Hi, I have horrible thick hair that is hard to control. What is the best way to tame it? :(
Answer
Heat & chemicals are hair's worst enemies. If you want curly hair, (or straight hair to tame your curly hair) look @ videos or hairstyles of women in the late 40's or 50's, and see how healthy & silky their curly hair was. Have you seen Miracle on 34th Street? Many women then wore hats, and pin-curled or plastic curlers curled HAIRSTYLES. The men too, have very shiny hair like the women . . .that was before Bumble & Bumble's production 70's, John Frieda's production 1988 or the invention of heating tools. Another way to find the secret to beautiful hair? Find someone with beautiful healthy curls or straight hair and ask him or her to share secrets, preferably someone who is 40-60 years older than YOU.

Start your curlers, where you want the curls to begin.
You can also pin curls your hair, if they're short to medium. You can also braid your hair the night before, after they've been wash, all night and sleep with them, and take the braids out in the morning. Finger comb to style. Use scarf to keep them from the wind.
HEAT PROTECTION, does not protect hair 100%. Like using sunscreen, you still get sunburned. Same with hair. Hair products are not made of glue to fix, prevent, reverse hair from getting damaged or hair loss, they ARE A TRILLION DOLLAR BUSINESS, and the hair industry also do not give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss caused by heat & chemicals.

Shampoo. Condition. Towel dry, scrunch with gel like Samy, or hand lotion, blow-dry using a diffuser briefly, tousle the hair, finger comb, shake your head & you're good to go. Add a small dollop (size of a quarter) of gel to keep hair from frizzing. If you don't have a diffuser, use a blow heat dryer on low for 5 mins. Give it a final rinse with carbonated or sparkling water. Sparkling water reduces frizz because of its low pH level. This is a good treatment if you often let your curls air-dry because it will help to eliminate the frizz caused by humidity.

Hair products are not made of glue to fix, prevent, reverse hair from getting damaged, frizzy, hair falls, etc. They are a trillion dollar business. In the 50's & 60's, we didn't have but shampoo & conditioner on the shelves, but look how good their hair back then, compared to the 80's (1st photo), when they started using heating tools! Heat & chemicals are hair's worst enemies. But for those people who know good hair care (me a good example), have always been dedicated in good products (plastic curlers), that helps tame their locks. They also make the hair softer, silkier, smoother, healthier. They are still are used today, where pampering hair is their number one goal, not selling hair products.
But to get from 1 to the other, you need to start with a good basic hair cut and a lot of hair manipulation. One is the use of a round pro brush, or plastic curlers. Google on youtube, how to use one of those.
Soft, shiny & healthy hair comes from: Good genes. Good hair care. Good foods from Mother Nature not made my man like John Frieda or supplements found @ GNC. Those products can only do more harm than good.. You'll get 12 responses, suggesting 12 different brands.
I've used the same cheapest shampoo Garnier for Normal Hair for over 15 years (no conditioner - we have soft water). When traveling, I briefly rinse with bottled water. Celebrities rinsed theirs with Perrier water. ~ InStyle mag. You can also use plastic curlers to set your hair, to get them silkier, softer, smoother. Blow dry. Take them out. Brush to style or tousle with your fingers. Retro styles are back!
Washing less often, builds the natural oil your hair needs, to get them smoother, shinier, silkier, softer. Man-made products are just temporary, until you wash them again, and at the same time washing off the natural oil your hair NEEDS. Hair product just absorbs on your hair if they're dry, like a sponge.
Itâs the dirty little secret shampoo companies donât want you to knowâwhen you wash your hair with one of those nutrient-rich shampoos, most of the nutrients and active ingredients in the product donât actually end up in your hair, they wind up down the drain⦠along with all the money you spent on the shampoo.
Why does this happen? Because the shampoo molecules they contain are too large to penetrate the cells of hair and more importantly the tiny hair follicles where our hair actually grows. They sit atop the follicle until we wash them away.
Why is that a problem?
Our hair works basically the same wayâif you want to treat your hair right, you need to treat the roots.
HOW you use to style your hair or what styling tools that damage the hair, and what chemicals you're adding to the hair, not the shampoo.
Best advice from Hollywood's well known hairstylist in the 80's once said: "Keep foods in your mouth and hair products on your hair."
If you've straightened your hair in the past, it may grow slowly or none at all.
