A lady once told me that she had red hair for 25 years and i wasn't really exactly sure what she meant by it.
By the way, she still looked pretty young, like in her 30s or early 40s.

40s/50s retro style without looking goth?
Awesome Au
I have black hair, pale skin and all that.
I absolutely love the retro/vintage style.
But I don't want it to come off looking gothic.
Any tips or advice?

Because of your hair colour and skin complexion, you could indeed end up looking a bit goth-like in 40s/50s style clothing... Unless you go for the real, polished and glam 40s/50s look with genuine vintage clothing and accessories (hats, bags, jewellery... the whole nine yards) from that era and full make-up.

It's written by a model specialised in the vintage 1940s look. She seems to live and breathe postwar style. And she doesn't look like a Goth!
To get the clothes and accessories, I'd suggest you turn to a vintage dealer as opposed to thrift stores (unless you know your vintage eras inside out) and repro clothes or vintage style clothes as they all tend to be fairly... goth-like. Dealers are more expensive but it's hard to go wrong with their help. Among the more affordable ones, you'll find one of my favourite for vintage 50s clothing and accessories: http://www.bartonandbarton.com
Hope this helps!
