I've tried just about every possible brand. My hair is curly and very thin. Dark brown but shows considerable amounts of white hair. For the last 2 times, I had my hair done at an expensive Aveda salon, with no results. The color turns red and there is no improvement to my already damaged hair, since I've been using hair coloring for about 10 years.

Take it easy. Try to avoid the color process. Just tie your hair in pony tail for about 1 yr so you can have new growth and cut it. If you really must color try to use vegetable based dyes.

I'm planning to dip dye my hair pink and I have dark brown hair.
I've never dyed my hair and I rarely straighten it or use heat products on it (I have really curly long hair)

Any one know of a good bleach and hair colour product that will be bright on dark brown hair?

I would go to sally's and get the bucket of powder bleach and 40 volume developer. It's cheaper and professionals use it. It will only cost about $20. And it's useful for up to 10 uses.

Can dying your hair black take away your original hair color?

I know bleach would but im not sure about black. I am a brunette if it makes a difference i dont have light hair that will easily be altered. I have nice red high lights and i like my natural color. I only want to go black for a little while. I see those comb in perfect 10 hair color thing and its not suppose to take away your original color. Am i right or wrong? Advise on products? Advise in general?

well, if you use revelon anti-ammonia..its accually only $2.99 at walmart, it will not take away your color. you can always grow it back out, or dye it back. because it doesnt have ammonia it will not fry your hair, neither will it kill your color. it doesnt fade unless you get a redish color. thats the only color that fades and washes out. but it is permanent. if u do not want permanent...you can go into hot topic stores and get a semi or demi- permanent black. easy as that.

Yes, I know Goldwell Elumen is a professional Salon hair color product. But some of us can't afford to go to salon's but you can buy these products online so I thought I'd give it a try. I will also try it on one hair strand before doing it on all of my hair of course.

Problem is though, I can't seem to find a guide on how to color with these colors anywhere. I've only heard that if you mix it with water it gets totally ruined. Anyone who can help this girl with ugly boring hair? The color I was thinking of was their PK@all, the super pink one.

I have prematurely graying hair and have been having it color in a salon for several years. I have been having to get it colored every 3 weeks because my gray shows through in fact it starts to show through in about 10 days. Could this be because the hair color product my stylist is using isn't good or could it be my hair grows that fast? She uses a light brown/dark blonde color. I used to have very dark brown hair so we've lightened it up considerably from my natural shade so that the roots don't show so much. It's getting very expensive to have my hair colored every 3 weeks so my question is, is there a good hair color product that I can apply myself?

ask your stylist to get "grey b gone" it is a new developer that can be used with any color products! only your stylist will be able to get it ! i use it in the salon i work at and it is an amazing products and you should only need to color your hair once every 4 to 6 weeks good luck!

Whatever you're using has probably been overused. Those box colors come with 20 volume and it's way too harsh to keep applying over and over. It opens up the cuticle of the hairshaft and the color won't hold on. Only 10 volume should be used to prevent this as you only want to deposit color.. ....so when you have a regrowth, you should only tint the roots and run it thru the ends for the last 5 min. to freshen it.
My guess is that your hair is now overprocessed and you need to use a protein (CAT by Redken) followed by a good moisturizing cond. I know they have a newer product that has both but I can't remember the name of it. You could call a Redken salon, or a pro supplier (Maly's) , find out what it is, and then find out where you can get it.
I always suggest having color done professionally since they have the knowledge to prevent these problems. But get it conditioned first, and if you absolutly can't go to a pro, maybe try a good beauty college, since they have more knowledge than you do, they have all the products (May not have the redken though), and they are supervised.

edit....I misread your question and thought you wanted a good black to hold. There is no color that will lighten tinted hair. so since it's now tinted you will have to use bleach or a color remover. If you have natural black, and didn't color it, then you could use different reds, or browns, but again it's better to go pro since they would know better.

Hi. I already asked a question about this but I forgot a couple details. Okay..

History of my hair-
When I was younger I always wore my hair natural. I am African-American and partially Native-American so my hair (in it's natural state) is coarse and SUPER THICK. My hair color is black with natural red undertones. My mom managed my hair for me and kept it pretty healthy and wanted to keep my hair natural for as long as possible. Then my mom decided it was time for me to start getting my hair relaxed. I first got it relaxed a little bit after I turned 12. I've been getting it relaxed about every 10 weeks since then. Also, I've never dyed my hair, never used any bleach or peroxide. Nope, nothing. I have went to get bangs cut a couple of times and the person who relaxes my hair cuts off the split ends of my hair every once in awhile.

Now: I'm almost 15 and my hair is slightly past shoulder-length. Right now, I'm trying to grow my hair a little longer. I use a shampoo & conditioner that does not use parabens, silicones, sulfates, alcohol, blah blah blah and it's mineral and plant based. I wash my hair once a week ( I wait 2 weeks after I relax it) and I deep condition my hair and I oil it. And I use this product chi silk infusion which I LOVE. I like my natural hair color. When I part my hair, sometimes you can see the lighter parts of my hair. Now, since I like my natural hair color for the most part and don't want to go through the trouble of my roots or anything, I only want to dye the tips of my hair. I honestly don't care if the ends of my hair turn out super bright or if they're just tinted a different color. I just want it to look a little different. Now here's what I want and don't want.

1. I don't want to have to use bleach or anything that will cause bad damage/breakage to my hair or leave it dry.
2. The dye or whatever has to be safe to use on my hair and I would prefer it to be a natural product.
3. If you EXTREMELY suggest I just leave my hair alone, please tell me.

Also, I'm going to wait until my hair is at the desired length before I do anything. Plus I am looking for great haircare tips and products in general :) Thank you!

First of all, heat & chemicals are hair's worst enemies. The relaxers on your head, already contains formaldehyde causing cancer. If they're dye, they're all chemicals, even Henna which is supposed to be better for you than reg. box dye. It's a good read! Google: Henna for Hair Warnings.

Your hair is the most fragile of all hair types. They snap & break easily. So you need more TLCs than thin hair. No chemicals. No relaxers specially! No heating styling tools. Finger comb is best or use a wide tooth comb. Do what Oprah & Michelle Obama have been, going natural, using plastic curlers to set their hair. Use oil or conditioner to keep them moisturized. Heat & chemicals are your hair's worst enemies.

The hair of many black women is very fragile and studies have demonstrated that normal brushing and combing the hair can result in breakage. Brushing your hair 100-times a day is a no-no for your hair. Only comb and brush your hair to style it. Also avoid rubber bands or other implements that can physically cut into and break the hair shaft.
