Gray hairs popping out, help!?

Michele

I have had a few gray hairs here and there since I turned 40, they were never a problem, they hardly showed. Now I turned 44 and they are taking over my head. I have always used hair color, applied by a stylist, an all over color with highlights. I used to go about 12 weeks between appts, because I was dealing with roots, not grays. Now grays are popping out within 2 weeks of my last appt. I can't afford to spend $100 + every 2 weeks to cover these uglies! What can I do? I have tried box formulas before and the color always turns out bad on me, I am med/dark brunette with gold highlights. How long should my color last to cover these grays?

Answer
This answer won't change the color of your hair but may slow the progression. Try using emu oil shampoo together with hair nutrition vitamins. Your hair is losing its "color" resulting in the gray tones. Emu oil shampoo penetrates the hair shaft and works well for slowing the progression of gray hair.

To completely hide the color, try a color enhancing shampoo. It will help subdue the color without expensive coloring treatments.

MY COUSiNS GRAY HAIR??

Q. My 13 year old cousin woke up one morning and came runnin in my room because she had one gray hair on her head..She is going through alot of stress with her grades, friends, and a boy she likes. Did it happen just because of stress??? And can I tell her that it will go away?? I also found out that her grandma got gray hair at 15 but her mom got gray hair at 30? So is it just Stress or Genes? And will it stop growing? Oh yea....she also told me that she takes hot showers and I heard it can stop blood from traveling to you hair??? HELP!!!!

Answer
Hair becomes white or grey due to the lack of pigment melanin in the hair. Since hair consists of dead cells, once grey or white hair is formed it cannot be changed. Hairs seems to become grey overnight, if the pigmented hair falls off quickly. The age at which a person's hair becomes white depends on hereditary factors, but diet , lifestyle and stress can also cause premature graying . . Some of the home remedies for preventing formation of grey or white hair are:

1. Amla or Indian gooseberry is a popular home remedy. If fresh amla are available , a paste of amla can made and applied to the hair. Dry amla can be ground into a powder, mixed with water and massaged into the hair. Otherwise amla hair oil can applied to the hair. Dried amla is also available for eating

2. Take black tea (without milk or sugar) and massage it on the roots of the hair. Leave it on the hair for an hour and then wash it away. This will coat the hair strand, hide the grey colour.

3.Massage the scalp with coconut oil (with lemon) or almond oil. Vegetable and essential oil also contain nutrients for slowing the greying of hair.

4. Processed foods and junk foods contain many preservatives and should be avoided. Fish and other seafood contain iodine which is required for melanin production. Also eat nuts and other food which contain copper.

5.Some people have used a mixture of blackstrap molasses, brewer's yeast and wheat germ to prevent formation of grey hair. However, blackstrap molasses may not be available in all countries.

6.Curry leaves are boiled in coconut oil and the mixture can be applied to the hair to prevent formation of white hair. Ribbed gourd should be soaked in coconut oil for 3 to 4 days and the mixture should be boiled. The oil produced should be massaged into the scalp.
