural home remedies do you suggest? Is there any special diet you recommend to arrest the further graying of hair?

Answer
read this:

PREMATURE GREYING - by Editor

Have you started seeing the first strands of grey in your hair? Here?s what you can do to prevent further greying.

What can I eat to prevent premature greying?

Eating seafood is possibly one of the best things you can eat to promote all-over hair health. It is rich in zinc, iodine and protein, which are excellent for the hair. So if you enjoy seafood, make it a point to have fish several times a week. Remember that eating canned fish will not give you the same benefits as eating freshly cooked fish. If you don?t eat fish, consider fish-oil supplements.

Iron is good for hair and is found in dark green vegetables, meat and some pulses. If you are unsure about whether you are getting enough iron, include an iron supplement every once in a while in your diet. Remember that too many iron supplements can be bad for you. Women lose iron while menstruating, so perhaps during or after your cycle you can have iron-fortified supplements for a few days.

Eating foods rich in Vitamins B and C will ensure that your hair stays strong, does not break easily, and does not grey early. Pork, vegetables, whole grains, wheat germ, soymilk are all rich sources of Vitamin B, while citrus fruits are excellent sources of Vitamin C. Eating adequate Vitamin C helps increase absorption of iron. Try and have a glass of orange juice daily.

Your hair will never be healthy if you do not drink enough water. Drink at least eight to ten glasses a day.

What oil can I apply to my hair?

Rosemary oil is believed to gradually darken grey hair over a period of time. Soak rosemary leaves along with a few basil (tulsi) leaves, in jojoba oil, for a period of four weeks. Massage your scalp and hair with this oil (after warming it up).

Most oils are not easily absorbed by the hair, which is why you need to leave oil on for at least forty-five minutes. It helps greatly if you steam your hair after applying oil.

Boil dried amla pieces in coconut oil until the pieces turn black and the oil darkens. Apply this oil to the hair. It strengthens hair and prevents greying.

Boil tealeaves in water and rinse your hair with this liquid 20-30 times. Then, leave on for 15-20 minutes before the final rinse.

What else can I do to promote hair health and delay greying?

Washing your hair with very hot water or using hair-dryers excessively weaken roots, and may lead to premature greying. When using a hair-dryer, take care not to point it to your scalp. Similarly, try and wash your hair with cool or lukewarm water.

Will Yoga help?

Inverted yoga poses bring a rush of blood to the scalp. This stimulates circulation and enhances hair health. Do the following poses regularly:

Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward Facing Dog)

Sarvangasana

Chakrasana

Other easy ways to stimulate circulation are:

When you wash your hair, keep switching from hot water to cold water.

Comb your hair regularly. A hundred strokes every night should do the trick. If your hair is curly, use a wide toothed comb.

1. Take 100 gms of curd. Add about 1 gm of black pepper to it. Mix it well and apply it evenly on the hair and scalp. Keep it for an hour and then wash with warm water and mild shampoo. Do this treatment once a week to see the remarkable difference in the texture and color of your hair . Your hair will become silkier and regular use will also make the hair dandruff-free. Curd helps in curing dandruff and making the hair softer while black pepper helps make the hair black. So one recipe gives 3 benefits - a) dandruff-free hair b) soft and silky hair and c) black hair. Doing this once a week helps in maintaining the hair color and delaying greying to a great extent. This recipe should be avoided by people who have a tendency to catch frequent colds and coughs. Curd causes a cooling effect on the head and this may worsen a cold situation.
2. Rubbing your left and right hand nails with each other is a splendid way to cure hair fall, increase hair growth and get back the lost color. The beauty of the method lies in its simplicity and the fact that it is free, needs very little time and has absolutely no side-effects. Regular use brings back lost color. The new hair that grows back is also colored and not white. You need to fold both your palms inwards and place the fingernails of both hands against each other. Then with regular swift motions, rub them against each other. This rubbing procedure increases the blood flow to the scalp and helps in strengthening the roots. It is simple and can be done anywhere anytime. Do it for about 5-7 minutes twice a day. It is tried and tested and is guaranteed to show results. It is well popularized by naturopaths and ayurvedic experts in India. You need to be patient though. You will begin to notice a difference in about a month and by the end of 6 months you will se remarkable improvements in your hair.
3. Make a paste of gooseberries and mango seeds. Apply this onto the hair and scalp and leave on for some time before washing off. When done at regular intervals, this helps delay greying.
4. Make a paste of henna in an iron vessel and leave overnight. Also add some walnut pulp in the morning. Apply this on the hair and make a neat bun. Leave for 1 - 2 hours or till it dries. Gently and carefully wash off. Apart from preventing early greying, it also adds a beautiful red tinge to the hair. It is completely natural and harmless. It also conditions hair.
5. Boil tea leaves in water. Strain and let it cool down. Mix two teaspoonfuls of salt into it and apply to hair and scalp. Wash after an hour with plain water. This process when done once in 10 days can prevent graying.

How do I bring my hair back to life?

Q. My natural hair color is very light blond, I dyed it black for about 3 years, and I've recently went back to blond, so my hair is extremely damaged. I use in leave in conditioner but my hair is still very rough when I get out of the shower until I straighten it. I know leave in conditioner is my best bet, but what are the best brands to use? Can I get it at my local Sally's?

Answer
Alright here's a list of things that you can do:

1. Start taking Biotin, Fish Oil & Women's One A Day Vitamins or you can just take Prenatal Vitamins (you don't have to be pregnant to take those). *Good prenatal vitamins: Simply One, available at iherb dot com.

2. Start using organic hair products (organic shampoo, conditioner, protein treatment, deep treatment, leave-in conditioner, jellies, pomades, hair butter, etc.) You can find these products at curlmart dot com or iherb dot com. *Good hair products are: Curl Junkie, Spiral Solutions, Kinky Curly, and Giovanni.

3. Use a wide tooth comb instead of a regular brush.

4. Do not apply any type of heat to your hair. I used to blow dry and flat iron my hair, used a heat protector and everything and my hair still got thin & brittle.

5. Massage your scalp with organic virgin coconut oil the night before you wash your hair (massage your scalp for at least 5 minutes). Sleep with the coconut oil and then wash it out the next morning. Or you can massage in coconut oil 30 minutes before you wash your hair. If you don't have coconut oil, you can use organic virgin olive oil, jojoba oil, rosemary oil, castor oil, or you can mix all of these oils together. *Good coconut oil is called Nutiva. Available at iherb dot com.

6. Use the organic shampoo once a week. If you feel that you need to wash your hair throughout the week just wash it with a light weight conditioner such as VO5 or Suave. This is called co-washing. Co-washing works only for people who use sulfate/silicone free hair products. All you have to do is wash your hair with a light conditioner the same as you would wash your hair with shampoo. Once you wash out the conditioner, put on a thicker organic conditioner (deep conditioner), leave that on for a couple minutes, then wash it out and you're done. If you're going to start using sulfate/silicone free products, make sure you wash your hair with a sulfate shampoo or you can rinse your hair with apple cider vinegar and water mixed in a bottle for the last time and then you can start with your organic routine. The whole point of this step is to wash off any silicones from your hair. You can get more information about this on naturallycurly dot com. *A good apple cider vinegar is by the brand called "Bragg". Available at iherb dot com.

7.Exercise for 30-45 minutes 4-5 times a week.

8.Drinking 8 bottles of water per day can help. I only drink about 3 bottles though because that much water makes me pee every 5 minutes.

9.Eating fruits, fish, chicken, veggies, (protein), etc. can help.

10.Wash your hair the most, 3 times a week. The least, once a week.

11.Apply a good organic leave-in conditioner once you are finished washing your hair.

12.Trim your hair every 3-5 months. (This step is important. You should really trim those dead ends.)

13.Do protein treatments once a week (or once a month, depends on how damaged your hair is). Here's how to do it: 1. Wash your hair with shampoo. 2. Dry your hair a little bit. 3. Put on the protein treatment to your hair and then apply a shower cap. You can leave the protein treatment on for up to 5 minutes through three hours. After that, wash it out, dry hair a little bit and apply the deep treatment (make sure the d.t. does not have any protein in it). Leave in the deep treatment, put on a shower cap and leave it in for up to 5 minutes through three hours. After, wash it out and you are finished.

14. Do the "pineapple" hairstyle before you go to sleep. Just do a loose pony tail at the top of your head. Use a scrunchy. Then apply a satin bonnet. You can either do that or you can sleep on a satin pillow case.

15. Do not do hairstyles that are going to be really tight such as tight pony tails, buns, braids, etc.

16. Do not use hot water when you wash your hair. Wash hair with slightly warm to cold water. Doing this can help add shine to hair and prevent frizz.

17.Get enough sleep. At least 6-8 hours per day.

I am African American with 4b/c natural hair.

I want to dye my hair using SheaMoisture Coloring Line system and then follow up shortly with Organix Brazillian Keratin 30 Day treatment.

Has anyone used both of these products on natural hair? I currently have SheaMoisture's Dark Golden Blonde hair color in my head now. I dyed it about a month ago. I have never used a BKT before.

Please advise and suggest! Thanks!

Answer
Heat & chemicals are hair's worst enemies.

Chemicals can enter the body through the skin. BOTH causes cancer.

> > > Hair dye chemicals linked to cancer
London, Feb 20, 2013 I've been saying that since 2009.
Hair dyes, which include home hair colouring kits and those used at pricey salons, are linked to deadly cancer-causing chemicals, warn scientists. In 2009 the Mail revealed that women who used hair dyes more than nine times a year had a 60% greater risk of contracting blood cancer.
A year later the European Commission banned 36 hair dyes which put long-term users at risk of bladder cancer. < < < <â¨

The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. Itâs made from coal tar and is used in both permanent and semi-permanent hair colours. Itâs well-known to be a cause of serious allergic reactions -- including something called contact dermatitis which can lead to rashes, blisters, and open sores.
PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time. Skin specialist Najjia Ashraf reveals that there are barely any dyes that donât contain this toxin; even the ones who claim they donât, are not being honest. âBig brands often escape the blame by suggesting they are ammonia-free. However, ammonia and PPD are two very different things and PPD is present in nearly every dye because it is what gives off the colour,â she explains.

Permanent black hair dye is linked to causing leukemia and lymphomas.

Hair straighteners are known as hair relaxers, keratin treatments and hair-smoothing products. They work by breaking and reforming the chemical bonds in keratin, which is the main protein that gives shape to each hair.

Google: keratin treatment warnings. About 2,620,000 results (0.36 seconds) 6-24-12.

The FDA has previously received complaints that the products cause adverse reactions, including nervous system problems such as headaches, respiratory tract problems, nausea, chest pain, vomiting and rashes.

Google: What Does Organic Mean for Beauty Products?

Hair-straightening products are allowed to contain small concentrations of formaldehyde (0.2 percent). But several hair-straightening solutions have been found to contain well above the allowable limit. For example, one popular hair-straightening product that advertised itself as âformaldehyde-freeâ actually contained 6.8 percent to 11.8 percent formaldehyde.
Another example: Fourteen women, including two from North Texas and one from Houston, are suing Unilever, the maker of a product they claim caused permanent damage to their hair.
"It transforms frizzy, unmanageable hair into hair that's sleeker and easier to style," said the commercial for the Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion 30-Day Smoothing Kit, which is no longer being sold
When she began looking online for more information about the product, she said she found some people who said it worked, but more who said it damaged their hair.
She discovered a Facebook page devoted to angry consumers, and there are multiple postings on YouTube. I've been warning people about relaxers since 2009 and people are giving me thumbs down!
BTW: A variety of hair-straightening products used in professional salons can expose both hairdressers and their customers to formaldehyde. The results show that three professional hair-smoothing treatments labeled "formaldehyde free" can produce the cancer-causing chemical at concentrations above the occupational exposure limits set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. They tested four products: Coppola Keratin Complex Blonde Formula, Global Keratin Juvexin Optimized Functional Keratin, La Brasiliana Escluso Keratin Treatment with Collagen, and Brazilian Blowout Acai Professional Smoothing Solution. While ChemRisk tested four popular brands of hair straighteners, THERE ARE HUNDREDS on the market. Nov. 11-11

By contrast, beauty salon owners and stylists generally lack a scientific background and don't have a keen awareness of the danger of working with products that contain formaldehyde, experts say.

Is it possible to reverse the effects of hair colouring or to remove hair colour from hair?

Q. I've dyed my hair several times over the last 2 or 3 years, and I realize it's impossible to get my natural hair colour back, but are there ways to remove hair dye from my hair? I've heard the term 'getting hair stripped', what does this mean? If there are procedures to remove hair dye, how much would this cost approximately?
Not sure if it matters, but my natural hair is a light dirty blonde, and I've dyed it a very dark brown as well as orangey red colours in the past, so right now it's an ugly brown with red tinge.
If I decide to let it just grow out, will I somewhat get my natural colour, even after years of dying?

Answer
Try just 'letting it grow' for about two months and then go get a 'crew cut' from your hair dresser ... the hair that is left will be your 'natural color' and that might be 'different' from the color your hair was before you started coloring it ... but it is still your 'natural color.' DO NOT HAVE ANY MORE CHEMICAL PROCESSES done to your hair. Eventually it will all 'grow out' and you'll have your 'natural hair color' again ... that 'crew cut' is just because you are 'sick of' your 'colored hair' ... and most women actually look really good with a 'crew cut' ... even for just as long as it takes to 'grow out' again ... and as to 'cost' ... I pay my hairdresser $30 for each 'haircut' he gives me, which is a bit on the 'high side' but I TRUST HIM with my hair, totally. You could go to a 'barber' and get it done for around $12 ... which isn't bad, considering how much you've 'damaged' your hair with all the 'color' you've put in it.
