I want to know which is a better company to work for, also it is a sephora inside JCP if that makes a difference. All of the girls at both places seem really nice. I want to become a make up artist, which one has better opportunities? better training? more room to move up within the company? more training and gratis? I have heard sephora pays a little more. please help this is a hard decision!

4. Fun environment where the majority of fellow teammates are very vested in sephora's culture.
5. Lot's of growth potential from leadership, educator roles, and PRO Team.
6. You don't have to be licensed to work at Sephora as long as you are passionate about learning! You learn so much from experience and client interactions! There is NO WAY that as a makeup artist in school that you would have the opportunity to work on 60+ faces a day! Plus with different skin tones, concerns, shapes, etc.
7. Perfect for product junkies that just want to play with new products, experiment with colors, and SECRETLY shop while working on clients........ all day long! ;)
8. NON COMMISSION based. Team goals and bonuses. Monthly sales bonus and quarterly service bonuses. The highest level in sales bonus is like 25% of your gross monthly income!
Pros â Decent pay, lots of job perks including free product, overall fun work. Excellent training provided, and cash bonuses.
Cons â Very strict policies and procedures, little schedule flexibility- work on Holidays. weekends, etc. Difficult to advance quickly or transfer over to corporate side. Can be competitive among employees at times.
I worked at Ulta Beauty part-time for less than a year
Pros â You receive a nice discount on the high end beauty and skin care products. This also includes discounts for the hair salon, facials and the brow bar for locations that have these services.
Cons â Extremely poor pay, as well as not enough hours. Only the managers have full time hours so there is no opportunity for employee benefits unless you are full time.
When it is the end of your shift you could stand around for 10 to 15 minutes waiting for the manager to check your bag so you could leave the premises.
Pros â Training on products, good staff
Cons â Long Hours and Working Holidays
Pros â 25% employee discount
Benefits are great for young adults 18+
Great selection of makeup basically it's a one stop shop because they have high end products, drug store products, fragrance, a salon, nail products, hair products, pretty much everything and more
Cons â Hours can be poor and there's a lot of responsibility and rules you must follow by.
Pros â They have flexible hours if you are going to school. The discount is good.
Cons â Hours are dependent on how much store merchandise is sold for the week. This could be a good thing and a very bad thing at the same time.

Cons: Nobody in the beauty industry cares about Ulta because they do not train and create make up artists there, and no one cares that you have worked with a bunch of products found at Walmart or Target.Maybe it is just my store, but I know that this store has been like that for years and the fact that none of the higher-ups have ever done anything about any of this says a lot about the company.

Has anyone ever been to an Aveda school salon?

The one I might go to is in Denver but I'd like to know experience anywhere. I'm on a budget and I want highlights/cut/style. I love Aveda products and it says they have consultants but I'm wondering if it might still be a bad student doing hair experience like a few other places I've been. Help!

Aveda schools are just like any other. Going there for a service is chancy - keep in mind that they are all still learning. You may get lucky and be with someone who has lots of experience in home haircutting and coloring, but you don't get to choose who takes you. I work at a salon and one of our clients was short on cash and decided to go to the Aveda school here in Chicago. She had her hair colored (all one color) and cut. She came to us that same day practically crying because her haircut was just hideous. Yet, her color was fine. The color formulations are done by instructors, so all over color is less risky. Highlighting requires skill in the application, so if you're afraid of looking stripy or having bleed marks - you'd be better off going to a slightly more expensive salon (at least they're licensed and have more experience). Good luck!
