My son came home today saying an EMO kid is a Gothic cross-dresser because he was told that by some other kids. He heard it in a song too. Can anyone tell me what EMO means and how they dress? (He said it was in stripes and black) Is this yet another lable for kids?
Thank you.

Answer
Aha, your right it is another label made up by kids. Emo is short for "emotional". Meaning, that they are usually kids who act depressing and dark-ish. The emo style is more related to the punk style then the goth style, even though the emo personality is more related to the goth personality... but not as close. Both girls and boys have dyed black hair, even though it's possible with blonde hair now.
Scene is yet another label made up by kids. Scene is quite similar to emo except scene is kind of more of the fashion aspect of the emo culture, they are outgoing and bubbly instead of lonely and depressing, and also tend to have more bright colors as emo aims towards black.
Your welcome. :) x

What fun activities can I do with the kids that I babysit?

Zoe

I am 14 years old, so I don't have a car and I cant drive any wear. I am looking to be the best babysitter on the block. Any ideas of what I can do? The kids that I babysit for don't like board games.
The people dont have a tv or anything like that!

Answer
It depends on their age.
1-3; make healthy, fun snacks with them. Like ants on a log. (A celery stick with peanut butter & raisins) or grab a bunch of toys and play with them.
4-6; Girl- Bring out some Barbies, or give them a makeover! Maybe even have a scavenger hunt in the backyard! You can make snacks with them too(: Boy- Play with toy cars with them! Have them color a picture or finger paint! (Girls can do this too)
7-9; Ask them what they would like to do. They're now at the age where they are beginning to grow up and will want to decide on their own. You can make some crafts with them, make some snacks, (again) play with dolls (depending on how mature they are) play tag, hide and seek, etc. My sister is 8 and she still loves playing & seek, and painting!
10+; Ask them what they would like to do. Girl- You could give her a makeover, or style her hair. Or you can have a little fashion show with her. Help her pick out cute outfits and design clothes on a sheet of paper. Boy- You could play football or soccer or some sport like that with them outside. Have them engage in outdoor activity. 10 year old boys tend to be very hyper and active. Wouldn't want to keep them in the house!
GOOD LUCK! (:

I'm sure you have all looked at pictures of your parents wearing terribly dated fashion and hair styles. Whether they are like mine and sported cheesy "60s hippy style with bell bottoms and sideburns, wearing polyester leisure suites of the seventies, or horrible acid washed jeans and perms of the '80s. What trends that we are wearing today are going to become "dated" looking? What pictures of you and your current style are your kids going to laugh at?
You guys all had really great answers (although i can't beleive no one mentioned super low rise jeans with a thong sticking out the top ;) ) I cant decide who to pick for best answer so why don't you guys vote on it!

Answer

How do you show your personality through your appearance?

Me8709

How do you show your personality through fashion, hair, makeup, tattoos, piercings, or any other modifications and expressions? How does it effect the way others perceive and treat you?

Answer
Fashion is the perfect way to exhibit your personality and mood as well as being a good way to express yourself. If your personality is dramatic or if you simply like attention then it would be wise to wear loud colors such as a lush red or a rich orange. If you don't want try a softer approach then pastels and neutral colors. As for the style, this could be tough because there are so any different kinds. For example, An east coast understated preppy appearance helps make you look more professional and focused while a drastic attire like "scene" kids or "emo" kinds gives others the feeling that you are rather unkempt and uncaring towards not only others opinions but also your work. I recommend you do some research on what suits you. Try going to the site below to learn more.

Your hair is another way to express yourself. For example, curls or doing something extra to your hair shows how much effort you put into your appearance yet an over the top hairdo could cause others to take you less seriously. Letting your hair down might be considered dull, but it creates a simple, sometimes smart, look.

Depending on the way you dress, people will always judge you on how you look. If you are dressed in a very neat, safe, and conservative manner people will think you to be more educated and perhaps even have more respect for you. If you dress in a gaudy or ostentatious way then others might see you as unique or outlandish. They also might not take you serious if you dress this way.

Wearing too many tattoos and piercings give you a tough or hardened exterior so others might think of you as unapproachable. Wearing too much makeup and they might see you as fake and as though you are trying to hide something; wear a small amount and they would think of you as more natural. Appearance is the first thing that people see and you can shape it however you want.

Personally, I prefer the east coast preppy attire consisting of clothes such as pastels, polos, khakis, argyle vest, sweaters around my neck, ascots, and cardigans. Since I live in Southern California, my attire certainly turns heads because people aren't used to it. They consider me uptight and stuck-up and some have even admitted that they are intimidated by me. It also creates a very professional sense and others look at me as someone who is bound and focused on the future. I have always had this look and I don't think that I would change it. I don't have any tattoos, piercings, or anything else, however, I do complete the outfits with a messenger bag from either Lacoste, Gucci, or Louis Vuitton.
