How to color your hair at home with Goldwell Elumen?

Yes, I know Goldwell Elumen is a professional Salon hair color product. But some of us can't afford to go to salon's but you can buy these products online so I thought I'd give it a try. I will also try it on one hair strand before doing it on all of my hair of course.

Problem is though, I can't seem to find a guide on how to color with these colors anywhere. I've only heard that if you mix it with water it gets totally ruined. Anyone who can help this girl with ugly boring hair? The color I was thinking of was their PK@all, the super pink one.

One of my dear friends recently got married and when I saw his wife-to-be walk down the aisle wearing an all white gown that was designed for a 20-something year-old body, I couldn't help but feel that it was very inappropriate - almost lacking etiquette, class or taste. I was a 53 years old divorcee with four adult children when I married for the second time.

I wore garnet red....I felt at my age, while white is just another color, to wear a gown of any color designed for a young woman would look ludicrous on me... and make my age glaringly apparent in a rather very unflattering way.

It certainly would have been tasteless...one should dress appropriate to one's age to look one's best at ANY AGE......

When I was growing up in the 60's we had a group of 60+ ladies the town called "The Go-Go Grandmas " They wore tight very short mini skirts, fishnet stockings, huge dangle earrings, white go-go boots and long flowing hair as if they were a mere 16 years old.....OMG if they only KNEW how they looked to others...it made them look so 'OLD' and not too classy either....


However, their choice.

You are not old fashioned, dear....just sensible with a better grasp of both reality and style than the bride was-who is probably the type who dresses way too 'young' for her age.
She should have gone for a sophisticated rather than a Miss Haversham look...sweet, innocent young styles look silly on a mature body. It does NOT make one look youthfull..it makes them far older than they are.

Once your friend sees how she looks in her pix, unless she has convinced herself she looked young, she may be very disappointed so please, do not say anything as long as she is happy.

Since she'll be dancing, you wouldn't want it in her hair.
If her hair is long enough, you could try pulling it back into a messy bun and leave a few wavy pieces out in the front tucked behind her ears. Or you could curl it and put it into a pony tail.

I wouldn't be totally offended, but it would definitely prove how much you value my hair.

I'm actually balding already a little bit (in my early 20's yuck), but it doesn't bug me all that much. If a girlfriend/wife sincerely wanted me to do all that I can to keep a full head of hair, I'd consider it then. Otherwise, short hairstyles for now, and probably a shaved look later.

The real question is how much would it concern you if your boyfriend/husband did go bald?

How long after washing, and combing my hair, can I dye my hair?

I've been told that if I dye my hair immediately after washing, and combing my hair, my scalp with get blisters. So, that being said, how long should I wait before dying?

I don't know WHO are giving you advice, but I've responded to many girls (guys now too) under 15 experiencing in hair loss since 2009, due to hair straightening, relaxers and hair dyes. Women 60-90 have those same symptoms but it took them years to get there. But for 15 & under, giving advice here? They can't predict the future of their hairs, until they're in their 30's, but 15 & under with hair loss? C'mon! I've responded 7 in 2 hours 9-3-10, (before school started) 4 in 1hour 3-5-11 alone. 3 in 1hr. 8-8-11, 6 in 15 mins. 11-10-11.

One Example who had a bad reaction to BLEACHING:
never bleach my hair before, I turned 13 yesterday and i've dyed my hair dark brown about a couple of weeks ago? I've had dark blonde highlights t section before the dark brown so In my dyed dark brown i put some bleach so it will turn to blond strands... 25 minutes later it itches and it feels like its swelling where the bleach is :( OWWW.. I don't wanna take it out tho I like the look which would be the result! I did the skin test for idk 40 minutes maybe less....... no reaction. but head swelling feeling and itchy. i have never bleached b4.

If you're not affected today, or next month, you may never be affected and you're one of the lucky ones. It doesn't take overnight, it takes years of hair experimentation with hair dyes.

I just happened to be watching a special on those women this prior to going to work on âTodayâ. And one of the former female members of that society who was able to escape was explaining their looks, style of dress, mannerisms, and even language.

She explained that what most people fail to realize is that the large majority of the female population that practiced that religion where born into it. They where taught to be obedient, too speak a certain way, and how to dress. Itâs almost comparable too some of the women in the Middle East. They where never allowed to go anywhere outside the compound, so all theyâve known through out their lives is what was passed too them by the men who ran the sect.

She goes into further detail and states that every family is assigned a certain color. And that each color represents the âsocial statusâ of the family that dawns it. Say for example, (because my favorite color is Navy Blue, Iâll use this color). If I was to marry a man within the sect, and his color was Navy Blue, then upon marriage his color was passed to me, so that I may show I belong to him. And this color could mean that we where higher on the social structure latter then someone who family color was lilac. Everything they do is based on the status of their husbands. Even down to cut of the dresses they wear (which are all hand made) and the height of the âswoopâ at crown of their head (the higher the swoop, the higher the status), they donât wear make up (to keep the natural beauty) and I think she said something about their undergarments where also a symbol of the religion. She said the dresses covered the garments thatâs servers the purpose of being a symbol of religious purification.

Most of the women in the compound where married off to the older men once they reached puberty (12 â 16 years of age). They even had a special room with a âmarriage bedâ that was used to consummate the marriage (in the chapel) after exchanging their vows. So when these women and children where taken from the compound by gun point, it was like a culture shock too them to exist in a world outside the vacuum they where born and bread into. This is the reason why the majority of them returned to the compound after being release from policy custody. Even the English they speak is based on the vocabulary foundation of words that the early settlers here in America used. This is all due in part to the special education the women would receive apart from the men.

Did you notice when some of the women where on T.V., they had that deer in the head lights look? Itâs because most of them where afraid of disappointing their husbands by even speaking out on T.V. about their religious practices, for fear of being outcasted by their society. Iâm sure âJohnoâ and âGuns Fanâ would love to have one of these women to âhave and to holdâ. A woman that canât think for herself is right up their ally.

Local authorities still canât find the 16 year old girl that called and reported them. She and her husband (who I think is in his late 40âs early 50âs) are still unaccounted for. I feel sorry for any woman that has to live that sort of life. Did you know that the lead of the sect was a convicted child rapist also? Look it up on either MSNBC or Foxnews.com. If Iâm not mistaken, I think he served some time prior to becoming their leader.

What color should I dye my hair?

I have a pale skin tone and I want a grunge look. Ok so think Frances Bean. Same skin tone. Love her hair! When it's blonde. But the thing is, I don't want it blonde. I tried doing the ombre thing at home but I ruined it x(

Red hair is VERY hard to maintain, i warn you, but it looks AMAZING! If you go for a red, i suggest you touch it up about every 4 weeks. Or just whenever it starts to fade. Also, red is a bugger to get out, and will take a long time to get rid of when you want to change again. :)

I'm sat with my boyfriend and asked him what he thought would help to improve your looks as you asked. He replied "I'm dog ugly and I've got a girlfriend. Just tell him to wait. - Besides, he's not ugly."

So, that's his advice! (; (but he's not ugly! - he just thinks he is) and that's probably your problem too!

Anyway, I don't think you need to try and improve your looks. I think you look perfectly fine. (:

But if you really are conscious of your appearance, then it's always the clothes that make a big difference. When looking at your appearance, I get the idea that a style that would suit you best is "sophistication", so, here goes! ^-^

I'd ditch the light blue jeans - they are seemingly going out of fashion now (especially with the girls' attention) - dark colours are more trendy now, in straight leg or skinny styles. Try shopping around in Topman, Asos, H&M, Next, Ebay, Amazon, Joe Browns (This shop is great for trendy styles! Check it out!), Primark, House of Fraser, Debenhams & Ted Baker. They are always ontop with clothing - check out the mannequin dolls for further inspiration if you need it. (:

I know this isn't a local site, but I am desperate.....
I live in Philadelphia.
I always hate my haircuts, even though the hairdressers pretty much give me what I ask for. Can anyone recommend someone who will work with me? Who will tell me flat out, "no that won't look good on you, here are some suggestions." Oh and who isn't too expensive. It would be great to come out with a finished look for under $65. I don't want my hair colored-just cut, dried, and styled. But I can't afford paying $40 for the cut, and another $35 for the blowdry, and then some for them to do the finishing touch. Is there a place out there in the greater Philadelphia area that meets my criteria or will I just have to keep tryng new styles?

Melanin is the same stuff that makes our skin's color fair or darker. It also helps determine whether a person will burn or tan in the sun. The dark or light color of someone's hair depends on how much melanin each hair contains.

As we get older, the pigment cells in our hair follicles gradually die. When there are fewer pigment cells in a hair follicle, that strand of hair will no longer contain as much melanin and will become a more transparent color - like gray, silver, or white - as it grows. As people continue to get older, fewer pigment cells will be around to produce melanin. Eventually, the hair will look completely gray.

People can get gray hair at any age. Some people go gray at a young age - as early as when they are in high school or college - whereas others may be in their 30s or 40s before they see that first gray hair. How early we get gray hair is determined by our genes. This means that most of us will start having gray hairs around the same age that our parents or grandparents first did.

Gray hair is more noticeable in people with darker hair because it stands out, but people with naturally lighter hair are just as likely to go gray. From the time a person notices a few gray hairs, it may take more than 10 years for all of that person's hair to turn gray.

Designers like Chanel, Dior, and Elsa Schiaparelli started designing glamorous attire that allowed women to show off their feminine curves. Hairstyles became more feminine than they had been in the 1920s. Hair color varied depending on which movie star one was trying to emulate. Jean Harlow made platinum blond a trend, meanwhile, Rita Hayworth made being a redhead popular. Last, but not least, Marlene Dietrich represented for all the brunettes out there. Makeup became a little less drag, and more girl-next-door than in the '20s. The pasty white skin trend was finally passé, and women started opting for foundations closer to their natural complexions.

The 1950's:
The desired shape in the mid-century was the hourglass figure. Rule number one of the 50s was that women were never supposed to leave the house looking sloppy-- meaning that our convenience store runs in sweatpants and sneakers would have been deemed completely unacceptable. Hair was usually kept short at just below the shoulders, and was worn in soft, curly, or wavy styles. Straight styles were considered undesirable-- so rollers became a girlâs best friend. Women began to focus more on having flawless skin than anything else. The goal was a peaches and cream complexion.

The 1960's:
Mimicking the popular skinny models of the day women became obsessed with being rail thin. In terms of fashion and beauty, two polar opposites emerged: the hippie flower child and the modern swinging 60s woman. The hippies put more of an emphasis on peace and love, than on style and beauty. On the other hand, the âTwiggy-girlâ put some time into her appearance and body. Luck for all the guys out there, mini skirts became popular again. Hippies went for low to no maintenance hairstyles. They usually avoided makeup all together. More modern girls also went for low maintenance 'dos, but they opted for short pixie cuts as opposed to long hair. The big emphasis was on the eyes -- bigger and wider the eye appeared, the better. Fake eyelashes were a must-have, and mascara was applied to achieve the popular tarantula lashes.

The 1970's:
The 60s forever changed the way women viewed their bodies. By the 1970s, the thinking-thin phenomenon was in full force. It was official-- being thin equaled being sexy. Clothing was loose and flowing, but the mini skirt of the 60s gave rise to the micro mini of the 70s. The late Farrah Fawcett revolutionized the way women styled their hair. Her long, layered, feathery haircut became the look that every woman wanted to have. This decade also marked the beginning of the bronzed beach look and with it, the popular tanning booth trend. Women began relying on bronzers and self-tanners, things many women (and some men) still canât do without.

The 1980's:
The aerobics exercise craze of the 80s further emphasized fitness for women. Women were expected to maintain a certain weight, but still appear toned-- all without being too muscular. This decade also epitomized over-the-top fashion. Bright neon, matching suits with football player-sized shoulder pads, and spandex were just a few of the quintessential trends of the decade. 80's hair = big and hairspray. Over-the-top makeup was the look of the day. Women opted for brighter colors, like the infamous blue eye shadows and liners. Also bushy eyebrows were considered very sexy.

The 1990's:
Models like Kate Moss further perpetuated standards of extreme thinness. The âheroin chicâ trend also came about in the 90s-- a strung-out and emaciated appearance was the coveted look. Thanks to a few rebellious kids in Seattle, the 90s also gave rise to the popular grunge look-- evidenced by flannel shirts and an overall unkempt look. On the other side of the spectrum, the spandex and fluorescent color trends of the 80s stuck around for a good part of the 90s. Lycra was introduced, becoming perhaps the biggest trend of the decade. There is only one colour of henna; red. Anything else is either henna mixed with indigo or other plants, or chemicals.

Henna on your hair will take a couple of days after you dye it to become its final colour, so always wait for that before dyeing again.

I use Lush henna for the convenience. But powdered henna or premixed from either of these websites (http://www.hennacaravan.com/hennakits.html and http://artisticadornment.com/henna_tattoo_supplies/) is just as good if not better.

Pure henna will not damage your hair at all.

Hi. I already asked a question about this but I forgot a couple details. Okay..

History of my hair-
When I was younger I always wore my hair natural. I am African-American and partially Native-American so my hair (in it's natural state) is coarse and SUPER THICK. My hair color is black with natural red undertones. My mom managed my hair for me and kept it pretty healthy and wanted to keep my hair natural for as long as possible. Then my mom decided it was time for me to start getting my hair relaxed. I first got it relaxed a little bit after I turned 12. I've been getting it relaxed about every 10 weeks since then. Also, I've never dyed my hair, never used any bleach or peroxide. Nope, nothing. I have went to get bangs cut a couple of times and the person who relaxes my hair cuts off the split ends of my hair every once in awhile.

Now: I'm almost 15 and my hair is slightly past shoulder-length. Right now, I'm trying to grow my hair a little longer. I use a shampoo & conditioner that does not use parabens, silicones, sulfates, alcohol, blah blah blah and it's mineral and plant based. I wash my hair once a week ( I wait 2 weeks after I relax it) and I deep condition my hair and I oil it. And I use this product chi silk infusion which I LOVE. I like my natural hair color. When I part my hair, sometimes you can see the lighter parts of my hair. Now, since I like my natural hair color for the most part and don't want to go through the trouble of my roots or anything, I only want to dye the tips of my hair. I honestly don't care if the ends of my hair turn out super bright or if they're just tinted a different color. I just want it to look a little different. Now here's what I want and don't want.

1. I don't want to have to use bleach or anything that will cause bad damage/breakage to my hair or leave it dry.
2. The dye or whatever has to be safe to use on my hair and I would prefer it to be a natural product.
3. If you EXTREMELY suggest I just leave my hair alone, please tell me.

Also, I'm going to wait until my hair is at the desired length before I do anything. Plus I am looking for great haircare tips and products in general :) Thank you!

First of all, heat & chemicals are hair's worst enemies. The relaxers on your head, already contains formaldehyde causing cancer. If they're dye, they're all chemicals, even Henna which is supposed to be better for you than reg. box dye. It's a good read! Google: Henna for Hair Warnings.

Celebrity wears two-tone hair dye all the time, trying to grow out their dye. They call that look ombre hair color â darker roots, lighter ends â but colorists sees that fading. Hair dyes, which include home hair colouring kits and those used at pricey salons, are linked to deadly cancer-causing chemicals, warn scientists. In 2009 the Mail revealed that women who used hair dyes more than nine times a year had a 60% greater risk of contracting blood cancer.
A year later the European Commission banned 22 hair dyes which put long-term users at risk of bladder cancer. < < < <

Your hair is the most fragile of all hair types. They snap & break easily. So you need more TLCs than thin hair. No chemicals. No relaxers specially! No heating styling tools. Finger comb is best or use a wide tooth comb. Do what Oprah & Michelle Obama have been, going natural, using plastic curlers to set their hair. Use oil or conditioner to keep them moisturized. Heat & chemicals are your hair's worst enemies.

The hair of many black women is very fragile and studies have demonstrated that normal brushing and combing the hair can result in breakage. Brushing your hair 100-times a day is a no-no for your hair. Only comb and brush your hair to style it. Also avoid rubber bands or other implements that can physically cut into and break the hair shaft.
