What highlights look natural in black hair?
tennis97gi
I am Asian and I have thick, almost black hair. I really like it, but I'm going to Puerto Rico soon so I think that I could pull off some natural highlights for when I get back.
I plan on doing it myself with the help of a parent or friend... so what color do you suggest for my hair? Also, what are my options for highlighting my hair (I've heard of touch on and just going to the salon... what else and which one is best?)
Thanks a ton!
Answer
I would not try it myself @ home, you could mess up your hair and the products at the stores are hard on the hair shaft. You have a natural level of like 2 and THAT is darker then what you are going to see at the stores for the results pics on the box. A salon has developers that are made for the color you have, they can add the colors you pick ( HUGE book) and as long as you stay close to your level you will still have beautiful hair, they can add intensifiers and give it a red or purple tinge ( Really in right now) you can have them do anything because they have items that you as a normal Joe shmo cant get in the stores. I think maybe an auburn or if you like the trendy funky look you could go with maybe a really dark blue in streaks ( not too many) OR you can flip through the book and chose. NOW price in the long run will not be that bad. You will need a highlight with a foil and that can get fun, you can pick more then one color......you can do a design, BUT that has to be done in a salon. You are a level 2, the highest you should go without messing up the hair ( like BAD NEWS) is a 4 or tops a 6, those are the carmel browns. Chi haircolor has a 5rb that I think would add a kick to the color. You could add the red or violet intensifier and get a really spunky funky color. You can get some better help in a salon at a color consultation TRUST ME!!!
