I need to know how to make my hair pretty and ready to go to school and I have chestnut short curly hair.

Your hair is envy from us stick straight haired girls! If you know how to care for your hair type, you won't have this problem. Melina Kanakaredes is an example who has hair like yours and she's got beautiful wavy hair.
Shampoo. Condition. Towel dry, scrunch with gel like Samy, blow-dry using a diffuser briefly, toussle the hair, finger comb, shake your head & you're good to go. If you don't have a diffuser, use a blow heat dryer on low for 5 mins.
When you wake up, instead of shampooing again, keep a bottled water filled with water/conditioner and spray on your hair. Scrunch, finger comb and you're good to go!
One method to make it look fuller, add body, bouncier, thicker, softer & shinier hair is to set your hair with plastic curlers after you towel dry, you'll end up with uniform balance of curls. Blow dry briefly while curling them in curlers. Take them out, and finger comb to style. One of my guy friends always complains when I don't have my hair down. He claims all girls look prettier that way. Just wondering other's opinions.

I disagree with your friend. I do generally like when girls have their hair down. But I think it depends on the shape of your face, and just how you wear it when you wear it "up". I think wearing your hair down goes very well with a "longer" face. It's easier for girls with a more "round" face, with a "cute" style, to get away with wearing hair up, or short hair (think: like a young Winona Ryder).
But...even for those who can't normally get away with hair up so easily, I think it is really sexy when a girl with long hair has a pony tail that is scrunched (or clipped or whatever) high on the head, like on the crown (and not on the back of the head, near the neck). The pic below gets close to what I'm talking about, but you could even go higher.
