I'm a guy, first of all. So i don't have long hair, and my hair isn't crazy or emo or sums***. My hair is short, and is thick, and dark dark brown, blackish even.
I don't have pictures of myself but this is what the colour is like

I once had tips in my hair and the colour was like the picture i have shown. But that was guess work and i don't wanna mess this one up.
As i explained before, i have bleached my hair, only for a bit, and it turned the colour i wanted it, but only a part of it.
Answer
Since your hair is natural maybe you can use a dye that says it for dark hair. There is dye for dark hair to make it brown. If you bleach it you only have to bleach it for like five ten minutes and then use a toner to take out the red in it. Yes your hair will look red After bleach but then you use a toner to cancel it out and leave it brown.

That was sort of a transitional year, so some of the more upstanding young men probably still dressed as they did in the late 50s; casual belted khaki pants, nice button up shirts (usually solid colored or plaid), and suits and ties for formal occasions, including church, work, and cocktail parties. Hair, a very average short, well kept cut. Glasses were very big, sometimes "cats-eyed" where they flair out to points. Some mention of these things here: http://www.ehow.com/about_5057743_clothing-early-s.html
I think '63 is still a bit early for the hippy culture to come into play, but if it was beginning to appear, you might see men with somewhat shaggier hair and sideburns, and patterned pants (plaid, mostly) and turtle necks. Form-fitting suede jackets, really accenting shoulders.
Common colors at the time, very much like in the 70s, were warm colors like brown, gold, red, orange, yellow, and yellowish-green.
Here's some more pages about 60s men's fashion, though they don't specify early or late 60s, but it might give you some tips. http://vintageclothing.about.com/od/1960s/tp/60s-mens.htm
