Is it true that a Boston Terrier with a mostly white face could be deaf?
Q. My Boston Terrier has a white face and I think I have noticed that he might have a hearing problem. I have read that Bostons with a lot of white on their face are often deaf. His mother had a white face too. How common is this? The puppy was free, and we don't plan to breed him, we love him and just want him to be healthy.
Answer
If he is deaf he can learn hand signals and he will respond to love and affection.
I guess it is true I have also read that in the past

Deafness in dogs is usually related to pigmentation genes: the merle gene and the piebald gene. Research in some breeds indicates that the presence of white hair in the coat increases the likelihood of deafness. The method of genetic transmission of deafness in dogs is not known. It is thought that deafness in the Boston Terrier is related to the piebald gene. But, it is not the gene itself that causes the deafness, but other traits that are associated with the gene. Some of these other traits include the amount of white on the dog and blue eyes. In Dalmatians, research has shown a definite relationship between retinal pigmentation (eye color), white coat and deafness.
