hair styling for boys, short hair, gel / wax etc.?

ATKay

i have short dark ginger/hazel hair.
ive used gel and wax for ages now and i wanna have a good style that suits me, i want to know what is the best gel / wax out there such as goldwell and pinoline but is there any more ?
The main help i need is how to style my hair basically.

Answer
It would help to know what style you are referring to by "short." I take "short" to mean a crew cut, ivy league(long crew cut), butch cut, brush cut, flat top crew cut, or forward brush cut. If you are wearing one of the short pomp styles-crew cut, ivy league, flat top crew cut- and the hair on the top of the head is correctly graduated in length to form the short pomp front, styling is a simple matter. A butch cut or brush cut are styled the same but can be more difficult to groom as the hair on the top of the head is not graduated in length and can require more wax.
1) Towel dry hair.
2) Barely dip fingertips in jar of wax.
3) Transfer wax on to palms.
4) Smooth palms over hair.
5) Brush hair up off forehead to form short pomp front.
6) For a forward brush cut, brush hair forward rather than back off off forehead.
For a longer style such as a regular taper cut, I don't use wax or gel but just comb it so it air dries or blow dry it and then give a few short quick pumps of a super hold spritz to the hair near the front hairline that might fall on to the forehead.
This answer explains the basic short cuts. The first two links contained therein are quite informative:

Hair product and style for teen (Boys)?

paul

There is a hairstyle where the top of your hair goes either diagnol downwards or sidewards and it is fairly long on the top, the sides and back are short and I was wondering what this hairstyle is and if I should get it done, if so should I just blow dry the top? what kind of brush do I use? should I use a hair product with it as after I have a shower and blow dry my hair it gets fizzy, I have thick brown hair and it is shortish at the moment... what do you think? Thanks for all the help.

Answer
Here are some hair hints:
Everyone likes something a little different for their hair. Whether it's enhancing your hair's natural tendencies, or taking it to the opposite end of the spectrum, the right combination of tools and techniques can help you achieve the healthiest, most natural look.
â¢Curl Up

When you are encouraging your natural curl, it's important to try to enhance your curl's natural shape and direction. This will give you smoother, more defined curls with less frizz. Try Oribe's Curl Definition Creme, a light-hold cream that moisturizes and defines curls, leaving them bouncy and beautiful.
â¢Straighten Out

Getting your hair into a smooth, sleek state can be challenging for some hair types. It's always important to use a thermal protectant when blowdrying or flatironing. Try Kerastase's Thermique Products, which infuse moisture into the hair as heat is applied. To finish and lock in that smooth style, top off with Oribe's Impermeable Anti-Humidity spray. This finishing product will combat the humidity and elements in the air to preserve your look!
â¢Do it UP

Whether it's for a special event or just a girl's night on the town, styling your hair into an updo is always a fun way to spice up your hair! Oribe's styling line has great products for fashion styling. Rough Luxury Wax and the Original Pomade are great options for those with short styles. For a little more glam, try Oribe's 24K Gold Pomade, the Midas Finishing Touch for any coif! Top it off with the Superfine Hairspray from Oribe, which offers medium hold and a delicious smell!

Answer
A good barber can usually design a regular layer or taper cut or one of the short pomp(pompadour) styles-crew cut, ivy league(long crew cut), flat top crew cut- to fully suit almost any teen aged guy's head shape, face and neck shape, frontal hairline and facial features.
regular layer cut:

regular taper cut:

ivy league(long crew cut):

[photo above: guy on the right in the first shell has an ivy league, guy on the left has a short regular taper cut.]
Some barbers describe an ivy league as a crew cut just long enough to be parted and combed to the side, if so desired. An ivy league is usually worn with the hair brushed up off the forehead to form a short pomp front, and can also be worn with the short bangs brushed down on the forehead like a forward brush cut.
crew cut:

[crew cut above illustrates an outlined edge around the ear arches and an edge tapered to the skin at the nape of the neck. His crew cut is about 1.4" at the front hairline; 0.35" at the back of the crown; #1.5 blade around the ear arches and sideburns; #000 blade at the edge of hair growth at the nape of the neck. Guys often imagine a crew cut or ivy league is a lot shorter at the front than it actually is.]
To know the approximate length of a hair in a photo of a particular style: measure the face length in the photo from the center of the front hairline to the tip of the chin; measure the hair in the photo; assume an average eight inch adult male face length; proportionally adjust the lengths of the face and hair in the photo by assuming the length of the face in the photo is eight inches.

Grooming any of the short pomp(pompadour) styles- crew cut, ivy league, flat top crew cut- is basically the same and takes about a minute or two.
1) Towel dry hair.
2) Barely dip fingertips in jar of wax.
3)Transfer wax to palms.
4) Smooth palms over hair.
5)Brush hair off forehead to form short pomp front.
Whichever style you decide on, be sure to take a photo to help describe the desired haircut to the barber. If you need more photos of any of the styles discussed above let me know.
Good Luck!

What boy hair styles hide or look good with cowlicks?

best hair style boys

best hair style boys image

lucas

I am a 16 year old boy with a cowlick on the front left side on my face that I have had forever. I don't like my cowlick but my older sister says that girls will think it's cute, so i'm not sure if i should get a hair style that hides it, or goes with it. I have tried a few hair styles, but they didn't work so well. Here is a pic of my hair http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3696/9011495320_e463d39ec6_m.jpg
What i am looking for is a hair style that is from short to medium and that doesn't make me look emo.
PS: i have an oval or oblong if it helps

Answer
The top of your hair currently looks flat. I think you should grow out the front a bit. Your cowlick would probably work well with a quiff.

1. Shampoo and condition your hair
2. Towel dry until your hair is flexible
3. Blow dry your hair up
4. Take a dime size of wax and rub it between your hands
5. Work the wax throughout your hair
6. pull the front of your hair up and over to the side
7. Use hairspray for extra hold
