Most people say that it is harmful to the baby to dye your hair during pregnancy...

Ive asked 3 cosmetologists/hair artists and they say
its not harmful, one said the only reason they say not to dye your hair is because your roots can change a different color when dying them? Orang-ish?

some people say its because of the fumes when I go to the salon.. there arent really any fumes now I would never use an at home hair coloring kit while pregnant because those fumes are KILLER

so, I'm just curious is this a myth?

and no rude answers please!

Answer
No you can die your hair, my friend is a hair colorist and worked until she had to take a leave of absence to have her baby and care for her. She was around fumes 8-10hours a day. She has 2 kids. She's done it with both. :) And they are 100% healthy.

Your fine.

Like everyone else said, your hormones are whacked out, so if you go in wanting to be blond and come out green you can't get mad at the colorist.

Anybody get their hair colored or hilighted during pregnancy?

It seems as though the topic of hair color and pregnancy is very controversial. Anybody know of anyone who had a baby with problems due to coloring or hilighting their hair....or do you hilight and/or color your hair.... How do you moms or moms to be feel about this. It also seems that there is no concrete evidence that it is dangerous. I realize that it is best to avoid it and not take a chance and I'm not but I was just wondering what you girls think about it.

Hair Dyes and Perms During Pregnancy

It's hard enough to feel beautiful when you're pregnant, but then along comes the warning that hair dyes and permanents might be harmful to a fetus. This subject causes great debate among hairdressers, doctors, researchers, and expectant mothers. In the end, all we know is that not much is known about the effects of these beauty products on the fetus.

Certainly there are chemicals in hair dyes and permanent solutions that are toxic and known to cause cancer and genetic mutations. The question is, how much does it take to cause this damage? Studies on animals that show harm to the fetus have used doses 100 times higher than would ever be used on your own head. As the debate rages on,you can safely keep your hair dyed and permed if you use a bit of caution.

* Avoid perming or dying in the first three months of your pregnancy.
* Choose semipermanent dyes over permanent dyes. Better yet, stick with natural henna products.
* Wear gloves and open the windows if you apply the solution yourself.
* Because the chemicals are absorbed into the bloodstream through the scalp, not the hair itself, it's probably safe to have your hair highlighted, frosted, painted, or streaked. These methods keep most of the dye away from the scalp.
