Where to get hair extensions in NYC?

Chelsea S

I live in NYC and I am looking for a salon or any place that sells hair extensions for a Caucasians hair. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars but I also don't want to look like I'm wearing fake hair.

Answer
Visit Patricia Hair Extensions salon. My personal experience, they have different varieties of extensions like Caucasians, fusion, Brazilian etc in different length and colors. Very affordable price too.

NYC salons?

Lindsay P

I've had the same haircut forever now. I'm always terrified to get it cut and colored for fear it will look horrendous. I've finally gathered the courage to blow my work bonus (small as it is) on a haircut in NYC. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a salon that could give me the best haircut of my life. I don't want to spend $500 for a haircut though. I also don't want some crappy place where I could get the same haircut at home without traveling 5 hours. I want to walk into work the next day and have everyone tell me I look amazing. Basically I want to walk into the salon and say "do whatever you want. Just make me beautiful."

If you have curly hair, devachan is the place to go!

Any good places to get my hair colored in El Paso, TX?

Elizabeth

Answer
Texas, or Oregon, NYC, or Chicago . . . . there are no best places to get your hair colored. There is never a guarantee about damaged hair, or hair loss, or hair color gone wrong, done @ home or salon.

Go to YELP or Craigslist and read reviews or post on their message boards there from your city, or search name of salon under Better Business Bureau.

Google Salon Hair Dye Lawsuits. About 336,000 results (0.17 seconds) Dec. 2011
When it comes to hair care treatments, product use or visits to a salon or spa, the consumer must take responsibility to do their homework and be aware of all the risks involved.
Vanessa Minnillo Lachey: "I dated a guy once who wanted me to have blonde hair. Clearly, he was the wrong guy for me! I went to a lady who bleached my hair and it literally fell out. So, not only did I go back to my natural hair, I broke up with the guy!"

One example: MY HAIR DRESSER DYED MY HAIR GREY. I've been crying for the last 2 hours, I want to kill that bish for destroying what was amazing bleach blonde hair. AND to make things worse, she cut my extensions WAY too short.

Playing with chemicals is not like playing with clothes, or doing a manicure, there are penalties for playing chemicals in the lab. Even hair color experts at the salon are not rocket scientists, they do a bang up dye jobs to their clients or their own hair.
Example: "My hair is right about armpit length as it is, but I've severely damaged it by bleaching it all at once. As a student of cosmetology myself, I would have to say that it was probably one of the worst mistakes I could have ever made."
Another example: ok i did my hair yesterday i DIDN'T bleach it ,but im not sure what its called but she took the color out of my hair and then dies it a blond color and my head was on fire it killed me so after that i hated my hair color so i colored it my self a darker color, it looked so ugly and it burned me again it rully hrt so after i washed it my mom checked it for me and found small spots of blood all over my top scalp like over 20 of em now im scared and don't know why its there is it from the color am i sick and something is wrong ??

The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. Itâs made from coal tar and is used in both permanent and semi-permanent hair colours. Itâs well-known to be a cause of serious allergic reactions -- including something called contact dermatitis which can lead to rashes, blisters, and open sores.
PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time.

Does anyone know a good, fairly reasonable priced salon in the NYC area where I can get my hair crazy colors?

cucuserpen

I want to have my hair purple, like really purple but I don't want to do it myself because i want it to look good .. lol. So anyone know a place? Preferably in Manhattan, but the boroughs are fine too .. or LI .. and not too like crazy high end :)

Answer
I love coloring my hair crazy colors. Right now my hair is for different colors xD all from the rainbow

I go to any salon and get my hair bleached, then apply the dye at home. If you don't want to do that, you can buy the dye separately and bring it with you. Most salons don't cary crazy colors, so you should get them on your own. I recommend colorsilk. It is the mot permanent color you can get, and it isn't frying for your hair like other colors can be.

Where are some hair salons in NYC that will dye your hair for cheap?

Zoe

I want to dye a streak of my hair pink. I already have a blonde streak and my hair is black. Do you know any places in NY that can dye my hair pink for a cheap price?
Or if anyone has dyed their hair a bold color and they had dark hair, can you please tell me how to do it? I tried doing it before but it didn't really work and I'm scared to ruin my hair unless someone who has done it before tells me how they did it. lol thank you so much!

<3 zoe
Yea 20 dollars isn't too bad but I tried dyeing my blonde hair pink, it didn't work out. It turned red and I really want a pink streak in my hair, lol. Last time I spent 25 dollars at this european hair salon but they didn't have pink so I chose blonde and I'm not exactly very happy with it. :)

Answer
Unfortunately, most salons in NYC will not dye your hair for cheap. Most salons charge at least $20 for color. Why not just dye your blonde streak pink? Manic Panic has semi-permanent dyes in various shades (including pink of course), so you can dye your hair pink and it can easily wash it out within a few weeks and you'll still have your blonde streak.

What can i use in my hair that will protect it from the sun?

Choco321

So i recently dyed my hair a brown color. I heard that being under the sun will make your hair dry and the color will fade more quickly. I will be out in the sun since its almost summer but i dont wont to damage my hair. What are some products or things i can do to make my hair maintain its color now while im in the sun? Is there is hair product with spf in it?

Answer
Chlorine, sun, and salt water can
all wreak havoc on a dye job, so
we looked for advice from our
favorite hair expert, stylist Chris Lospalluto from the Sally Hershberger salon here in NYC. He told us that oxidation, which
is a chemical reaction that
changes the color, is the biggest
problem. Both chlorine and sun
can cause oxidation, but
chlorine is the biggest enemy of colored hair. It can turn blonde
hair the dreaded green and can
give an ashy hue to brunette
hair. Prevention is the best thing
you can do so you donât have to
deal with the aftermath of the evil process of oxidation. The best preventative measure?
âCoat your hair with
SOMETHING,â Chris told us.
Ideas?
-Before you go in the pool put
in a leave-in conditioner. Thereâs no need for expensive brands.
-If you donât have anything else
available, coat hair with fresh
water, and make sure itâs really
wet. The water soaks in so hair
wonât be as absorbent to chlorine.
-Argan oil is another option. Itâs
light and clear, and will protect
without affecting the color. And what about if you leave the
pool and realize your hair is the
color of grass? According to
Chris, if itâs âveryâ green you
have to get professional help.
And if you experienced fading, donât try to re-dye itâyour hair
will be porous and hold the dye
unevenly. There are some home remedies
floating around out there, with
reported mixed results: 1) Baking soda: Mix w/shampoo,
lather in hair, let sit for 10-15
minutes.
2) Coca-Cola: This is possibly an
old wives tale but it intrigues us.
3) Crush aspirin in water and pour on head. (Seriously, though. Just go to
your salon to get it fixed.)

What highlights go well with mid brown hair?

I want to get highlights but i don't know what colour will suit me. What hairstyle should i go for? i was thinking about getting a fringe?

Answer
I say if anyone has a darker shade of brown, then a caramel/milk chocolate color always looks best. If you light brown then blonde would look good, but med/dark brown hair always looks best with caramel colored highlights :)

How to get rid of brassiness without dying hair?

best hair color salon nyc

best hair color salon nyc image

Valerie

I have naturally dirty blonde hair which I've never dyed, and I don't want to ever touch the color because I've always been really happy with it. However, I just moved to NYC and I think the water in my apartment might be funky, because my hair has been really brassy ever since I came here. I would really like to try a home remedy to get rid of it, if possible, because I don't have a lot of money to spend on expensive hair products. But any cheap-ish solutions would help.

Thanks!

Answer
Here are a few options:

1. Going after the root of the problem. Im guessing your new apartment has "hard water" in the shower, which causes the brassiness. But this can easily be fixed by visiting a store like Home Depot or Menards and asking for a hard water shower head. I heard it's relatively inexpensive too.

2. I don't know how well this works, but tea is a pretty powerful substance in a lot of aspects. People claim that it has properties that can tint the hair. I've heard stories of people pouring a cold cup of Lipton tea in their hair and sitting out in the sun for half an hour or so. It's worth a try, I suppose.

3. There's this chemical process at a salon called "toning". It's not dying, and it doesn't damage hair like dying does. It's pretty cheap, at least at the salon I work at. (My situation: got highlights done, they were waay too brassy, got hair toned, the brassiness was gone). At a Fantastic Sams salon, it costs a mere 10 dollars to get your hair toned. It's just like a colored shampoo, and takes only about 10 minutes or less. It's probably the most effective treatment, besides getting rid of the hard water in your shower.

Good luck with whatever route you take!
