Hair color???

Shanti M

I recently dyed my blond hair red with color pulse and I "tried" to color it blond again but it turned out to be a funny mixture of red on my roots and blonder when it get to the ends and I wanted to dyed it again with a semi colored red in the natural instinks because it's really ugly and I don't want to bleach it to get the red out. But i'm scared that the color won't turn out like the one on the box because I JUST dyed it? will it affect the hair color on the box if I recently dyed my hair with a permenant blond color?

Answer
Yes. your hair might turn out to be a brassy orange color with some red highlights and probably some blonde highlights.

I believe color pulse lasts for 8 - 10 washes. Your best bet was to wait out those few washes and if you wanted a red in your hair again, then put in the natural instincts. Your color almost always won't be the same as the box, but it can get pretty close.

Just keep washing your hair until you get most of that other color out before dying again. If you keep dying your hair, you can damage your scalp and lose your hair. Find a way to have your hair up in the meantime to hide some of the discolorations in your hair.

box hair color? or salon color?

is box hair color better ?than going to the salon and getting it done?

i have only dyed my hair once with the box brand .i straighten my hair ONCE or twice a week and i had a perm done 2 months ago.

so if i dye my hair light /darkesh brownish .from the box dye will it stay ? or should i go to the salon?

and if i do dye it by box dye ..then how long should i keep it in for i t to be locked in? or are their extra products i should put in my hair for it to stay in their ..Also when i flat iron it should i wait a few hours or days to flat iron?

Thank you :)

Answer
Salon hair color is better than box color. The quality is much better and isn't so harsh on your hair. If you go to the salon, the stylist can evaluate your hair to determine if your hair can take the color and if she needs to do something before hand to ensure the color takes and is even. After coloring your hair, wait about 3 days to shampoo, using a color shampoo and conditioner. Do not shampoo very often. You can flat iron right away.

What should my characters hairstyle/hair color be?

She's blind, and she's royalty. She isn't the uptight do what I say kind of princess, she's a little more "emo"/"goth" I guess. She lives in a Halloween town. (no, the people are not monsters, they just dress....darker. Gothic like. Girls wear Gothic Lolita type dresses and boys wear those gothic pants and a gothic shirt.) So, since she's royalty she has a long dress (kimono like) that has red going down the sides and black all around with a red (HUGE) ribbon that ties around with the family crest in the middle (on the front). So, with this information, could you guys suggest hairstyles/colors for me :)

Answer
Going with the gothic type theme a good idea would be to use long (meaning the longest part being around the middle of the shoulder blades) dark hair preferably black. Being of royalty she can have purple (color of prosperity and royalty) or red (color associated with energy and life) highlights considering the rest of her attire has some sort of red. I say to add a highlight of a royal color or a color that stands out because it will help draw attention to her face. If you want to go for a little bit less done look give her a short kind of messy look, it will be important to find some other way to keep her royal if that's the case messy won't convey royalty as well as well kept long hair.

Answer
It's not a this or that answer.

Right now, I have no clue the texture & condition of your hair. What color you see on the box, there is never a guarantee your hair will look exactly like that. Since we have no idea the original color of your hair NOW.

Style meets chemistry meets biology: We're talking hair coloring.

Hairstyles for fine hair?

42296

I'm getting a haircut soon and I don't know what to do with my hair. My hair is straight, and it has layers in it but I'm getting really bored with it. It falls a little past my shoulders, and I definitely do not want short hair. Any hairstyle ideas, for medium length, fine, straight hair?

Answer
Hairstyles that's layered and THIN will only make the hair look thinNER.

There are ways to help manipulate thin hair to look thicker.

One method to make your hair look fuller, add body, bouncier, thicker, more volume, softer & shiny hair is to set your hair with plastic curlers, (not Velcro) you'll end up with uniform balance of curls. Blow dry while curling them in curlers. Take them out, and finger comb, use a brush, give it a good shake all of the above. Your hair will fall nicely, plus you'll ged rid of all the sectioning parts. You'll get the bombshell trifecta: lift at the roots, volume at the sides, and a soft swing. Used by the best hair color models, and the fashion industry, like Victoria Secret Fashion Show Dec. 2009 & 2010, (backstage getting ready) America's Next Top Models, Toddlers & Tiaras, EXPRESS models seen in Glamour magazine Sept. issue, and are continued to be used today where salons care about pampering your hair. Even Oprah uses them! (while she's getting an interview backstage). When you see hair on TV (Dancing with the Stars backstage) a hair color commercial, they're not done by curling or straightening tools. Hair that shines like that and feels like hair, not hay, has to be done by the best hair tools available w/out damaging to the hair. When you take the curlers out, finger comb to style or lightly brush. Tousle the hair up. or shake your hair. You can use large, medium or small curlers, that depends on the length of your hair. Think of JLo's hair, she was voted as the Sexiest Woman by People magazine and Glamour's Woman of the Year 2011.

Google: Imogen Thomas wears rollers in her hair to take out the trash.

You can use this method: Towel dry, even blow dry it 75% dried if your hair is thick, braid your hair in several sections. In the morning, take the braids out, finger comb & you're good to go. Should last for days or until your next shampoo. If you want tighter curls, more sections for each braids. If you want looser curls, less sections, but won't last as long, depending on the weather.

If you want curls at the ends, too, instead of stick straight, curl the ends with plastic curler, support with clips on each side (4 clips total for each curler), and use rubber bands to attach to each V-sides, like perming rods. That way they will stay put when you sleep.

what tones go with yellow and olive skin.?

Sabrina

do cold tones go with yellow and olively skin or warm tones and can you please list hair colors that go with both tones warm and cold thanks.

Answer
Dark (warm) hair colors look good on yellow and olive skin. Light (cold) hair colors are for pale people. Hair color that will go with both olive skin and pale skin is light brown. Something like this: http://woohair.com/large/Light_Brown_Henna_Hair_Dye_4.jpg

What color should i dye my hair with my pale skin?

britt_b_e

I usually dye my hair blonde, but since i have well water it tends to turn my hair an orange color. I also have dark roots. I want to get a brownish color, but i cannot find a color that i think would suit me, any ideas? i would appreciate links/pictures. thank you
( I have ivory skin. )

Answer
Your hair color should suit your complexion. Any hair color will look good on pale skin. If you have pink skin, avoid shades of red or golden blonde. Opt instead for ash tones to neutralize your coloring. Sallow complexion? Stick with deep reds & avoid yellow, gold or orange tones. If your skin is olive, stick with dark colors & add richness with lowlights in red or brown shades.

Is there any home products i can use to lighten my hair this color?

Xiotchi

i have dark brown hair and i want it this color without having to re-dye it or go to a salon.

http://www.haircolorsideas.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/light-brown-hair-color.jpg

is there any house products i can use? i heard of cinnamon and honey being able to lighten hair but will it get it this color?

Answer
I know this isn't a home product but it's pretty amazing and it definitely works. I recently used John Frieda's Go Blonder Spray. It's just a spray that you use on wet hair after you get out of the shower and then blow dry. I had jet black hair so i had my doubts but then I used it and now my hair is the brown shade i wanted. For me it took about 7 days to notice results because of how dark my hair was, but for you it should be different if your hair is already brown. It's great because you can control how light your hair gets just by the amount of spray you use. It's really easy and it goes for about 6 dollars in my area. Hope this helps!

How can i maintain my colored hair?

m.

Ok well yesterday i colored my hair a dark red color at a salon... Im using John Frieda Radiant Red shampoo and conditioner.. what else can i use/do to help keep my hair from fading or anything.. Any good products you have used before?

Thanks!

Answer
I send all my hair color clients home with shampoo, conditioner and a leave-in product designed for color treated hair. Keep in mind that there are products for "color treated hair" and there are "color safe" products". What you need are the "colored treated.." variety. Since you are already using a shampoo and conditioner designed for color treated hair, you just need the color preserving leave-in product. These links go to a few of my favorites as good examples of what will help keep your hair healthy and minimize fading. I use the Paul Mitchell on every client that sits in my chair. I send the Matrix product home with every client that swims and I use the Wella product on every client that has problems with tangles. Good luck

How long do I leave food colouring in my hair?

Elle

My mum wont let me use hair dye, So I am going to use food colouring and conditioner unless I should use shampoo.
I don't know how long to leave it on do I leave it in for 1 or 2 hours or 2 and a half hours?

Answer
Hey :) You can leave the food coloring in over night with a towel on your pillow, as a previous answerer said, it washes right out but I found that the red stays in much longer than any of the other colors as it is the most potent of all. I made purple with blue and red and it washed out into a maroon color because the red kept hold of some blue. A good thing to use would be Gension Violet or Macurochrome, I've used both before and the Macurochrome lasts much longer than the Gension Violet but the Gension Violet looks way prettier than the Macurochrome - It does this whole bluey/purple thing which I really like. Hope I helped :)

BRITTLE DRY HAIR W/ NASTY COLOR?

Sydney

MY HAIR IS SO DRY ITS BREAKING OFF!
and it turned grey from black hair dye, i dont want to strip the color cause my hair might break off :(
but this grey is so ugly. help with repair??? what do i do to fix this WHOLE mess?

Answer
Your hair is breaking of for a reason: how you've been caring for your hair, what chemicals you're using, and what heating tools you use.

Natural hair means no relaxer, no chemical to straighten your hair out, no styling heating tools. The way it grows out your root, thatâs the way you rock it.

CARE: 1. Washing less often, builds the natural oil your hair needs, to get them smoother, shinier, silkier, softer. Man-made products are just temporary, until you wash them again, and at the same time washing off the natural oil your hair NEEDS. Hair products just absorb on your hair if they're dry, like a sponge. Shampoo & condition is all you need.
Jessica Simpson have figured it out, she said she wash her hair every week. She used to abuse her hair, then start selling hair extensions because her hair starting falling from all the chemicals, but she woke up and found out how to keep her hair healthy AGAIN.

When you wash your hair with one of those nutrient-rich shampoos or conditioners, most of the nutrients and active ingredients in the product donât actually end up in your hair, they wind up down the drain⦠along with all the money you spent on the shampoo. It is HOW you use to style your hair or what styling tools that damage the hair, and what chemicals you're adding to the hair, not the shampoo or conditioner.

2. If you want your hair soft, you can briefly blow dry it, set them in curlers or pin curls them, blow dry, let them cool off, take the curlers &/or pins, finger tousle the hair or brush lightly to style. They will be silky & soft & shiny (for straight hair).

3. Cutting your split ends yourself, spend 5-10 mins. on a sunny day so you can easily spot them, using a 2" scissors, cut strand by strand, section by section, allowing new growth to take over. Then 2x a year, get a good hair cut. This won't speed things up, but it will make the hair look healthier while it's growing. Even healthy hair like mine get them, due to normal brushing & styling.

DIET: If you've straightened your hair in the past, it may grow slowly or none at all.
Google: "Foods for Healthy Hair" - Your hair may be the fastest-growing tissue in the body but, unlike the skin, it cannot repair itself. That is why getting the right balance of vitamins and proteins is imperative. Don't expect to look like you've stepped out of a hair commercial the day after you've changed your diet. It is likely to take at least three months before you actually see tangible results.

Growing healthy hair doesn't come from a bottle or pills and hair products do not speed hair growth. Any hair oil, is another form to keep hair moisturized, nothing more. If you're in HS, your hair & nails should be growing normally, and as healthily as possible, since you're eating healthy foods. But when hair isn't growing as fast, it's because they've been tampered with: chemicals, hair straightening, etc. . .

Why has my hair gone limp and lifeless?

jasmine

I wash my hair every day, use a volumising mousse, blow dry then straighten

Until literally two weeks ago my hair was full of volume and colour, now it has literally gone mousey and limp.

Is there any remedies I can use ?

Also is there anything I can do to get my hair to grow quicker ?

thanks x

Answer
You have several issues here. Let's tackle one at a time:

1. ALL HAIR STRAIGHTENERS, no matter what brand, who sells them, how much you paid for them, ALL damage the hair. Read what it's doing to their hair, even the most expensive salon products: Hair loss, hair falling, split ends, hair not growing normally. I've responded to many girls under 15, experienced in hair falls since 2009. I've responded 7 in 2 hours, 9-3-10.

Volumizing mousse or any hair products won't help make hair more volume, they're just tricks of the trade used by the hair industry to help 'dirty' up hairs so they can be styled better instead of working on silky, smooth hair like mine. That's why I shampoo every 4th day, by then it's easier to work with.

2. One method to make your hair look fuller, add body, bouncier, thicker, more volume & shiny hair is to set your hair with plastic curlers, you'll end up with uniform balance of curls. Blow dry while curling them in curlers. Take them out, and finger comb to style. Used by the best hair color models, and the fashion industry, like Victoria Secret Fashion Show Dec. 2009, America's Next Top Models, EXPRESS models seen in Glamour magazine Sept. issue, and are continued to be used today where salons care about pampering your hair. When you see hair on TV a hair color commercial, they're not done by curling or straightening tools.
Niecy Nash - Dancing with the Stars recently seen using it backstage, too!
http://abc.go.com/shows/dancing-with-theâ¦
Even used in Miley's newest hairstyle.
http://stylenews.peoplestylewatch.com/2010/06/21/miley-cyrus-dramatic-new-haircut/

The hair industry is a billion dollar business, their aim is to make tons of profits, and they do not give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss. Shampoo is meant to clean (Google it), and if they do other things like GROW, OR MAKE YOUR HAIR MORE VOLUME, they're lying. It's all about marketing to attract more buyers.

The photos you see in the magazine ads or TV advertisements, took a lot of manipulation: hairstylists to do hair, photographers & his assistant to adjust lighting, and several shots of films, and the model 8 hours to be photographed. It's the trick for the hair industry to sell and temp the buyers. Their job is to make tons of money, but they don't tell you everything why, what, when and how. They also don't give you money back guarantee for damaged hair.

If your hair is stick straight & you want curls to last for days or until your next shampoo, braid them in several small sections, finger comb & you're good to go. You don't need products for that. Same with curling your hair, using plastic curlers. The more sections, and smaller the braids, the tighter the curls. The bigger the braids, less sections, the looser the curls.

3. It may grow very slowly or none at all if you've straightened your hair in the past.

You get the strength & all your vitamins & minerals & proteins FREE from the good foods you eat from Mother Nature, not made by man, and no shampoo can help grow hair, not even those made for horses. Horses don't abuse their hair, using heating tools, and they eat better than people, but it won't add more hair & make their hair longer faster.Shampoo intended for animals may contain insecticides or other medications for treatment of skin conditions or parasite infestations such as fleas or mange. These must never be used on humans.
Prenatal vitamins don't make your hair grow. Pregnant women have to start taking care of their bodies when they're pregnant, meaning stop smoking, drinking, dyeing or perming their hair SO OF COURSE their hair start growing again. But it has nothing to do with their hair, it has something to do to help the development of their unborn child.

"Foods for Healthy Hair" - the website had moved, type it in.

Can putting relaxer in your hair removie the highlights?

Ravenclaw

I've recently highlighted my hair and now I am interested in getting a Brazillian relaxer. But will that make the color in my hair come out?

Answer
Putting one chemical on top of another is both lethal, can cause instant hair falls, specially if your hair is thin or Afro-Amer. hair which are two of the most fragile hair texture of all.
I wouldn't recommend them. There are many brands of hair straightening out there and they call them anyway they want to get your attention. Coco is another name brand. Some Japanese hair straightening processes can damage the hair and leave it flat and lifeless.
None is better than the other.

Here's the newest news:
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently seized tens of thousands of bottles of "Rio" hair relaxer products after determining they can cause severe hair loss or turn hair green.

The FDA last month warned consumers not to use "Rio Hair Naturalizer Systems," a product imported from Brazil and sold through television infomercials by World Rio Corp. of Los Angeles.

The official complaints against hair straightening products range from serious hair breakage and hair damage to serious scalp burns that may require an emergency room visit.
Example of what one suffering severe hair loss after Japanese Hair Straightening from YA HAIR:
I got my hair rebonded back in March and have lost more than a third of it since then. Everytime I run my hands through my hair, I lose 7-10 strands on average!
In the shower I lose clumps after shampooing and conditioning.
Bald spots are showing up in my hair.
I used to have beautiful thick hair, ho can I get it back?

Another ex: I used to have very curly, beautiful hair..and then i got it chemically straightened..DONT DO IT! when it started growing out, it was mess and even more difficult to work with than before. and once it was completely grown out, my hair was no longer curly..it is now this aweful wavy mess, and only certain spots are still curly.

What hair colour would match my skin tone?

Q. I have a hair appointment today and this will be my first time getting my hair dyed.
I have a skin tone between warm beige and golden tan. Not sure what to call it, but thats how I'd describe it.
My face shape is oval (if my features play a role in the choosing colour of my hair)

So, what colours will go well with my skin tone? (Base and Highlight is what I'm getting done)

Answer
have you ever heard of people being classified into "seasons"? spring, summer, autumn, winter. To me, you look like a winter, could possibly be an autumn. if you find out what season you are it may help you choose some complimentary colors, this will also help in finding clothes, make-up, and hair color that makes you look your best. i would look up online some examples of celebrities that are "winters" and give yourself some ideas on what tones would compliment you, darker colors look best. just as a rule of thumb try to stay within two shades of your natural color. you look like you have gorgeous skin and could probably pull off a lot more hair colors than a lot of people :) so that's a plus! deep reds, auburn's, even honey tones would look very nice im guessing. but its a personal choice of course!

gray coverage?

mfv

I dye my hair and can never get the hairline gray covered. Can anyone tell me how to cover those stubborn gray hairs?

Answer
You need to "pre-soften" the gray area first. You would use a 20 volume developer and apply it to only the gray area for about 5-10 minutes then rinse. Then you can go ahead and color it. The developer will open your hair cuticle allowing for the color to better penetrate the hair.

Anyone know of a hair color for natural redheads to cover gray that will look natural and not orange?

DNA

I'm mid-40's and a natural redhead, but slowly getting gray at the temple areas. I'd like a natural looking color that will cover the gray. Most hair color companies make hair color for those with brown hair. I've only tried semi-permanent. The best match I found was casting colorspa by L'oreal in a color called amber, though this is getting hard to find in stores. Plus, I'd like somethig with better gray coverage.

Answer
Hello im a hair dresser and i wanna tell you 1rst off stop useing over the counter tints..they contain metal salts and my damage your hair..There is a product called Miss Clariol when you buy this you can mix it with 4oz cream delp to 2 oz of color then to cover your gray you need grey drops to every 0z of color use 10 drops of grey drops this will cover the hard to cover white hair...I should know im 90% Grey and i have the problem as well to cover that nasty grey hair.any other question please IM me ...Oh the store you can get the color in is Sally's Beauty Supplys

Skin tone and hair color?

JB

I would like to color my very slightly gray, dark blonde hair (maybe red or brown?) but am not quite sure how to determine my skin tone. I have light brown eyes. When I was a kid I tanned easily, but now that I'm older (42) my face seems to have taken on a pink undertone. My veins on the inner arm are a combo of both blue and green. I guess I look good in brown, purple, white, lt blue, but I don't wear/own a lot of color so I'm not sure. I often wear black on top to downplay figure flaws on my top half. I look ok in gold and silver, but I look my best in the warmer silver of white gold. Any thoughts on hair color?

Answer
People's skin color does change somewhat as they get older. But you are probably still Warm or Cool, with yellow or red undertones. Do you look better in cream or stark white? If cream, you are Warm and need to keep some red or gold in your hair. If white, you are Cool and need to use Ash shades. Go by your face, not your arm.

Whatever you decide, stick to within 2-3 shades of your natural color (unless you don't want to look natural!). Good luck!

Senior pictures?

Hearts, St

I'm getting my senior pictures taken in about 2 weeks, but i'm having trouble deciding what to wear. i don't know what types of clothes i should wear or i'm not sure what colors look best on film. i have the palest skin you have ever seen (seriously, i'm not peach, i'm white), reddish-brown hair, and hazel eyes.

if you have any suggestions, please tell me.

Answer
I would say that anything in a saturated blue or green would be nice. It would bring out your eyes and contrast nicely with your hair color. Avoid anything too light, it might to weird things with such light colored skin. Marcia Cross, from Desperate Housewives, for example, usually plays up her red hair and pale skin by wearing emerald.
http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2006/stylechannel/gallery/desperate_housewives/marcia_cross400.jpg

As for style, go with solid colors and avoid anything too trendy. a boat neck tee or a button down always work well. The goal is to be able to look back at the photo in 20 years and not think, "What was I wearing?"

hope this helps.

Is Pureology a good line to use for my color-treated hair?

Jamie

I have been using color depositing shampoo and conditioner made by Loreal Pro. My ends are getting damaged and dry. I want a line that kicks up shine as well as repairs my damage without stripping color. I am looking at Pureology's Super Straight products and leave in conditioner. I want to know if they are worth the money I will pay!

Answer
The color depositing sham/cond from L'Oreal are not that moisturizing, so I understand how your hair could be getting damaged and dry. If you were to use Pureology, which is great line for colored hair because it is sulfate free, then you should use either the Hydrating line, or the Nanoworks line. Both contain protein, therefore repairing, but the Nanoworks is superior in shine and moisture; and VERY costly to the public. If you are looking to spend a little less, then try using Matrix Logics Anti-Age Revitalize sham/cond from system #2 (Dry/Damaged Hair).

LEARNING A NEW HAIR COLOR LINE?

Q. hi, i just started in a new salon where they use a hair color line that i am not familiar with yet. In cosmetology school we used Paul Mitchell hair color. Now i am using L'oreal. I remember see a while back a conversion chart that shows you what the equivalence of each color is in a different color line. Would anyone know where I could find one or give me and hints about how to figure out how to use a new color line. I know that things are pretty much because they both use the European system, but it would be nice to have a conversion chart while i am still getting used to things.

Answer
Get into a L'Oreal color class to learn how to properly formulate and use it. The conversion charts are not exact and it's really best to simply understand the color line. Check out L'oreal's website, they may offer training materials on line. Ask the salon owner how often they provide education for the salon's stylists. Connect with another hairdresser in the salon that knows the product and ask him/her to help you formulate for your clients until you catch on. Finally, the beauty supply in which the salons purchases the color from normally offers color classes or can get you conversion charts/training materials. Find out if you have a rep that visits the salon to restock your color or find out the name of the supplier and call them for support materials.

What should i use/do to keep my natural hair color?

Julie

i have dark dark brunette hair.... but over the past few years it keeps getting lighter, from the sun.
it looks like i got gold- ish, and light brown highlights! -- but my hair underneath is my original color!!!!
** the worst thing is my eye brows are my natural color tooo!

Answer
If your natural hair color is fading use UV Hair Protection Products like Redken. There are conditioners but the sprays that you can apply to your hair to protect it from the sun are better because they stay in your hair unlike the shampoos that you rinse with water. This will also help keep your hair looking healthy because the sun damages not only your skin but also your hair.
This spray just cost $4.99: http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?skuId=2203337&productId=xlsImpprod1460094&navAction=push&navCount=1&categoryId=cat1050001

How to go back to natural hair color?

Molly

My natural color is dirty blonde and I dyed my hair it a darkish brown is there to get the hair dye out... or do I have to redye my hair and if so what is the best way to dye your back to blonde without frying it? Thanks

Answer
Hair is not dyed blonde, it is bleached blonde. Colors are added back as desired. It may be that all you need do is put the bleach product you purchase at the beauty supply store on for less than half the recommended time to lighten the dye. Ask for advice at the beauty supply. Chances are good they will give you some professional tips about how to get back to the natural color you had.

English report about 60's hairstyles?

x3

in my english class im doing a report about 60's hairstyles. i've looked at soo many sites and pictures. The information on the sites are all different. Some say poofy and teased hair was out. and others say that sleek and un-messy hair was in.

I need help! im getting different information and none of its helping. Links would help a lot.

Answer
I think its much like today; a choice of personal style. For example different 60's social groups would have had different styles. Teased may have been in for the party goers where as slicked was more a working people style.

Personally, although im not from the 60's, i would say teased hair with those flicky out bits at the bottom. I'm going on the boat that rocked film (which is set in the 60's) where most of the female characters have that kind of hair. You could of course try looking into 60's TV shows and things like that. ^.^

Late 60's hairstyles for men?

Mike

Hey everyone. Let me start of by saying everytime i say "teens" in this question, I'm refering to 17-21 year old guys. So my senior class theme this year is the 1960s. Me and my buds are going all out since it's our last year of high school. We plan on dressing up like it was 1967-69 (late 60s) we also plan on driving my dads old '68 impala ss... and smoking before school to get the full effect :) (I know... Bad idea but what ever). Anyways, I'm set on the clothes part because I wear that style of clothing anyways. Fitted pants/jeans, loafers, and simple blank tees. I do have one question though. What were hairstyles like in the late 60s for teenage guys. I tried looking it up on google but everything was showing hairstyles for older guys and they were all very conservative. Can someone give me a link that shows a variety of hairstyles for younger guys in the late 60s. Even if it is hairstyles that were seen in the hippie counterculture. Doesn't really matter. Also, what kinds of sunglasses did most teens wear? Aviators? Maybe? Tanks a lot!

Answer
Since you are referring to high school Seniors, the ages are more like 17 and 18. It was very common in that era for a child to start 1st grade at only five years old. There was also a larger segment of the population that did not graduate from high school and of course the draft for those who did not get deferred for college and many in college were in Rotc or the National Guard etc due to the draft. Almost all high schools had dress codes that forbade long hair until the early 70's so most high school guys wore more or less the same styles as in the earlier part of the 60's with the exception that by 69, in most areas, even in the summer, few high school guys were wearing crew cuts, flat tops, or ivy leagues, extremely popular high school and college styles prior to the Beatles coming to the country. Most wore regular haircuts that were taken to the limits of length in every direction, as far as the school's dress code and dad would allow. A typical dress code would state that the hair could not be so long on the sides where it covered or touched any part of the ears and in the front it could not touch the eyebrows; in the back it had to be tapered to the top of the collar. Look in almost any high school yearbook from that era and this is evident. It was a little different in college as there were no dress codes limiting male hair length at most colleges except for guys involved in Rotc or the National Guard. Even so, more college guys held part time jobs during that time since there was generally less financial aid available and it was possible to work oneself through college debt free, in which case guys with long hair would have a very difficult time finding a part time job. Most hippies were not college students, and were older and or were younger and high school drop outs. Due to the draft, most college aged guys who were not in college either were drafted or enlisted in the military to avoid being drafted and placed in a combat arms position; the downside was that instead of serving 18-24 months as a draftee, the service required of volunteers was at least three years. Despite the impression one arrives at from watching movies and shows from the period among teen aged guys from 67-69, a very short style like a crew cut was far more common than long hippy hair in most communities, among high school guys, it was maybe 100 times more common.
http://www.journalofamericanhistory.org/teaching/2004_09/
All high school guys got haircuts in barber shops from 67-69 and if not in a barber shop then it was a haircut from mom or dad.
This chart .....
ttp://oi52.tinypic.com/f10bon.jpg
.....was on the wall of almost every barber shop during that era and these were the haircuts most high school guys could choose from, though the professional, and the flat with fenders(which almost no hs guy in 67-69 wanted) were often not viable choices as the hair at the back and sides was not tapered down to the edge of the hairline as required by most school dress codes. The best way to describe a style to a barber is with a photo. As far as sunglasses, for most high school guys wayfarers were still popular from 67-69 or the style like Dustin Hoffman wore in The Graduate.

Bald Spots from 360 waves?

P-jay

I've been waving about 2 months now and im noticing a couple of bald spots in the back of my head where my crown is and on the top of my head (these were never here until i started waving) but i can't be going bald cause no one in my family is and im only 13.. Tips? Anyone? ...

Answer
HAIR WEAVES & BRAIDS: Some hairstyles, including tight braids and weaves, may increase the risk of developing an irreversible form of scarring hair loss, according to a new study in the Archives of Dermatology.
Seen predominately in African-American women, this type of hair loss, central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia, centers on the vertex (crown) of the scalp and spreads peripherally.
âAny style that causes too much tension and traction on the hair, such as braiding with artificial hair weaved in, can possibly lead to scarring hair loss,â says study author Angela Kyei, MD, a dermatologist at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
In the study, 326 African-American women answered questionnaires about their hair-grooming methods, health status, and other demographic information. Dermatologists then performed a scalp examination to grade hair loss.
Nearly 60% of the women showed signs of advanced central hair loss with scarring. The women were also more likely to have type 2 diabetes and bacterial scalp infections, and sport hair styles associated with traction, including braids and weaves, the study showed.
âBut hair loss is permanent, meaning that we can inject steroids or creams but it won't bring your hair back, so itâs very important to seek help with dermatologists early on,â she says.

One example who just got a weave:
"okay , i got it done exactly a week ago . it was ripple deep curls . now , it's A MESS . no curls at ALL . and then i have school tomorrow , how can i fix it and make the curls come back ?"

What's the best hairstyle for a guy who is going bald?

Tommy

I have the worst of this all. I have a pretty big widow's peak and now my crown is starting to thin. It's not really noticeable at the moment but if you look close you can definitely see it. I've always worn my hair kind of shaggy and unkempt, but it's not working so much anymore. What are some good hairstyles for someone like me? I'm 24 and white BTW, with very thin/feathery dark brown hair. Please give me some pictures also if you can.

Answer
In my opinion and this is just my opinion but I think it is better to shave it off completely rather than try to grow it longer and sweep it over crown. Going totally bald can be quite attractive. I work with a guy who uses Rogaine and it has helped him recover some hair. He buys the walmart version which is cheaper thing is you have to use it twice a day every day and if you stop you will lose whatever you gained from it. Best of Luck with whatever you decide.

What is an appropriate hairstyle for a 50 year old? I still have long hair. Any ideas for a new style?

I've been thinking about a new style for quite a while. I've been thinking of shorter hair, but have no ideas. Most women my age have old lady hair, and I don't want that. Thanks.

Answer
my mom just turned 51 and I just recently cut her hair into a bob. It looks really good and it flatters most woman. Also you can get a long bob, medium bob or a short bob.

what is a good hairstyle for a youngish 50 year old woman?

I have naturally dark blonde hair with salon highlights. It's layered right now. Growing out from a wedge (dorothy Hamil) It's still pretty short. I don't know whether to grow it out or keep it short. Maybe color it differently? Hmm...any input would be appreciated.
Thanks ^.^

Answer
Grow it to mid length. I don't agree that short hair makes everyone look younger--I think short hair makes some people look older/unisex/heavier than they really are.
I love dark blonde hair with lighter highlights! (it's what I've got) It has this richness and depth along with a fun brightness to it. I've been trying out a soft wave in my hair. Kinda of old fashioned like, and I've never gotten so many compliments before!

Trendy hairstyle for curly hair?

LouLou

My hair basically looks like my avatar. About 5" past my shoulders, long layers. I've had this style for like 8 years. I'd really like a change but everytime I look online, the styles are very similar to what I have now. My curls are loose though too, more wavy, but coarse. Any ideas or know of any good websites. Thanx!

Answer
I have the exact same hair that you described.
I can't really find any hairstyles that suit me unless I got to a hair salon and they do my hair for me.
Other hairstyles require to blow dry, curl or straighten hair which is to damage for your hair so I just scrunch my hair and let it air dry, when I go out or when its a special occasion THEN I switch it up.

You can do all kinds of hairstyles GIRL!
Get a curling iron or a straightening iron.....you can do spirl curls, you can flip your hair....you can get LOOSE curls.....you can put half your hair up and half your down......SO many!!

GOOD LUCK<3

what is a good hairstyle that will let me keep my LONG hair but give it style? ( young teen) something trendy.

My hair is thick, long, and pretty frizzy. I need a transformation...

Answer
if your hair is frizzy, straighten it.
you can get a straightener from walmart, target, online, and any beauty suppy shop. (sally's beauty supply is my favorite.)

if your parents will allow you, DYE YOUR HAIR. make it look natural! nothings better than a whole new color to go with your new straightened hair! if not, look into streaks, highlights, and maybe just a little color. (as in blue, green, ect.)

if your hair is thick, and your not happy with it, go to the salon, ask for just a quick thinning. they'll know what to do, and to make it 'edgy' but 'trendy' get a razor cut. it always looks great, maybe even get some layers? <3

do you have bangs? you can get long bangs, grow them out. you can get side-bangs, (which always look great!) just part it with a come to the side you prefer.

look online for cool pictures of styles you admire, show your parents, you dont wanna come home with something they dont like, they'll just keep bugging you until you fix/change it.

bring preference pictures with you to salons, they'll get a better view of what you want, remember, if they're doing something you dont like to your hair. immediatly say something! dont hold back and wait until the damage is done, i know from experience you'll just be sorry in the end.

stay away from any shampoo's that are greasy and not made for your type of hair. it will result in dandruff, greasy hair, and it will sometimes have a weird smell.

i hope this helped :)

Hair color for cool-toned skin?

Shay

So I've been trying to find a nice dark shade of brown to dye my hair for the past week or so and ashy colors look best on me because my skin is cool-toned. I have very fair skin with pink cheeks and grey blue eyes. What color hair look would look best on me?

Answer
Black ?

Do Natural Toned Hair Colors compliment pale cool toned skin?

Q. I have very fair cool toned skin and contrary to what I believed, I heard cool hair colors will make me look even more cool looking. From another person I heard that caramel/honey based will wash me out. To warm up my skin without making myself look sickly, will Natural tones be the best for me? Thank you.

Answer
I am very pale and I have caramel/honey hair. You wont look sick. I don't even look sick. Try it hun it wont hurt. Now if you were like blonde makeing a dramatic change to black then there might be a problem.
